@MrsTiz: I think at this point, unless it's a really sizable amount, I'd put it towards anything you need for the baby - even more diapers. But it never hurts to start the little guy's college fund!

@MrsTiz: Yeah, honestly, unless it's a pretty legit amount of money (totally not trying to undermine ANY monetary gift at all, as hell, I'd take ANYTHING!), I'd probably spend it on last-minute baby stuff. I think it has a lot to do with how you were brought up; our parents never had started a bank account for us and always used monetary gifts towards buying us stuff we needed as we grew up, so I guess that's just the "norm" for me.

I just popped into the local consignment shop for babies and bellies - and I scored some Joe's jeans for less than 1/2 the price they are listed at a Pea in the Pod! I'm so jazzed! I needed this lift. I was starting to get really down on the way I looked in my clothes, and this was just the boost I needed. I think I'm going shopping for some more clothes this weekend. I have a few days in the office coming up and I need to feel confident, not frumpy and uncomfortable. Sure feels good to score these things used though!

I will definitely be paying this forward someday and donating my maternity clothes. I'm so happy that these fit so well and make my butt look good!

Have you guys scored any maternity clothes that make you feel like a million bucks?

    @sweetooth: Nice!!!

Suuuuuper early on in my pregnancy I got a bunch of AWESOME deals on J Brand maternity jeans (like, $10 a pair on eBay)...now that I'm at the point where I need them/fit into them, I'm realizing they're misssserable. They're the "under belly" elastic panels in the side and they are so not comfortable...but I look great in them! I really have no good maternity pants. The super comfortable ones are just hideously ugly, and the super cute ones are sooo uncomfortable. I usually opt for the ugly ones and end up looking ridiculous. Meh.

I absolutely just LOVE the Old Navy ruched-side tanks, I always feel good in those!

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@ms.janedoe: Yes to the Old Navy tanks! I have been loving all of my summer maternity buys. But as we make our way into fall I'm trying to buy a few staples. And yes, the under belly panels are now SUPER uncomfortable on my belly. So it's off to the full panel I go! These Joe's Jeans are full panel and they shape my belly so nicely and feel amazing.

@ms.janedoe: @sweetooth: I actually hated full panel with my first, so I got under the belly this time and like them so much better. The full panel were super uncomfortable and itchy to me, plus you could always see the top of the panel under clothing.

@ Mrs. J - That sucks! Sorry you are feeling bad.

I agree - I've been congested since about 5 weeks and can't really take anything for it. My saline nasal wash has been a life saver!

Sooooo, first time in three pregnancies, and I finally made DH take some decent maternity photos for once. It's WEIRD being in front of the camera instead of behind it, and being the sole subject, but I'm glad we did it.
I'm sharing a few of them here because I'm not Gold and, besides, I'm sharing them on my public business pages anyways (Prairie Mama Birth Journeys on Facebook, if you're curious <----is that against HB rules?).
I'm soooooo not the model pregnant woman with the basketball under her shirt, but that's ok! That's what I tell myself anyways, lol.

Like @anbanan15, I never liked the full panel with my first pregnancy. In addition to itching and the panel showing, I felt like they were always sliding down. I bought 2 pairs of shorts at Motherhood Maternity a couple of months ago that I have lived in this summer, under belly, and other than that have still been wearing my regular pants and skirts. I have a couple of tops and am also wearing non-maternity tees. Luckily I rarely have to wear regular clothes at work (I change into scrubs when I get there) so I've been able to be lazy

@FarmWifeGina: You look beautiful! You look like a model pregnant woman to me!

@FarmWifeGina: Wow! Those are STUNNING. He did an amazing job with lighting! You look so peaceful (and beautiful!)

@lilteacherbee: It went great! Everyone important showed up and we were seriously blown away by how generous everyone was. Most didn't buy off the registry, but they got similar things so i'm calling it a win on that part. My mom and sister did an amazing job on the food, it was all so adorable. I've got to brag on my mom for a second, she is REALLY excited to be a grandma, so she's constantly buying him things (and ignoring me telling her to stop), so she stopped bringing me things and I assumed that meant she listened to me..buut no, she just started this crazy stockpile of diapers. She does the "extreme couponing" stuff, so her big gift to DH and I was a "years supply of dipes and wipes". ....I don't know what to do with all of this! We are so lucky to have her.

