I'll have to take a picture of our chair, I really love it. It's not modern looking, but it's SO comfortable. It's from Best Chairs and is what they call a "power recliner", which means it has an attached remote to make it recline, instead of a handle on the side. It was really important to me to have something comfortable and that I could stand up in without having to use the arms for leverage (which I can't do with our Poang). We got it upholstered in this beautiful light blue fabric that we just fell in love with at Buy Buy Baby.

@Ash: We bought a Bonavita crib too, but the Sheffield Collection! And splurged on the matching dresser and hutch....having dropped that much on the furniture has helped me refrain from purchasing too much else.

@FarmWifeGina: Sounds like having her there for the birth so that you don't have to trek to the airport and so she can watch your other kids is more important than having the fourth week. I would probably choose to be safe and have her come in a little early...

So I've been working on organizing the baby's closet and I was looking at our collection of clothes, and I'm not sure what to do with some of the stuff we have. Basically, in 0-3mo we have a lot of short sleeve onesies/bodysuits that have no matching pants or sweaters/sweatshirts to go with them. I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking, other than they were cute and gender neutral.

Should I just buy a bunch of sweaters/sweaters and pants to match them? Most of the sweatshirts I see that I like tend to be hoodies, and I'm not sure if that's silly with a little baby.

Also, how many outfits are you guys trying to have per size? I have about 10 newborn onesies and a couple newborn outfits, which I imagine will get us through the first 2-4 weeks. After that we have some 0-3 month sleep n plays, but I was thinking at that point we might want to start doing more outfits than just pajamas all day long. Is 15-20 good or way too much?

ETA: I assume I can't layer onesies and put a long sleeve white one under a patterned one, right?

@anbanan15: Thanks! I haven't started looking yet but I'm thinking I need to get on the ball!

@NeekieRose: I love the look of the matching pieces but I really want to get a rocker/glider and would rather put the money towards that. P.S. The Sheffield is super cute!! What color did you get?

@FarmWifeGina: I'd have her there early... especially with Cricket being baby #3.

@MrsCB: Could you use the onesies as undershirts? We've bought a ton of white carter's onesies to wear underneath for the winter months.

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@Ash: We got the distressed wheat color. We really liked the country feel to the set. I am not sure what we are going to do about a glider. We already have a rocking chair that was used for DH....and I was the one who pushed for keeping the rocker when he thought it was useless. So now I when I say I want a glider he points out that we already have a rocking chair. The good news is the rocker matches the crib set! I will probably just start out with that and see how it works out. If I need a glider, there is always our anniversary at the beginning of Dec and Christmas!

@MrsCB: I haven't bought too much clothing, but I did get a number of onesies at the the consignment sale the other week and I guess my thought was with it being winter we will spend a lot of time inside, so I'm not too concerned about her being too cold. I figure she will wear a lot of short sleeve onesies and be wrapped in blankets? But this could be me being naive!

@Ash: Yeah, I have no idea! My mom ranged from 3 days early to 42+ weeks (her 9th), and her last baby was 40+5. I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the cheapest rates around my EDD and hope for the best. If worse comes to worse and I go before then, Tractor Girl can go stay at the neighbor lady and one of my friends that's planning to here for the birth can be Deere Boy's "person", since I'm hoping he'll want to be present.

@MrsCB: Oh my, I have no idea. I'm dreading pulling my boxes of newborn clothing down from the attic. But I'm a firm believer in sleepers all day, every day (at home, anyways), so I'll have a pile of those washed and ready to go. They're pretty much the only way I feel sure that my babies are warm and there's no cold air seeping in the cracks between socks and pants and so on.

@FarmWifeGina: Could you split cab fare or have DH pick her up if LO arrives early?

@MrsCB: I also preferred sleepers or one piece outfits at that age. Easier to deal with. I was never really a fan using a lot of onesies and depending on the brand/fit they didn't always work over CD's.

  10. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@anbanan15: Probably not a cab--I'm not even sure you get a cab to come out this far--but now that I've been thinking about it, having DH pack up the older kids and heading off for half a day wouldn't be half bad. I don't know how much time he'll be able to take off since they'll still be working on getting some crops in before it snows (unless it snows before then- squee!), but I'm sure he could take a day off for that.

@FarmWifeGina: yea I figured it would be more end of season for him so that might be more doable? I would hate to have you drive all that way just after delivering, but I understand wanting to maximize her time there and help as much as possible.

Just wanted to give a quick update...

