Okay CD mamas... Here I am again!! I'm getting ready to place an order. Tell me what you think, please!!

10/12 - Workhorse organic fitteds - size newborn
    4 - Kissluv fitteds - size 0
2 - Lil' Joey AIO - size newborn (just wanna try an AIO)
    3 - Thirsties covers - size newborn
    2 - Thirsties duo wraps - size 1

ETA: The workhorse fitteds newborn size is for preemie - 9lbs. What do you think?

    @Ash: Looks pretty good!

We were mostly pockets so I'm not sure on numbers with the fitted/covers, but that looks like a good starting point overall. We did a few AIO's later on and really liked them, but I don't think I would have liked our entire stash out of them (unless they were all Ragebabes and that isn't going to happen since they are such a HOT item and pricey) just because AIO's tend to take a little longer to dry. I'm wanting to add a few NB AIO's too though! I'm looking at Lil Joey's or similar styles. Can't decide if I should go for the NB Ragababes or not because I can get SO many more for the price if I go with another diaper brand and they are going to be used for a short period

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: Hmmm I might skip the NB size to be honest if they only go up to 9 lbs. The smalls say 9 lbs to 15 lbs. Are these the ones you are looking at because they say 11 lbs for NB: http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/workhorse-organic.html

Just to give you an idea DS was born at 7lbs 7 oz and was 8 lbs at 11 days and 10 lbs 8 oz at 4 weeks. We would have gotten no use out of the NB....I would probably skip the NB size for now and then wait and see how big baby is and add later if you absolutely needed to. I hate to see you order them and your LO never wear them.

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@anbanan15: I just caught the size after watching them for ages... Not sure what I was thinking. I highly doubt we'll have a little baby so I'll probably order the larger size.
    http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/workhorse-organic.html
Okay... now maybe I've lost my mind. It does say 11lbs. Doh!

I'm gonna use BG 4.0s once they fit, so would you think the newborn size would be sufficient afterall?

  5. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: haha it's okay!! I am always checking and rechecking diaper sizes and always second guess what I previously read too Happens to the best of us! I would skip them too, at least for now. It's tempting with their smaller price tag though

  6. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@anbanan15: Maybe I'll get the larger size and get some prefolds to take the place of the newborn size workhorse fitteds.
I've never heard of the brand you speak of. Hmmmm! I don't wanna get too many AIOs but I'd like to give them a whirl.

  7. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: Yes! Prefolds is an excellent alternative because if you end up not needing them as a diaper the make the BEST burp cloths! We got some specifically for that purpose.

Ragababe's are amazing! Their NB size goes to 14 lbs and I *think* they may have some in stock at the moment! They only stock so many of a certain color/size at a date/time announced on FB and certain sizes/colors/prints go FAST. Here is a link to their stores current in stock items page: http://www.shop.ragababe.com/collections/stocking-quick-picks. They are a little pricey though, but we use them for long trips like DS's doctors appointments or when we went to the OBX. A lot of people like them as a "bulletproof" nighttime diaper too, but we had better luck with a BG 4.0 double stuffed with a regular MF insert and a Ragababe insert.

ETA: There are two main styles. The AIO and then an AI2 where the insert can be snapped in/out. The AI2 comes in a snapped and unsnapped rise version but the size ranges are about the same. We have tried both styles and I prefer the AIO, just because we don't reuse the cover with the AI2, but they are both fantastic diapers!

@anbanan15: Oh myyyy, they are pricey! But so tempting!! I'm afraid to get 1 for fear I might like them and want more. I searched them and they get really good reviews!!

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: Umm yes you WILL be hooked. There is a B/S/T group on FB if you would be into used. I will wall it to you. They still go for a good price used. They retain their resale value very well.

@MrsTiz: We took our all day class this weekend and she provided a binder and pen but had told us to bring a blanket, pillow, and exercise ball.

We were actually almost to the class when I freaked out that I had forgotten a notepad or something to take notes on. I felt like an idiot, but then it turned out we didn't even need one.

If the instructor hasn't sent out a list of what to bring, I would email her so that you know for sure.

@Ash: How often do you plan on washing? I think with a max of 18, you may end up still needing to do wash every day. Also, just a warning - I haven't heard great things about lil Joeys AIOs. A lot of reviews say they leak.

@ash: I have 24, if that gives you any guidelines on how many. I did that many based on my friend's advice (she did fitteds/covers until the 4.0s fit).

Also, the doctor's office called, and the midwife is happy with my glucose numbers. My iron is a little low, but not that I have to take anything extra. Huzzah!

  13. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsCB: Well, I'm okay with doing laundry every day since I'll be off but maybe I'll throw in some more of a few. What would you suggest adding it (fitteds or prefolds)? And is there an AIO you would recommend?