@FarmWifeGina: Okay you look like the model pregnant women for sure!

    @shellio: yes! Agree

@MrsTiz: I'm glad your shower went well! And omg so many diapers and wipes!! No suggestions on storage, but it's going to be so nice not to have to worry about buying any for awhile! And the ones you don't use you can sell or donate...they always seem to go fast on my local garage sale type FB pages

  15. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@anbanan15: I took the NB and a case of 1's with me, and a big case of wipes, but both DH and I work for my parents, so I figure when we need diapers i'll just have her bring some to work because she has plenty of room to store them and we don't have any lol! I guess it's true when they say you don't realize how much space you don't have until you have a kid!

@MrsTiz: haha just wait until the kid actually arrives

@MrsTiz: Glad you had a great shower! Nice to not have to worry about running out to get diapers.

@shellio: @anbanan15: Also dislike full panel. I got some shorts that had side panels in them at motherhood maternity that I really like.

    @FarmWifeGina: Beautiful pictures

Anyone else getting a ton of Braxton hicks contractions?

  18. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@sweetooth: I live in maxi skirts and tanks... I hate wearing anything else! I need to get some cardigans or a denim jacket to wear for fall because I'm going to keep living in them!

@FarmWifeGina: Looooooove the pics! You look amazing!!

@MrsTiz: Yay to a successful shower! And look at those dipes!! OMG!!! Your mom and mine are very similar... I get a package in the mail from my mom at least once a week!! I've told her to stop but she won't. It's actually pretty sweet.

  19. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@Maysprout: I've been getting BH since 19 weeks so I don't even pay attention to them anymore, honestly.

  20. Maysprout

    grapefruit / 4800 posts

@Ash: I haven't been able to ignore them. I have to pee really bad whenever they come so they wake me up. Or if I'm walking around I feel like I start waddling and baby feels like she starts pinching me. I know she's not pinching me but however she moves when they come makes things uncomfortable.

  21. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@shellio: @DigAPony: @MrsTiz: @anbanan15: @Maysprout: @Ash: Thanks. It's insane how uncomfortable I was being the sole subject in front of the camera and figuring out how to pose myself and tell DH how to shoot- and he wasn't giving me any feedback at all, lol. But I'm happy with how they turned out.

I'm having some Braxton Hicks, but not all the time. A ton more than I've had with my other pregnancies, but still, not a lot. They're a lot worse when I'm drinking a lot and constantly filling up my bladder.

There's some preschool and kindy teachers here, right? Forgive for not remembering who all you are. @lilteacherbee, right? OMG, please make me feel better! Deere Boy got accepted into our local Head Start program and, on one hand, this is what I wanted because I knew he most likely needed the help (he got some flags for possible developmental delays at the screening), but on the other, I was homeschooled and our homeschooling circles were the type that believed wholeheartedly that the public school system was of the devil and only out to steal children's souls and corrupt them and, needless to say, I am TERRIFIED! The anxiety is killing me, I've already cried once this morning and it's not even 8:00. But at the same time, I want him to have the best chance of a good education that he can and I don't feel equipped to give him that AT ALL and I know that the earlier he gets help in these areas, the better, but, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! I feel backed into a corner. It doesn't help that he'll be getting in the bus at 7:10 in the morning and probably not getting home until after 4 PM and it just feels impossible that he's going to be gone from me for that long. He's only 4, he's just a BABY! Cry, cry, cry...

@FarmWifeGina: those photos are seriously gorgeous!
@MrsTiz: I'm so happy your shower went well! look at all of those diapers!!!! The invites for one of my showers finally went out, so it's fun hearing how excited people are for it.

  23. ShootingStar

@FarmWifeGina: Oh wow, people really believe that stuff?? Take a deep breath. Public schools are not the devil. Nobody wants to corrupt the kids. Elementary school teachers are the type of people who LOVE kids. They dedicate their lives and their careers to educating them. Is there any way you can meet the teacher or see the classroom ahead of time? If not, there should be a parent teacher night the first few weeks of school. And if you can't provide the type of education or special help your son needs, you are absolutely doing the right thing by sending him there.

