Also I would just like to say that I bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans today and they are so AMAZING!! I should've bought some weeks ago!

    @FarmWifeGina: You look great!

@lilteacherbee: I never want to wear regular pants ever again! So comfy!

    @DigAPony: Thanks!
@lilteacherbee: I'm going to buy a few pairs next week when I go for my u/s and I can't wait! I used the rubber and trick during my whole last pregnancy (and only wore skirts during my first pregnancy, lol), but it's already getting really old. I think I'm carrying lower than I did last time or something.

@lilteacherbee: When I put mine on... I thought "maternity jeans, where have you been all my life?!" I only bought 1 pair of capris but I'm in love with them. Otherwise, I live in MATERNITY maxi skirts!!

I know some of you guys have already registered, but we set our shower date last night (Sept 7) and I am at a total loss as to what to register for!

There are a ton of basic guides online but I don't know what brands to register for! I'm combing through the Gifts & Registries boards but I thought i'd ask you guys for advice as well It'll be Target and BRU for us

@MrsTiz: I think the lists are helpful, as is just walking the aisles at a baby store. I don't find Target all that helpful for baby stuff though. Maybe it's just the ones around here, but the selection is tiny. Do you have any Buy Buy Baby's near you? I freaking love that store.

I would start by thinking about what gear you want (or don't want) - stroller, car seat, swing and/bouncer, pack n play, play mat. I would also register for:

    Bath Stuff
    -Infant tub
    -Towels/Washcloths
-Various other accessories (we got some bath toys, kneeling mat, spout cover and floating thermometer)

    Feeding Gear
-Bottles - a few small/single packs of bottles you want to try
    -high chair
    -bibs
    -burp cloths
    -boppy/breast friend

    Random Stuff
-Pacifiers (if you intend to use them)
    -Video Monitor
    -Humidifer

    Baby Furniture
    Crib Mattress
    Changing pad
2-3 Changing pad covers (if it's not a plastic pad)
    2-3 crib sheets
    2 Mattress covers
Health kit (with baby nail clippers, hair brush, etc.)
Swaddle blankets (a&a and some that zip)
Home safety stuff (outlet covers, tv strap, etc.)
Clothing - we registered for side snap tees and socks

@MrsCB: Nope, no BBB's here. Our Target sucks as well, but the only 3 stores here that sell baby things are Target, BRU and Wal-Mart so I guess I'll have to see who's got better stuff between Target & Walmart, ick. I wish we had some tech savy family because the stuff I want the most isn't sold in stores, so I won't be getting it.

Silly question - if our mattress is waterproof, do we still need a mattress pad?

Your list is awesome! Thank you!

@MrsTiz: Thanks, I mostly went by my own registry :)...which was based on a bunch of the lists out there. My registries also have a bunch of other random stuff on there that's definitely not necessities. Feel free to check them out, I think you know my full name from pinterest? We're registered at BBB and BRU.

@MrsTiz: Our mattress wasn't waterproof, but we have a waterproof cover for it and then still got the waterproof pads to put on top of the (covered) mattress itself and then under the sheets....That way if there is an accident you just have to remove the sheet and waterproof pad instead of having to wipe down and dry the waterproof mattress (or in our case the covered mattress). Makes changing everything quicker, IMO and also provides some extra protection.

    Okay, group question time!

    Do you have:
    -Any stretch marks?
    -Linea Nigra?
    -Swelling?

I've got stretch marks on my upper thighs/bottom of my butt and my love handles. I knew I would because I had some from puberty. Coco butter isn't helping but my belly is clear so far!

Linea nigra is very faint but I do have one, though it's really low. It doesn't reach my belly button.

Swelling, YES. I've only noticed it in my fingers..I have to take my wedding ring off before bed or i'll wake up because it's so tight. Usually I can put it back on by 8/8:30 but today it isn't even close to going on at 9am, so I think it might be time to just leave them off!

DH finally got to feel Jack kick last night! It was so crazy. He felt him with his hand and then he laid his cheek on where I usually feel him move at and got a kick to the face! It was a strong one and DH's head shot up and he just looked at me so freaked out and yelled "HE KICKED ME! OMG I FELT HIM! HE JUST KICKED MY WHOLE FACE!" hahaha it was adorable. I can't remember where I read to use DH's cheek but it worked!

@MrsTiz: No stretch marks yet--I think it's just a matter of time though. I got them pretty bad in puberty as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they show up sooner or later! I might have the faaaaaintest linea nigra, but nothing super noticeable yet. Like you, the only swelling I've noticed so far has been in my fingers...in the morning. I think I'm getting close to just leaving my rings off too. I've had a couple panicked moments trying to yank them off or jam them on over my knuckle, so I might just get a cheapie stand-in and call it good.