On days I work, I'm up at 0450, drive 70 minutes to be at work by 0700... and then you never know what the day will bring. Long story short, yesterday was a busy morning, I didn't feel baby move so I called down to ob (where I work 25-50% of the time) to see if they'd bring the doppler down... they did and 2 nurses couldn't find heart tones... so (because I'm 90 minutes away from my midwife's office), they called their on-call doc and got me in for an ultrasound. BABY IS GREAT!! It was just being a little turkey - maybe because I was busy and didn't feel the kicks, I don't know! They did another ultrasound similar to the 20 week - very detailed! And we got more pics too. My coworker seemed to think she saw the goods on the pics so now I'm afraid to look at them!!

  21. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@sweetooth: I added my morning times/drive into the story because it's always go go go and it doesn't give me time to sit and feel baby moving. But yes, the drive really wears on me. I don't know how I'll do it after baby gets here.
And I am totally hiding the pics! DH made the trek down when he heard what was going on and made it to the u/s just in time - but I left them in his truck when he dropped me off at my car... I told him not to sneak off and peek at the pics!!

@Ash: Awww yay!! They do scare us sometimes, don't they?! I had a day where I didn't feel kicks on Tuesday. I was a nervous wreck, but used the doppler and he was fine (I even heard him kick, but couldn't FEEL them). Of course, yesterday he was jumping around like crazy again! I even felt hiccups yesterday, so I think he was trying to make it up to mommy for freaking her out

@Ash: Dude, long commutes blow balls. We moved in March, and initially my drive was about a half hour--not bad at all. Then they added road construction...and then some more road construction...and it's not scheduled to be done for another like, (I shit you not) 2 years. Now my drive with NO traffic is about 50 minutes and WITH traffic/weather/accidents/people going up north on Fridays it can be an hour and fifteen minutes. Lame. I feel for you.

@FarmWifeGina: I read your update on the Appointment thread...bummer there wasn't a scan! Also SO freaking frustrating when they run behind. Blah. I usually go in, wait for about 15 minutes, then the nurse brings me in, then I wait for the doctor for another 15-20 minutes, then the doctor is in there for 2-3 minutes. Seriously. I've timed it. A half hour (or more) of waiting for 2 minutes of doctor-time.

  24. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@lilteacherbee: If I didn't work a 12hr day, I would've just waited but if something had been wrong and I waited, I'd have felt so guilty (especially since I work at a hospital)! After I got home (left work after the u/s), baby was kicking up a storm... saying "I'm alright, mama!!" Love that you felt hiccups!! Eeeeee!

@ms.janedoe: The commute is the reason I quit working there 2 years ago... and then I went back cuz I loved the job. *sigh* But with the getting up to pee + not always falling right back to sleep + dh setting his alarm for 0320, I am.exhausted! Constructions would only add to the frustration. Grrrrrrrr! And years of it on top of everything... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Totally feel for you too!! I can't imagine waking up any earlier to drive in for 12 hours of work!

  25. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@Ash: Oy, scary! But golly- my husband isn't the only one getting up freaking early???? Although, I must admit- I sleep better when I have the whole bed to myself.
@ms.janedoe: Oh, a 2 minute appointment would big the crap out if me! The good thing with my doctor is that we seem to connect well. My education into pregnancy and birth leads me to ask more technical questions and she never shies away from answering on the same level, if that makes any sense, and it feels like we cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

  26. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@FarmWifeGina: Of course he's not the only one!! That's a farmer for ya!! And yes, so do I but I'd never tell him that lol!

    pear / 1571 posts

@Ash: Baha, I was being sarcastic. And DH knows I sleep better when I'm alone our full-size bed, but he also knows I can't stand to go to bed without him.

I should add to my appointment "woes" that I had a couple of good things happen yesterday too. Besides my doctor finding out I'm a doula, I got the best parking space EVER at Target--2 spaces from the entrance, but right next to a cart drop off--and I also found out that I pulled another buck tag in this year's hunting lottery- WHOOT! Cricket may not come out until I've taken my trophy!

@Ash: Aww! Yay for extra pleasant ultrasounds It's hard to feel movement sometimes when you are keeping so busy! I had a similar experience at one point with DS where I wasn't able to feel movement. I went in for monitoring and all was well, DS was just hiding out somewhere in there

I will say that with DS and even with my untrained eye it was VERY obvious from the second the u/s machine was turned on that he was a boy, so if there is a possibility that the goods are on one of those pics and you really don't want to know you may not want to look (TBH I wouldn't be able NOT to look lol).

