@sweetooth: I JUST started to feel movement and only in the early mornings before I get up and move. I'm due about a week before you, so I would think you should start feeling some movement soon
@FarmWifeGina: Prenatals, DHA, vitamin D, B12 and my thyroid meds (amount changes depending on day of the week). In general I don't like to take any "extras" besides what I have to during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Fenugreek and blessed thistle are EVIL in my book. They did help with supply, but gave me a goiter...apparently you can't take them with a thyroid condition (didn't know I had one at the time) as well as with any blood sugar condition (which I don't have).

@FarmWifeGina: Got it - I didn't know that progesterone had so many uses!
@Mrs. Pink: I wasn't sure, I remember you speaking about IUI a long time ago, so I didn't know if you had worked up to IVF or not. That is a long time, and a lot of shots. It's nice to know that you're doing something to help lessen the miscarriage risk though, I'm sure. I bet you had a BIG celebration when you finished with those shots!
@anbanan15: Thanks!

@anbanan15: Yeah, I'm kinda iffy on some of the herbs that are contraindicated for a thyroid condition. I've had mine tested and I guess it's on the low side, but still in the range of normal. So who knows what that means for me. I took all those same herbs before (but not to the same extent as I'll be taking them this time) and I didn't have any problems with them, but I also didn't notice any increase in my supply.

Has anyone started looking into daycares and/or pediatricians?
Also, anyone have baby shower plans yet?
I don't have a daycare or ped. picked out yet, I know the area I want to send LO to daycare in, I just have to pick some out to visit. Shower is Sept 7!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: My work plans are still kinda up in the air, so we haven't settled on a daycare yet. We know my mom will be keeping him 2-3 days a week.
I actually just started asking about pediatricians and I think I may have a couple in mind, but nothing for sure yet.
My shower will be either Sept. 14 or Sept. 21. We won't know for sure for a few more weeks because my sister has to figure out which weekend would be best for her to come home from college.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lilteacherbee: My sister and MIL are going to watch him 4 days a week until he's ~12 weeks and then he'll go to daycare. Is it bad that i'm hoping daycare costs as much as I get paid so I can *have* to stay home? ha!
Since my sister and SIL made a mess out of my bridal shower invites, they voted that I can be in charge of the shower ones.. sooo I think i'm going to order these? :
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: Aww that's adorable!! My sister is pinteresting like crazy. I think the theme is going to be nautical- "ahoy it's a boy!" Haha
Yeah being that DH is a teacher, I don't think I'll ever get to stay home. My mom was (is) a SAHM and she kinda lost herself and even now, I've seen the effects it had on her. I NEVER wanted to stay home because I saw how it made my mom, but now.... Now I see the appeal haha.
Thankfully, she can watch him part time. Depending on where I'm working, I may take him with me and get a 50% discount on childcare. If I get into the school system to teach (more $), I'm thinking about a good home daycare.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lilteacherbee: Oh i'm just joking, we could never afford to stay home off DH's income alone, booo. I would LOVE to while he's little but it'll never happen!
Nautical sounds so cute! My SIL is the decorating committee in this thing so she's doing bowties and mustaches, and they're going to print out all my weekly chalkboard pictures to display, so I guess mine is chalkboard little man?
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: Yeah it'll never happen for us either. Well maybe if DH decided to be a principal or superintendent haha. My parents still own the house I grew up in (on OKI) and my dad has said that if we ever want to live there (rent free, but we'd probably end up doing rent to own or something), we can. Because of my mom and our relationship, I know she'd hold it over my head but that would make it possible for me to stay home... Ahh maybe in the future!
Aww! I know someone who did a mustache baby shower and it turned out really cute!!

@MrsTiz: That is a really adorable invite and goes really well with all your chalkboard pics!
I think my shower will be on Sept 7th as well. I'm not really in the loop on that...
I have looked into daycare. Pretty sure we are going to go with the same at home daycare as a good friend who had a baby in March. The woman has room come January, but I still need to call her and set up an official interview/visit. Hoping it works out and that is an easy thing I can cross off the list!