I'm fiiinally starting to feel some legit movements, which is fun! I'm hoping DH can try to feel when he gets home this weekend! I'm also actually starting to look pregnant/have a belly, which is awesome!!! I'm starting to panic a little because I think I'll be needing to up my maternity clothes...and quick!

  15. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsTiz: I probably won't do a registry (as I probably won't be having a shower except one from the girls at work) but I have a wishlist on Amazon that has very similar things as @MrsCB: posted. I'll attach a link in a few minutes. :))

Love that DH felt baby Jack kick!! So fun. I'm still just feeling flutters so hopefully in a few weeks they'll get stronger.

Stretch marks: I have a few on my hips (or lack thereof) from puberty but no new ones... yet. I slather my belly in shea butter - I hope it works! Ha!

    Linea Nigra: Nope! Nothing.

Swelling: Just my fingers but only when it's super hot out so I don't think it's a pregnancy symptom but just a heat related symptom.

@ms.janedoe: YAY for kicks! Did they say if you have an anterior or posterior placenta at your appt? I don't remember if you said. I need to up my maternity clothes too. I live in Target tanks all summer though which I am stocked up on. Just need bottoms (skirts and capris). :))

@MrsTiz: No new stretch marks, swelling or linea nigra yet. My hands always swell a little in the summer when I get hot, so I imagine it'll happen anyways when I spend more time outside. Lately I've just been in air conditioning.

I *think* I might've felt some movements last night. I had been talking to my mom earlier about not feeling him yet and she was talking about how it feels like gas bubbles. Which I knew, but I hadn't thought too much about. I constantly have been stomach issues, so I feel bubbles all the time. I was laying down yesterday afternoon and had this weird feeling like a gas bubble, only kind of curved down the side of my stomach and disappeared. It was kinda tickley.

@ms.janedoe: I need to up my maternity wardrobe too. It's been over 90 here and I kind of panicked about what to wear to work. All my shorts are too short to be work appropriate and the one casual maternity dress I have was in the wash. I also feel like I'm wearing the same maternity shirts over and over. I think I need some crops and some more short sleeve shirts.

No stretch marks here. And the swelling for me seems to be tied to exercise and time spent in the heat outdoors. I do notice a little more of a hairy line where the linea nigra would be. It's a funny development to me.

@MrsTiz: That's so fun that you and your husband experienced the strong kicks together. I also love that you can refer to your baby by name I can't wait to find out the sex of our baby this Friday!

@ms.janedoe: I'm with ya on the increase in maternity clothes. I look down and think, "This still fits just fine" and then I look in the mirror and realize, um...maybe my normal clothes aren't cutting it anymore.

@Ash: An amazon wishlist is a great idea. Thanks for sharing yours!

@MrsCB: Thank you for sharing your registry list as well! And YAY for feeling movements!

@MrsTiz: hahaha I love that he kicked his face! We might need to try that one He was kicking like crazy last night but he stopped whenever DH decided he wanted to feel.

I haven't noticed any swelling or stretch marks, yet. I'm waiting for it though. I have a long scar from a childhood surgery basically exactly where the linea negra would be. I should ask the doctor what I should expect to happen there.

  19. FarmWifeGina

Ha! I'm stretch mark city, butt, thighs, boobs, upper arms, belly, you name it. Puberty, pregnancy, rapid weight gain, rapid weight loss, it's not pretty. So I have no idea if I have new ones or not. Probably not since I've been about as stretched out as I can be.
Haven't really noticed any swelling, not more than usual for me, if I don't keep up on my water intake.
@MrsTiz: That's so cute! I'm going to have to try the cheek thing with Farmer Man. Baha, Jack's already beating up on his old man, lol.

Is it weird that I hope Cricket winds up being twins at my u/s next week? I honestly don't think it will happen, but I can dream. Yep, I'm weird.

  20. MrsTiz

@lilteacherbee: I get him moving the most/hardest if I lay on the couch flat on my back with my feet flat on the couch so my knees are bent, give it a try!

@FarmWifeGina: not weird at all! I would LOVE twins for my first pregnancy. I made them double check at all the early ultrasounds. One pregnancy and two babies? Sounds like a dream to me! Get it all over in one swing

    pomelo / 5132 posts

@MrsTiz: I totally forgot Jack was your boy name too! Love it. I hope DH can feel the movement soon.

No stretch marks yet *fingers crossed*. My mom didn't have any, so I hope I won't either. I've been using Clarins Huile Tonic and Mineral oil (alternating days for the most part), which is what my mom used because some model did it and it worked.

I can kind of see a linea nigra--it's funny! It only goes up to my belly button.

    No swelling yet either!

@FarmWifeGina: We have our first ultrasound this afternoon....I secretly hope it's twins too! lol. I would also die. but be reaaaaaaaaallly excited.