@Mrs. J: Thanks! And yay for good numbers! I'm interested in knowing what my iron levels are - my appt is in 2 weeks!

So I ordered two PPB boxy backpacks and they are supposed to come today/tomorrow. I hope it will be easy to decide which one I like the best!

@NeekieRose: I'm just going to skip the blanket today, and if she says tonight that we need one i'll bring it, but you're probably right @anbanan15: we most likely won't get that far tonight.

@Mrs. J: ooh what patterns did you get?

  16. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@Ash: If you want to go for low cost, then get prefolds. If you want to go for most effective/easiest to use, get fitteds. Just out of curiosity - are you getting snaps or snapless? I got snapless and thought maybe I'd add velcro, but I was trying out the snappi this weekend and it seemed pretty convenient.

I looked around for a while for newborn AIOs and I just couldn't decide on any, so I decided to skip them. I think it just varies from baby to baby, how skinny their legs are, how much they pee (since most newborn diapers don't handle much volume) so reviews tend to be all over the place. I loved the Blueberry Simplex newborn AIO in person, only thing is that it has an attached soaker that has to be re-stuffed in the pocket, so it's like a hybrid pocket and AIO. Depending on when you start, BumGenius or Thirsties AIO might work for you. I really wanted most of my newborn diapers to have an umbilical cutout, which those don't have. Kissaluvs newborn AIO gets decent reviews, has an umbilical cut out, and is rated to 15 lbs, so you might want to check that one out :).

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsCB: Thanks! I'm doing the snaps... just wanted it to be as easy as could be for everyone changing diapers (ie, dh!).

So I'm thinking I'll get 8 Kissaluv fitteds...

I'm going to go back and read your recs from an earlier question I had regarding these dipes and I'll hopefully come back with an updated list.

@MrsTiz: I got Afternoon in Amsterdam from PBK and Sunlight in Scandinavia (one of the new ones). The Amsterdam one came today!

  19. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsCB: I think I got it figured out. Phew!!
10 - workhorse gmd fitted with snaps
    10 - workhorse gmd fitted w/o snaps
    4 - kissaluv fitted
    2 - thirsties duo fitted
6 - covers (duo wrap and regular)

    26 diapers and 6 covers...

The class was pretty disapointing. They rushed through it, only showed half of the slides on their slideshow and told us that the class is 4 days but they can do it in 3, then released us early.

It was super awkward, they kept asking people to "share birth plans! ...anyone..!?" wanting people to volunteer info and absolutely no one did so they just sat there all awkward. We'll still go to the other two, but yesterday they went over pregnancy, contractions, labor, and delivery ..in ~2 hours. I don't know what else they're going to show us!

  21. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: Oh no sorry it was less than exciting! We're doing a Saturday class on Sept 21st, I think. (Same day as our shower with 2 hours between the two, but DH really didn't want to go to multiple classes on week nights once school starts...)

Maybe next week they'll talk about what to expect in the hospital after delivery?

  22. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: I'm not sure! They somewhat covered that too, they told us what to bring, what not to bring, what was allowed and who was allowed in the room. We did find out that DH's niece isn't allowed to come though, (huge relief for me, huge burden for everyone else!) our hospital doesn't allow anyone under 16 in the room unless they're the new babies sibling...no photos during labor or birth, only after.

  23. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: I think our hospital does that too, but the age limit is 12. I remember when my cousin was born, I was 12 and got to go, but my little sister didn't. Hmmm that's awesome because that same cousin is a baddddd little hellion now and he'll turn 12 on Christmas...so he'll just miss it! He makes me blood pressure skyrocket, so that makes me happy

@Ash: Looks good! FYI, prepping the GMDs took forever! So many loads of laundry. And I'm still trying to figure out the best drying settings for them.

  25. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: thats my niece too, she's a spoiled little brat and everytime she's around, all attention has to be on her. I told DH I didn't want her to come to the 3D ultrasound we scheduled for the whole family to come because I know the entire time i'll just hear "LOOK EMMA, LOOK IT'S YOUR BABY COUSIN" ..a loud SIL + zero discipline in a small room is my idea of Hell.

  26. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: Yep, sounds like they could be twins. It's going to cause a family feud, but there's no way in hell my little boy will be around him once he's able to repeat and copy others' actions. It's bad. Like he has ZERO respect for adults at all because his parents let him do whatever. I work with 4 year olds who are way more respectful than him and that really pisses me off.

  27. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: She's only 4..does that make me a bad person? Maybe she annoys me so much because her mom annoys me so much? ha! Are your 4 y/os potty trained? Because she's not. Not even close & they act like i'm a biatch because I said LO will be potty trained by 2.5, they just laugh..but seriously, why isn't a 4 y/o potty trained?!

