@Mrs.J: @Mrs. Pink: I was 3 weeks early, I wonder if that has anything to do with when oursnwill be born?
New unexpected update, DH and I can actually see the baby kicking now from the outside! Its so strange!

@Mrs. Pink: How fitting as Mrs. Pink I just added you and your LO to the gender thread.
Looks like we are almost even for boys (9) and girls (8) with 4 on team green and I think a few still to find out!!
@MrsTiz: They say that you follow a similar pattern as your mom for things like when you go into labor and stretch marks. For this reason my mom was convinced I would deliver early as she did with her first 2 (2.5 w and 3 w). However, I was the third and last child and 8 days late and DS followed a similar pattern as myself as he was born 9 days later after being induced on 8 days past due. Therefore I don't believe this lol. BTW how cool you can see the kicks! Still no movement here....

@MrsTiz: @anbanan15: Sorry, I disagree- stretch marks are hereditary, but you labor like your sisters, not your mother. Because Ina May said so, lol. And a few other midwives I've known/read. Which has been true in my family. My sisters and I have all (those of us who have babies, anyways) had far longer labors with our first babies than our mom did, with similar gestations (all at least 41 weeks, my mom had her first 3 days before her EDD).

@Mrs. J: my mom said I was born right about the same time as the doc said, within maybe a few days... I wouldn't be considered early or late-- in fact all of us (5) were born within that small window of "on timeish" accept for my middle brother who was born on the exact day.
My younger sister (she'll be 12 this year) insists I have the baby on her birthday, which is 11/10 so we'll see

@FarmWifeGina: butting in, but I sure as heck hope I don't labor like my mother did with her first... she was in labor for 36 hours start to finish... no drugs either... I'm pretty sure she is super woman! I don't have an older sister, so I can't say for sure if that will be true for me... but if I had to pick anyone's labor, my MIL labored less then 4 hours with all of her boys... and with one, she didn't feel a single darn contraction (no drugs)-- they literally had to feel her stomach to tell her when to push!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@Mrs. Pink: my sister doesn't have any kids yet but if I got to pick someone's labor to have, a girl I went to HS with had a baby this week after having contractions from 6pm to 9pm and baby was out after 2 pushes. Her very first contraction to birth was only 3 hours, lucky! She almost had her in the car haha

@Mrs. Pink: one of my due dates (long story ugh) is one of my best friends' birthday (11/20). I go by "my" due date based on ovulation (11/17) because the ultrasounds say 11/13 but the doctors won't change it. They say the earliest one at 6 weeks was correct, but he's been consistently measuring a week ahead since 8 weeks.
I was 3 days late and my mom ended up having a c-section because of complications. My only sister doesn't have kids yet, so I have no idea when little boy will be coming.

@Mrs. Pink: Oh, how I WISH I had my mother's labors- out of 10 babies, her longest labors were something like 9 and 12 labors, she averaged something like 6 hours. I'm hoping for 10ish hours this time, instead of 24+ hours like my previous labors- on the short side, but long enough to know I'm in labor and for the midwife to get here, lol.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@FarmWifeGina: no sisters to compare but I wish I labored like my mom. VERY VERY short labors for each of us. My brother was 1 push and she was only in the hospital a few minutes before he was born. I was the longest (which was still quick) becaus EI was transverse and the doctor had to manually turn me (stuck his hands in there). I flipped back to transverse and was delivered with the cord around my neck to an intern that didn't know what to do. My mom was completely naked and the doctor came in just then and ripped me out of the interns hands (he had stepped out because he didn't believe she went fast).
My midwife said most first time mom's go late and has 1-2 hour labors.

@anbanan15: Yep, on average, FTMs go to 41 weeks, 1 day, if left alone.
I think my mom must have had pretty easy labors (or I am a weenie and she has a much higher pain tolerance than I do) because even though her labors were all on the short end of the spectrum (shorter labors can often be more intense than longer ones), she said she never once really felt like she wanted drugs. Ummmmm, yeah, I haven't had drugs with my births either, but there was a point where I sure as heck wanted some!

I hope I don't labour like my sister! She was at it for two days and ended up with a lot of blood loss, after going nearly two weeks overdue. My mom had both of us early, and I came out so fast that she wasn't even fully dilated. I kinda hope I have an all-new labour/delivery that isn't like either of theirs!

I don't have siblings so I can't compare any labors. My mom labored for 6hrs with me. Hoping for the same!
I'm reading the mongan method hypnobirthing book and I'm absolutely addicted! I loooooooove it!
And... Baby is getting way more active! I love it!

Hi everyone! I'm catching up on all of the threads but wanted to say hello! I made it to the Land of Nod store in Chicago last week and it was magical. I walked out without purchasing anything (miracle!). But I was so happy to see so much of it in person.
The trip was to visit family and friends, and it gave us the chance to share some of the new in person. Something we hadn't done at all - most of the sharing has been over the phone.
One interesting thing, I found myself feeling the eyes of many strangers as I walked through the airport. I never really think I look that pregnant, but my husband had to remind me that I really do look pregnant now.
pear / 1571 posts
@sweetooth: Haha! Glad you had a great trip! And I totally rest my hands on my belly in an uber preggo way just so I actually look pregnant in public, instead of just fat, lol.
Question for everyone: what kind of supplements and vitamins are we all taking? I take several big handfuls of them a day, some for prenatal/pregnancy, some for general health, and some for help with my IGT/low milk supply issues. So far, it's a regular prenatal, DHA, vitamin D, evening primrose oil, alfalfa, nettles, RRL, myo-inositol, and progesterone cream to boot. In the third trimester, I'll start taking a few more, mostly for milk production. Anyways, please tell me I'm not the only one that swallows pills like a camel swallows water, lol.