I haven’t noticed any stretch marks yet. I’m hoping the rumors are true, that they are genetic, because my mom never got any & she stretched to accommodate HUGE babies!
No linea nigra either. But my poor belly has a lot of extra peach fuzz (to put it nicely) all over it. Annoying. I’m determined to get a little sun on my belly at the pool this weekend. I’m not much for tanning, but the pale skin isn’t helping hide anything! Plus, my vit D is low – so I’m using it as a health excuse!
As for maternity clothes… I’m trying desperately not to get annoyed at wearing the same thing every day. I live in max skirts (maternity from the gap & a few non maternity I already owned) paired with old navy tank tops and short sleeve cardigans. I have one pair of maternity jeans (GAP) and a couple maternity tops. It’s boring, but it works. I figure I see the same people at my office every day & I don’t really have anyone to impress here 

For all of the ladies feeling kicks… have you seen movement from the outside yet? I’ve had a couple huge kicks that make my belly jump. It’s crazy & makes me realize how amazing it will be when you can actually see movement clearly in few months. Before I was pregnant I thought it would creep me out to feel something moving inside me, but it’s been the best part of pregnancy so far. Exciting!

@MrsTiz: No stretch marks so far, no linea negra, no swelling! That being said I have a zillion old stretch marks on my hips from puberty, but they're definitely faded out to silver by now. I'm hoping to avoid 'em on my stomach and boobs, but it is what it is.

I'm feeling more and more wiggles on the inside but nothing from the outside and my husband can't feel anything -- I think I'll be delayed with the anterior placenta so not holding my breath.

  26. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@MrsTiz: No new stretch marks (I have some from DS that I didn't get until 40+ weeks!), no linea negra, and no swelling either.

Still no movement. My midwife said yesterday that between my anterior placenta and babies transverse position she doesn't expect me to feel anything until she moves. Least she gave me a heads up on that

Anyone else know what position their baby is chilling out in? Her head is on the right and rump is on the left near the placenta (anterior and to the left).

@anbanan15: at my ultrasound last week he was feet down with his head towards my left side. He's really really low

  28. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@anbanan15: They told me Monday he's head down. And I think he likes to lay his head on the placenta (posterior) like it's a pillow, lol.

    @MrsCB: haha love it!

With DS I don't remember them making a big deal about his position. He was mostly head down I know that.

  30. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@anbanan15: No idea on position. They can move around so much at this stage yet that I guess I don't really expect them to stay in one position yet either.

@MrsTiz: No stretch marks yet. I've been using a ton of Mustela double action and the Burt's Bee's Mama Bee creams. That is so exciting that your DH felt Jack kicking!!

Like @ms.janedoe: I have the faintest linea nigera but it is super low and you have to look for it to see it.

    Thankfully, no swelling yet.

@Ash: Love that you are using glass bottles! Me too!

@MrsCB: Sounds like you've been feeling baby but didn't know it!

@sweetooth: I do notice some swelling if I workout outside and also noticed a little more hair under my belly button but wondered if it was my imagination and it was really there all along?!

@FarmWifeGina: Twins?! Why not? I have a feeling you would be an awesome mama to twins!

@sarah.clarisse: I felt movement from the outside once and DH felt it once but that's it. I swear everytime I put my hand on my stomach he/she stops moving!

@anbanan15: No idea how Baby M is laying but we will find out on the 8th!

  32. anbanan15

My mom and I did some serious damage in the shopping department (clothing). I'm so excited! I was so proud/thrilled by our girly finds then DH burst my bubble by saying he doesn't like those one piece things and that they looked like old lady PJ's! Ugh! Babies wear sleep n plays!

I did find the most adorable little sweater caplet. I'm so in love with it...it is white with silver threads and has 4 buttons at the top and a little hood!

Is anyone signed up for any birth/baby classes? We decided on Bradley Method classes and we start next week! Besides learning a ton (of course) I’m also really excited to hopefully meet other mama’s-to-be in my area.

  34. mrsmacandcheese

    blogger / clementine / 985 posts

@anbanan15: Ours was breech at the ultrasound!
@sarah.clarisse: I took a breastfeeding workshop last week or the week before but it seemed geared more to lactation consultants and nurses. Still learned a bit. I put my name in for prenatal classes too but I think they need a few more people to sign up.

@sarah.clarisse: Nope, but I just wanted to give you a big whoot, whoot for Bradley classes! I hear they're really good! Actually someday, hopefully in the next year or so, I'll be a certified childbirth educator and be hosting my own classes (not Bradley, but similar).
I am going to be reading some books, 'Birthing From Within' in particular, and am still considering doing the home course for HypnoBabies. Also, just focusing and meditating and working through some birth baggage in my mind, to try and prepare myself for it again.

@sarah.clarisse: we wanted to do Bradley, but couldn't afford the classes here ($250, no sliding scale) which is a bummer. I've been reading about pregnancy and labor for years, though, and my husband is reading a lot as well (everyone, make your husbands read The Birth Partner!). Hope you enjoy the classes!

We bought a crib and glider today! Very exciting.