  28. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: Yeahhhh most 4 year olds are potty trained!! I mean my kids will have accidents, but they def aren't wearing diapers or pull ups to school!

No, it's not bad. That's about the age my cousin started to annoy the crap out of me, which sucked because he was "my baby." I babysat him and he was like a little brother to me since his parents live next door to mine. Now he's failed 2 grades and he has a December bday, so he'll be turning 12 in the 4th grade. His parents blame the teachers (GAH that makes my blood boil...) and if I mention school to him, he plugs his ears, rolls his eyes, and says "I hate school. I don't talk about school." His parents give him anything (he got an iPhone at age 10) and he thinks he's allowed to touch anyone else's stuff (I have to hide my ipad which is ridiculous). Since my grandfather died in April, he thinks he's allowed to have anything of his (like his fancy HD flat screen TV that my grandmother STILL WATCHES). He wants to take my grandmothers TV to his house because he "loves electronics."

I could go on for days because I seriously don't understand how someone chooses to simply NOT parent their child!

  29. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: lol his mom would probably LOVE my SIL. I don't think being a parent was what she pictured, she loves to dress her up cute but when it comes to parenting things ..she doesn't do squat. She has MIL or her soon-to-be-ex husband do all the actual parenting things. I've learned a lot about how to be a good parent by watching her do things i'll never do/allow, so -silver lining, right?

  30. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: haha exactly!! I remember saying to him once that my kids won't be spoiled like he is (which he fully acknowledges). A few weeks later, DH was at my parents' house with me and my cousin brought over some RC truck thing and told DH "I bet you won't buy this for your kid because it costs too much money." The look on DH's face was hilarious....I had to pull him away before he went off lol

  32. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@MrsCB: your washing diapers? Are you washing clothes too? I am itching to do something, but I hate to take tags off of things before I know if they'll fit in the right season. I've washed the used stuff I bought though

  33. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@MrsTiz: Yes! I decided to prep diapers (which took SO much washing), and to wash all blankets, sheets, towels, wash cloths, burp cloths, socks, and clothes in newborn and 0-3. So much laundry! I'm glad I did it now because it was actually pretty taxing doing it all.

  34. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsCB: Oh no.... so much to do!!! Have you heard of Rearz diapers? They're on Zulily today - seem to get decent reviews.

@MrsCB: how did you organize your closet/dresser?

  36. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@MrsTiz: I'm so sorry! We were extremely let down by our class too. I was hoping you would find yours to be more beneficial. And the worst part is we paid for the class/time and I don't feel it was worth the cost, kwim? Maybe they will spend the rest of the time on breathing techniques and coping mechanisms? That would be beneficial!

@Ash: @MrsCB: You can prep faster by boiling them instead of multiple washings.

@Ash: @Mrs. J: I heard the same thing about the Lil Joey's. Baby tends to outgrow them by absorbancy before weight limit, but I wonder how long people leave a NB in a diaper? We changed DS at least 1-2 times every hour. He hated being the slightest bit damp and would let us know

  37. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@MrsTiz: Here's what I've got so far. Hopefully this isn't obnoxious with the pictures, I'm home today and figured why not....

So here's our dresser, next to it are bins that hold all the cloth diaper stuff. We're still waiting on a book case from PBK that the bins will go on.

    Top drawers:
Left - baby socks, burp cloths
Right - Pacifiers, paci clips, lotions, teethers, grooming stuff, etc.

    Middle Drawer:
Bibs, Onesies (separated by short sleeve side snap, long sleeve side snap, and long sleeve regular), swaddle blankets, lovies, A&A blankets.

    Bottom Drawer:
Sheets, mattress protector, wash cloths and towels, receiving blankets, heavier blankets.

  38. Ash

@anbanan15: Looks like I better get ordering just so I can get them prepped. I'll have to google (my bff) the boiling instructions!

@MrsCB: Oh my gosh, come to my house!!!!!!! Looks great!!

  40. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

    @MrsTiz: And here's the closets...

Main Closet - In this closet I have a hanging organizer that's not getting used too much yet, then newborn and 0-3 clothes hanging on the top rack, 3-6 and 6-9 on the bottom. Newborn and 0-3 are super organized at the moment by sleepers, onesies, outfits and pants. I decided to hang as much as possible because I don't like digging through drawers for things. Also, it's hard to keep track of what outfits I have now since I'm not as familiar with the clothes, so I like to keep it all where I can see it.

And just for fun, our gear closet. Eventually we'll use this to house gear we're not using at the time. Like the jumperoo, and later the swing will go in there when we're done. Right now, pretty much ALL gear is in there, lol.