@MrsTiz: We're not doing daycare - we're having grandparents watch LO on the 2 days I will work. As for a pediatrician... it's funny... at our first midwife appt, they asked us who we wanted and of course I didn't know! I have an idea because I worked at the hospital I'm delivering so I know the peds but I'm still not dead set on one yet.
Love the shower invite idea!!

@MrsTiz: We see a family doctor, instead of a ped, so nope! I was actually on the hunt for a new family practice MD when I got pregnant and I'm really happy with the MD I'm seeing as a backup doctor (in case I need to transfer from home during the birth for some reason), so that's who'll be seeing all my kids from now on. And I'm a SAHM (which, I have no idea if we can afford it or not, but I'm not educated or anything, so we couldn't really afford daycare if I did work outside the home- somehow we make it work), so no, we won't be looking at daycares.

I'm burying my head in the sand when it comes to daycare. The only options here are municipal daycare or in-house providers and I'm iffy on both. I know I have to figure it out... I just don't want to.
We only have GPs here so I *think* my current doctor will become baby's doctor, but I need to find out more about that!

@FarmWifeGina: I was told by a neuro optimologist when I was a teenager that in some point in my life I would develope a thyroid condition but he didn't know if it would be hyper or hypo. Ever since whenever I am sick or feeling off my mom (or myself) had requested for my thyroid to be checked and it has always come back within range. I guess pregnancy was the straw that broke the camels back and I'm really not surprise I have Hashimoto's now. We have honestly just been waiting for the ball to drop over the last 10-15 years. Have you tried eating/drinking fennel, quinoa, adding extra oils (like literally a swig of olive oil daily), asparagus, etc for supply? When I was on TED nursing DS these were my only options and really did help, especially large amounts of quinoa and keeping the fats up with the oils.
@MrsTiz: I think those invite are PERFECT for you!! They remind me SO much of your chalkboard and the style you write your weekly updates in
The pedi we picked for DS was actually the practice I went to as a child so it was an easy pick. Most of the doctors are different now, but I was still very comfortable with them after our meet and greet at their office. DS's primary pedi is actually my old pedi though My mom or DH will continue to watch the kids while I work/school. I have full flexibility of my work schedule so i try and change it around theirs and my mom can flex her's a little. DH is currently working a rotating 13 hr schedule so he is off every few days. With DS's FPIES we are not comfortable with a daycare or even anyone watching him besides my parents and ourselves.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
So now that we are halfway I REALLY need to finalize my decision to eliminate foods DS had FPIES reaction to from my diet. I know I cannot eliminate all the foods he reacted to and only eat the ones I was eating on TED, but I should at least eliminate the ones he had the worst reactions to...I just can't decide how many and when to do this?!? I know dairy took 6 weeks to clear our systems so I am thinking no later than 30 weeks to eliminate things just to make sure they are all out f my system in case I go early. I also plan to keep them out for at least the first 3 months pp. Ugh but I don't want to not eat yummy foods (I hadn't for almost 2 years) and again I can't decide which ones or when?!

We are debating a daycare center that's close to our house, or having a nanny. Or, having a nanny for the first couple months. The nanny would be SO much more convenient (come right to the house, dress the baby, do baby laundry including cloth diapers). But of course more expensive.
pear / 1571 posts
@anbanan15: Wow, that FPIES stuff sounds incredibly overwhelming!!!!! You're a rock star! Seriously.
Fennel is another one on my list. And I've been telling myself that I need to start taking a couple tablespoons of coconut oil a day, but the thought makes me gag. But I never heard about quinoa and asparagus! My problem is that I just plain don't have enough mammary tissue to produce a full supply, so the trick is to grow some more if those glands during pregnancy, but after birth it's about getting what tissue I have to produce at full capacity. I didn't do a ton of supplementing (myself) last time because I didn't know about IGT and I thought the reason I failed with breast feeding the first time was because I was diligent enough, didn't work hard enough for it. Now I know differently.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@FarmWifeGina: I know! The thought of downing oils "just for fun" is so nasty! But it helped so I did it. Good luck trying to increase your mammary tissue! Your a champ for taking all those supplements. That's a hard pill(s) to swollow