@ms.janedoe: @FarmWifeGina: Ugh long waits and short appointments blow! DS had a GI appointment Monday. The doctor is 1hr 15min away without traffic. His appointment was at 12:50, we didn't get called back to see the doctor until 1:45 and we were in the car headed home by 1:50. I literally drove over 2.5 hours for a 5 min appointment and an hour waiting room wait. Oh and the stuff the guy said/did during the appointment he could have done via phone or email. We get to do it again in 3 months too! Super haha

@anbanan15: I want to look at the pics just to see our sweet baby... I think there are 18 pics... but I'm afraid I'll be looking too closely!!!

  32. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: Ahhh you should have one of your friends remove the questionable ones! Then you can at least look at the rest. 18 pics is a lot!!

ETA: Would your DH know what he is looking at? Mine wouldn't until I pointed it out so....would it be possible for him to remove the ones that aren't just a profile/head shot? You should get to see baby at least once with all those pics hanging around!

Does anyone else still have morning sickness...like actually getting sick still?

I was at the grocery store this morning and had to run to the front desk to drop off my items and scoop DS up while I ran off to the bathroom to get sick. The women at the desk was on the phone and I was just like "Can I set this here? I'm going to be sick!" and ran away. I've come to accept that I am one of the lucky few that gets to enjoy this symptom throughout their pregnancy! Yay Me!

  34. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@anbanan15: I don't think DH would know what he's looking at... therefore, I don't even think he'd know which ones are "safe" lol!! I probably wouldn't have even thought twice but once my coworker said she "knows" now I'm afraid I will accidentally see what she did. *sigh*
Oh my! My sickness went away about 3 weeks ago... I hope you start feeling better.

  35. anbanan15

@Ash: I think DH would be able to tell which region was the head, but I could be totally wrong there! haha She shouldn't have said anything knowing you were team green!! Now there is this huge "what if" type thing hanging in the air I'm sure.

I think I'm giving up on the clothes issue for now. I went and counted the clothes we have in 0-3 and we have 13 sleepers, 8 long sleeved outfits, and 8 short sleeved patterned onesies that'll match with pants I already have. As tempting as it is to buy more, I think we'll wait until he's here. We'll need to stock up later on 3-6m clothes for daycare, too. I tried doing a mix and match thing like Mrs. Pen did, which was kind of fun. But a little silly for 0-3 probably.

And here's a pic of our rocker (that my dog photo-bombed). It's not the most mod or chic one out there, but it's so incredibly comfortable. And I love the remote and the fact that it goes almost flat.

@MrsCB: I don't really have any matchy matchy stuff (yet). I love little tiny baby hoodies though! I'm planning on putting her in long sleeved onesies and pants, and short sleeved onesies and pants with sweaters/hoodies.

@anbanan15: I hope you start feeling better!

I have to say, closing on a house + pregnancy is a bad combo. I flipped out on a bank teller yesterday, and today is our closing day and the sellers left their garbage and crap all over the lawn. I'm all ragey and I think I'm scaring my husband, haha.

Have you ladies heard of Wittlebee?

It's basically a subscription box for children's clothing (I think it's ~$45/month with shipping). I did it once in the beginning of year for DS and really was not impressed. The shipping was slow (months) the outfits were just okay and I couldn't justify the price. They since changed the way they run their monthly subscriptions though where you get to pick 3 out of the 6 pieces yourself instead of them choosing all 6 and I've heard their turn around time is much faster/better...

Anyway, they sometimes offer mystery boxes where you don't have to be a member. They just ran a girls Kissy Kissy holiday box where for $14.99 (included shipping) you got two pieces plus an additional "extra surprise". I LOVE this little dress for Christmas! It's super soft and so so cute. The sweater zips up the back and is nice and snugly thick. The hat is velour and I'm not sure I would wear it with these pieces, but it is still cute. I never heard of Kissy Kissy before and when I looked it up the pieces were sort of pricey, so for $15 I decided to take a chance to try them out! Glad I did, although I'm not sure I would sign up for the monthly boxes again, but the mystery box is kinda cool! I would love to try some other brands this way like Trish Scully, Kate Quinn Organics and Tea Collection!

@anbanan15: Those are super cute! I heard a lot about Wittlebee on here on the boards, but no one really seemed to be all that impressed with it. The general consensus seemed to be that there would maybe one or two pieces that were "decent" and the other ones were kind of...a waste.

For $45 a month I'd be more likely to just go to Carters or the clearance rack at Target and grab my own stuff. I like to have control.