  24. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@MrsCB: Lol, yes, I KNOW all this, but it's very much my anxiety talking. I mean, seriously, we live in a very small town, with a very small school system, the majority of the teachers are conservative Catholics, it's pretty much the least scary school situation that I could ask for (although that probably sounds pretty scary to some people, lol). But yeah, baggage.

  25. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@MrsTiz: OMG that's amazing!!!! Sooo many diapers!! I'm so glad to hear everything went well! Did you have a good turn out?

@FarmWifeGina: Awwww Mama, I promise he WILL be okay So Head Start is a federal program and many states have local programs as well funded by the state. I teach for the NC "version" of Head Start (We still have Head Start programs, but the state program as well).

If you have any specific questions, let me know! I know most moms are apprehensive and nervous the first week, but 95% of kids are fine! I have 2 kids in my class who are still crying, but they'll get used to it soon. I LOVE my babies and truly care about them and I'm sure your little boy's teachers do too! He will learn so much!! Deep breaths

Gaaaaha, y'all move too fast!!! OK, rewind!

@Mrs. J: That blows if you have a cold... Yuck. Feel better soon!!

@FarmWifeGina: You look freaking fabulous. Seriously. Good luck with school!! I'm sure he'll do/is doing great!!

@MrsTiz: That is a shitton of diapers and wipes!! How awesome (and even better, you don't have to worry about storage!)!

@Maysprout: Yes to the BH... I thought for the longest time that I just...wouldn't have any, but in the last week or two, I've reeeeally started to notice them! I usually get them when I go out for a walk or go up and down the stairs/do a lot of stuff in the house. I usually try to remember to slam some water around then and take it easy. So weird!! It just gets all...tight!

The weekend was pretty low-key...which was great. Sleeping blows, I'm still up at least 3 times a night to pee, and getting comfortable in bed is a joke! Baby girl is moving around, and it's SO weird--it isn't so much "kicks" anymore, but more these big..."move-y" motions! I'm starting to panic a little...I'm still not 100% sure what the plan is for after maternity leave (coming back to work/trying to make it work at home for awhile/etc.), and I don't even know where to start to try to figure it out! Blah.

  27. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@lilteacherbee: Thanks. I'm not too worried about him crying and missing me- the child doesn't have a shy bone in his body. I think I'm just freaking out about handing him over to someone else to teach and care for him so much of the day. I've always dealt with anxiety and general mistrust of other people caring for my children. But I'm sure the teachers are fabulous and will love him. They're coming for a home visit later this afternoon, so I think that will be good.

  28. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@lilteacherbee: We invited ~45/50 people and 20 came, but it didn't feel like no one came and we had fun! I tried to make a list of what we still needed to get..annnd that's when I realized I have no clue what babies need lol! We went and bought a swing, a bassinette, bottles & a changing pad cover last night. I know I need medicine/first aid stuff, but i'm going to figure out what that includes and let my mom do her coupon stuff haha

We got the nursery all done! I still have a mobile to finish making (aka make DH finish) and he's got a changing pad tray to build...but we're calling it done! I don't know what else I'm going to do until LO gets here, I started nesting too early

  29. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@MrsTiz: you can nest for me! I'm feeling behind and just waiting for it to kick in. Dh is gonna paint tonight so we're getting somewhere!

  30. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

    @FarmWifeGina: How did it go?!

@MrsTiz: I think we invited about the same amount of people. This one is for my friends/my moms friends/ and some of our family (DH's parents moved a few years ago, but all his Dad's family still lives here, so it's easier for them to come to this one). I know my MIL wants to have a shower at her church and I found out last night that my group of bible study girls are planning one for 2 weeks from now. DH's coworkers are super excited for him and have mentioned planning a "man shower" (he's one of two men in an entire school of women teachers).

I'm overwhelmed, but SO grateful that everyone is so excited!! This is making it seem sooo real, ahhhhh!!

  31. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@lilteacherbee: WAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I'm ok right now, I think. I had to bawl into Farmer Man's shoulder for a little bit after the bus left- I was trying to hold it back until he left for work, but he knows me too well and when he hugged me I just lost it. Deere Boy, with all his talk and excitement about getting on the school bus earlier, was kind of shy about it when it came down to it. But I got in with him and strapped him in and he was excited again. And then he waved as they pulled out- WAAAAAAAAAH!!!
Oh, and our's is a sparsely enough populated school district that my kids will ride "the short bus" all of their school years, that's not the special Head Start bus in the picture.