Totally behind on this, too. Faaaail.
We're having my shower August 15th... It's a liiittle early, but my mom's sister/my aunt (pretty much her only family member around) leaves on the 16th and we both really want her there! We're just doing an open house/drop-in style shower (as it's a Thursday night), so it should work out great for our group of people! We registered at Amazon and then Target...which I'm not loving, but whatever.
I've slooowly been getting some of the nursery stuff together, which has been fun! I spent last weekend working on pre-washing all of our cloth diaper stuff...which was not as much fun. DH finally felt a legit HARD kick from outside, and we have a hospital tour set up for next Wednesday (they like, "sell out" and it was the only one we could get in on!).
We're working on figuring out plans for once baby comes--we both want me to be home with baby for awhile, but I'm open to seeing if I could negotiate anything with work to work 2 full days a week and be home the rest (or something similar)...I should have that meeting in the next week or two...ugh. Otherwise, all is going well! Still zitty, still peeing a lot, still starving constantly, but overall, pretty damn good!
ETA: Picture fail. Sorry.

@ms.janedoe: Your nursery is looking so good! I love the wall color - so cozy feeling. And the book shelves too. Where did you get your dresser?

@MrsTiz: Super cute baby shower invite - it has your name all over it!
As for me, I've spoken with my good friend about the shower dates. But that's as far as I've gotten. I really should get on top of the whole registry thing.
I've begun thinking about daycare, but I'm hoping I can figure out how to make this whole working from home thing work to my advantage. It was part of the reason I took this job. But I realize if I'm going to go back to work after the three months of leave, I need to figure out how to provide adequate care for the baby, and get quality work done.
@MrsCB: How do you start the process of looking for a nanny? I like the idea of someone coming to our home - since I'm here and I could still be around the baby. I know it's pricey though. I just don't know where to start with that.
And as for pediatricians - I guess I need to start looking. You guys are great Thanks for the nudges and motivation.

@ms.janedoe: Where are your crib linens from?? I don't know what to do for a skirt!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsTiz: We were unable to find an affordable skirt we made that matched so we made one! It was actually really easy and was more what we wanted in the end.
coconut / 8472 posts
@sweetooth: I've been casually looking at care.com. But I'm not really sure how to coordinate this whole process. I feel like if we go with a daycare center we can/should start earlier. Like maybe within the next month or so? But I'm guessing most nannies aren't going to know this far in advance if they'll be free.
The other issue is that we need to find someone we like in our price range. And looking at care.com, the ranges people ask for are HUGE. Some have $10-$15/hour (which we would need to be for a long term nanny) and some are $20-$25! To give some perspective, we'd probably need to pay about $1650/month at the center I like the most. I'd be willing to pay about $2k/month for a nanny, but at $25 an hour that's like $4k/month!!
So we could potentially commit to having a nanny and not be able to find someone, and then we might not be able to get into a center when we need. Decisions, decisions...
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@MrsTiz: Yeeeaaah, about that. I definitely just bought some cheapie Ikea fabric, cut it to length/width, skipped hemming it (as the edges are all hidden behind the crib) and tied it onto the crib springs... Hahahah, such a fail. The crib skirts I looooved were like, 90 bucks or more!!! I don't get it! For sheets I'm just doing basic white, nothing fancy.
@sweetooth: Thanks! I really like how it's comin' along so far! The dresser was a Craigslist find (10 months ago?) that sat in our garage...then we moved...then I was somehow able to convince DH to sand it down, then I had to stain/paint/poly it. Honestly, the entire project sucked and I really wouldn't do it again. Hahahah. It's a cheapie, but I think it'll serve its purpose just fine!
Ooooh, looking for a pediatrician...I supposed that's something I should probably get on. I'll probably just glance over the closest clinic's list and call it good.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@MrsCB: It's a tricky process, for sure. I see your points. Do you think you can reserve a spot at the daycare center, and then if you end up going the nanny route you can take your name off the daycare list without penalty?
@ms.janedoe: Sweet Craigslist find! I like it!