@Ash: I've never read it, but I hear people rave! Thanks for the reminder though- I need to be checking into the HypnoBabies stuff right about now. Can't believe we're already preparing for the birth part of this thing!

@FarmWifeGina: I freakin love the book. Can't wait to get further into it! As for vitamins, I take a prenatal, nordic naturals dha and acidophilus. Not too many here. Well, I take my unisom and b6 too -tried to skip it last night and I've been nauseous all day so it looks like I'll be back on it tonight. *sigh*

@FarmWifeGina: I feel like a slacker now... I literally take my one prenatal and then 2 gummy calciums... I need to ask my doc what else I should be taking-- they didn't mention anything else!
I hope I don't need any more progesterone... I finally got off the shots!
I'm curious on the milk supply supplements though... we don't know if I'll have issues, so I wonder if those would help prevent?
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@Ash: You only have a few more days until your appointment!!!!!
I have an ultrasound tomorrow morning. It's a "growth scan" to check the baby's size because they think he's a giant. Ya know, if they'd just listen to me about the dates.... Haha. Not complaining though, between that and the antibody issue, I get another ultrasound. I'm still a nervous nancy, but I'm glad DH gets to go because he missed the anatomy scan. Maybe I'll get some cute pics to share

@Mrs. Pink: Nah, you're probably fine. I just take this stuff because I know it's good for me and pregnancy. Alfalfa and nettles are good for milk supply, as well as rich in iron, etc. And I've already started on milk-making supplements because I know my history with low supply due to Insufficient Glandular Tissue and I'm trying positively everything I know to attempt a decent supply this time.

I take prenatal gummies, fiber gummies, metformin and colace every day. I'm not so big into supplements.

@lilteacherbee: Eek! I know! I am sooooooo freakin excited! I can't contain myself! & I'm excited to see Nathan-let us know how it goes.

@Ash: I did :D. I think I felt him from the outside over the weekend! I had my hand right up against my lower uterus and I felt this little pop/thump, only with my hand.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@FarmWifeGina: what are you going to take for milk supply? I'd rather get a jump on it because I have to go back to work really early and am expecting some latching issues so I have zero time to build up a stash and it freaks me out!
I feel like a slacker too! I take a two part prenatal everyday so just 2 pills for me.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lilteacherbee: lol @ your giant baby. I can't believe they won't use your date based off size rather than when they assume you got pregnant. If mine did it that way I would be due next month!
Sorry for a dozen comments I'm on my phone lol

@Ash: I bet!! I'm excited and I just had one 4 weeks ago. I bet you're about to explode!
DH saw him move last night!! I'm jealous because he's been so low that I literally cannot see it because the bump is in the way! He thought it was cool, after he got over the "omg that's so weird" moment haha.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: exactly! They can't use LMP because my cycles are so long, so they go by the very first ultrasound at 6 weeks when he was the size of a poppy seed. A tiny movement by the ultrasound tech could change it by days! Each ultrasound since then (8w, 9w, 12w, and 17w) has been consistent with the 11/13 due date, but they are stubborn and won't change it from 11/20!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lilteacherbee: hahah omg that sounds like our first visual movement. DH freaked and I was yelling "I can't see it! I can't see it lift it up!" He's moved up some though so now I can see flutters but mostly he's below the bump
pear / 1571 posts
@MrsTiz: Ummmmm, lemme think. It's a ton. Some for the last trimester, the last few weeks, and directly after birth. Goat's rue, leptaden, malunggay, blessed thistle, milk thistle, fenugreek, marshmallow root, fennel, brewers yeast. I'll probably play around with a few tinctures and see what happens too. Also, pumping in the third tri (provided you don't have any PTL issues) can give you a jump start too.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@lilteacherbee: I am so ready to explode! I can't believe it's almost here!
I can't wait til we can see the kicks. I am finally feeling them regularly. :D.

@Mrs. Pink: I just realized @sarah.clarisse: is also due November 7th along with you and @Mrs. J:!
It will be interesting to see who goes first on the days there are more than one of us due!! Can't wait to find out!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@FarmWifeGina: I do find myself rubbing my belly more so it helps to define "pregnant" instead of just "too many donuts" As for the vitamins and supplements, I'm only on a prenatal and a Vitamin D supplement. I think I might gag if I had to swallow all of the pills in your hand. My gag reflex got crazy sensitive while we were TTC.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@Mrs. Pink: If you were on progesterone shots, was it an IVF cycle that you got pregnant on? I hope you don't think I'm prying. I only ask because we got pregnant on an injectibles/IUI cycle and I took progesterone suppositories until week 8. I was SO happy when they told me I could stop with the progesterone!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@lilteacherbee: @MrsTiz: I can't believe you have already SEEN the baby move from the outside!
I still haven't felt anything. Trying to stay calm about it - but you guys are getting me so excited about what's to come!
pear / 1571 posts
@Mrs. Pink: @sweetooth: Just wanted to clarify that I'm only using progesterone in an effort to develop some more mammary tissue, no miscarriage or fertility issues.
GOLD / kiwi / 605 posts
@sweetooth: no, we didn't do any IVF or anything... I had really, really, low Progesterone levels- when I was 5 weeks they were less then half of whatever their chart says for that time so it was a high miscarriage risk.
I went on the highest dosage they had-- 2 shots each time, 3x a week. I want to say this was until about 12 weeks? maybe 13. Then it hopped up so they had me on 1 shot 3x a week (I don't know the dosage LOL) for several more weeks, then half a shot for a 3x week after that
It was no fun. My bum had literally WELTS and bruises everywhere. I finally got to quit at almost 20 weeks-- it was like a celebration when they told me I could be done