  32. MrsTiz

@lilteacherbee: I totally understand the "it feels so real!" now, we were putting batteries into stuff last night and DH was like "...it's so real now, we're putting batteries in stuff for Jack..because he will probably be here NEXT MONTH!" haha it was a wakeup call for sure!

@FarmWifeGina: Aww, hang in there mama, he's going to have a ball! You weren't lying when you said you lived in a rural area! How beautiful!

  33. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@MrsTiz: Yay, I'm glad your shower worked out so well. And go mom with the coupons!

I'm really excited because as of tonight, our nursery will finally be finished! We had one more art project, and were waiting on the last piece of furniture to arrive from PBK. We finished the art project over the weekend (DH did such a great job at implementing my idea!) and the bookcase arrives today. I can't wait to see everything finally all together.

Here's our last project, which I'm really proud of. I had felt like we needed *something* over the crib and this is what we came up with. We covered canvases in a fabric I picked out, painted letters (well, repainted a slightly different white) and attached them to the canvas.

@Mrs. J: Hope you feel better soon!

@FarmWifeGina: Those are lovely maternity pictures! Perfect time of day too, love the golden hour...I'm sure today was hard with your little boy, but he's going to do great. And that photo of the little bus is a sweet memory.

@MrsTiz: So glad your shower was a good memory for you! And wow - that gift of diapers and wipes for a year is fantastic!

@Maysprout: I haven't felt any Braxton Hicks contractions yet. I'm not even sure what I'd be looking for. Right now I'm just trying to count my kicks and get used to the little bubbles that I'm assuming are hiccups?

@ms.janedoe: I hear ya on those big "move-y" motions! And I too am getting a little overwhelmed by some of the decisions I've put off. I think we're going to try and lock in a pediatrician this week. Have you done that already? Good luck working through the decisions for your plan after maternity leave.

@MrsCB: How fun is that! Nice work

  35. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@MrsTiz: Yeah, our closest neighbors are 2 miles away. We can only see them because it's such a wide-open landscape. I love it.

  36. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@sweetooth: Yeah, I think the whole "choosing a pediatrician" thing was a little...overplayed in all of the internets/books... I just read some pediatrician bios online from the clinic closest to our house, called up and asked if they were accepting new patients (after explaining I'm due in November, blahblahblah...), the lady who answered said yes (like I was a crazy lady), and just told me to call after the baby was born.

Hahaha, I'm sure I could have made it more difficult by actually putting a list of questions together and "interviewing" them, but honestly, I'm not too worried about it. Not sure if that sounds bad...but I figure if for some reason I absolutely can't stand the one I've "chosen," there's more to see at the practice!

  37. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@FarmWifeGina: Aww I love that picture! I thought I grew up in the country, but its nothing compared to that! So beautiful!!! Glad to hear he's enjoying school that's great!!

@ms.janedoe: That's pretty much how I'm feeling about the pediatrician thing too. I've gotten some names of ones that my friends use and I figure I'll call and ask. If we don't like them, we can always switch.

    @MrsCB: I love the artwork!!!

@MrsTiz: Ahhhh!! I can't wait to get all the stuff home and start assembling it! We're getting so close, it's crazy!

  38. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@ms.janedoe: How funny, I just did this today.. I was stressing over not having a pedi yet, so I called a place near my house/work and was so nervous, had some questions I was going to ask, etc.. She said "at the hospital tell them you want to use us, they'll let the on-call pedi know..they'll come see you and then you come to our office the next day for a visit"..I was thinking I would have to fill out papers, etc... nooppe, nothing

@MrsCB: It looks great! It's going to be fun to see how we both used the same bedding.
@sweetooth: How are you locking in a ped? Are you interviewing, etc? I asked all of our neighbors with kids, and they are all at the same practice, so we are definitely going to check them out.

  40. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@Mrs. J: I think I might go check out the practice that my sister uses. At least see it in person before I jump in and choose it. It's pretty close by - but I have thought about seeing if there is one more even closer for comparison.