Oh my goodness you guys - I made some baby clothes purchases last week for our little guy, our niece due in August and our god daughter's birthday in a few weeks. First off - it cracks me up how small baby clothes packages are. They fit in the tiny mailbox on our house! I'm so used to adult clothes sitting on our front stoop or larger boxes being delivered. And second - the tiny clothes are so addicting! I melt with each delivery and can't get over the fact that the life growing inside of me will one day fit into these cutie patootie clothes!
Ok - end of my baby, mushy moment Just had to share!

So DS keeps lifting my shirt and saying "baby hiding"! It's so cute. We actually thought he was saying "big heiney" which DH finds harious because he keeps telling me my butt has gotten bigger (nice husband I have), but it is becoming more clear that DS is actually talking about the baby and not my back end.
@sweetooth: haha I know! Super addictive. It's hard to believe they are really that tiny.
When I showed off my little girl finds to DH he asked if I thought she was going to be a giant (mostly NB and 0-3 mo sizes)! I think he forgets how big, but little they really are The last bunch of baby clothing we purchased was for my friend who had a baby wearing micro preemie sizes (baby was full term though) and DH commented how the stuff was super tiny! I think he is now confused haha

I went in for a routine monthly appointment today-- and got a surprise ultrasound! I was kind of excited-- everything seemed to be fine with baby girl but apparently I lost a pound so my OB did an ultrasound just to be on the safe side-- I also found out that the tightening feeling I get is probably dehydration related rather then actual braxton hicks, since it's a little early for those.
Here's a little snapshot of my little one! I added text descriptions because her legs and feet totally looked like boy parts LOL but they confirmed she is still a girl! I took a picture of the picture with my phone so it's not the best LOL
23 weeks today!

In terms of showers, one of mine will be Sept 29 and the other will probably be early October.
Childcare will be my mom 4 days/week and then either my MIL or DH's grandma one day, at least to get me to the end of the school year when I go back in mid Jan.
I just realized Sept 29 is SIL's one year wedding anniversary (on a Sunday), but it was a date that worked for all my aunts and cousins. Do you think that's bad? I guess I could give her the option between the two showers (the other one will have friends rather than family)?
coconut / 8472 posts
@sweetooth: We might be able to reserve a daycare spot and then just lose out on the deposit. I'm really torn right now because I found an extremely affordable daycare near our house. It's not what I would choose if we were going to stay there through pre-school because it's really close to the road and the playground is on the road side. But we plan to move in 2 years so we'll go to a different daycare then. When the difference was going to be like $300/month I figured a nanny might be worth it. But now it's looking more like $800/month if we like that daycare.
In other news - I'm finally feeling regular movement!! For me it feels more like tiny twitches than gas bubbles.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@MrsCB: I think if you've found one close by, and you expect to move in 2 years, and the difference is that much $ - I say go for it. Or at least put a deposit down. And yay for regular baby movements!

I started my prenatal yoga class yesterday evening. I have to tell you, I've been walking regularly, but I haven't engaged many of the muscles that yoga "woke up" yesterday. I'm still feeling it today. I think it's going to be a great class for me - I sit at the computer all day long, it's good to get some deep stretching in, and also know that it will help with the birth of our son.

@Mrs. Pink: YAY for surprise ultrasounds!
@Mrs. J: I think giving your SIL the option between the two showers would probably be the best thing. Her 1 year anniversary is pretty important too.

@sweetooth: right. I figure they probably won't celebrate on the Sunday but who knows......I don't want to make it about me!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Mrs. J: I think giving her the option is a good idea, but depending on how they are and their schedules are, the might not even celebrate on the actual day...I know for us it wasn't possible with DH's schedule, so I really wouldn't have minded a shower on my one year. Good luck!
