@anbanan15: I totally thought about putting the tree up early but then I remembered that we were planning to buy a new one this year hopefully I can find something online for Black Friday...
@MrsDragon: I'm sorry you are having a bad day! Waiting forever for those quick appointments stinks. I won't be getting any cervical checks until I have symptoms of labor, if it makes you feel better!

@FarmWifeGina: Not until Nov. 9, so really, I know it's still super early! My mom is talking about showing up at the end of October and I'm just feeling pressured from people to have a baby. Which is dumb because up until last week I was saying I would be fine with her being late. I know she'll come when she wants to and I can't do anything about it... just starting to feel antsy.
@Cara M. 17: It's probably a good thing that I didn't get checked, really! I don't want to start putting all my faith & plans into numbers. I just sort of had to psych myself up for it and then it was not even an interesting appointment.

@MrsDragon: I hear you. I keep telling myself I will go late so that I'm not totally disappointed if my due date comes and goes with no baby. Are you still working? Between work and house/nursery projects, cooking and baking meals to freeze, and seeing friends and family, I've been keeping super busy. I think it's the best thing I can do lol

@Cara M. 17: Friday is my last day. I have tons of stuff to do but it's all stuff that I kind of hate (a.k.a. cleaning the whole house, haha) so I'm not super-motivated. But Saturday is our shower, and I *am* looking forward to my mom arriving. I think going on leave will make me less grumpy, really, because I won't feel the work vs. getting ready at home pressure.

@MrsDragon: Ugh, that sucks, lady. You're due the day after I am--we can be miserable together! That's great that baby is super low though!!
I hear you on everything though, seriously, like we're on the same page. I've been alllll good with baby girl taking her time and not coming out before she needs to, but now that I'm here, I just feel...like it could happen now and I'd be OK with it! Hahahha.

@MrsDragon: I must just be crazy with all of my cleaning and organizing! That's very true, I'm totally over work and the stress of still working full time and trying to prepare to be out (all of my projects have to be transferred) and also getting our lives in order. Maybe your mom can help with the cleaning

@Ash: Glad you had such a great appointment yesterday and that your baby is head down!
@Ash: and @FarmWifeGina: Since you are both in colder climates, I was wondering, do you have a coat that you purchased for your pregnant months? It's been so chilly in the AM these days and I'm doing the best I can to stretch the coats I have over my belly. Not always with the most success. What kind of outerwear do you have?
@stine_ciro: I should probably take a look at cleaning out my freezer. And we've been discussing getting another freezer. I wish I had thought about it in time for Columbus holiday sales. Now the next one might be....Veterans Day?
@anbanan15: Glad to hear that you have been feeling better! Enjoy those craft projects while you have the energy
@lilteacherbee: I hope you're holding up ok today and that you can get more sleep tonight!
@MrsDragon: Mopey, unmotivated days will happen. Sorry to hear about that long wait for your quick appt today. I can relate. I'll fill in more detail below.
- - - - - - - - - -
I went in for a basic appt today and then it became a whole morning ordeal. My OB check-up was good, and I mentioned at the end that I had an ultrasound scheduled for next Wednesday - we've been monitoring my baby's kidneys throughout the pregnancy. It's the only area of concern, but we can handle it. So then my Dr. says, "Well, I was going to request a sonogram today because you're measuring kind of small." Huh? Um, is that cause for concern? He said no, but that I needed to go get it checked today.
So I left the dr. office and went to my car to call the place I go for ultrasounds and proceeded to sit there, on hold, for 40 minutes, only to find out that they had no openings today. Nice. Real nice. So then I call my dr. office and tell them I need plan B, and they send me to the ultrasound place down the street that can get me in right away. As in, that very moment.
It was hard to return to this place, it was where I went at about week 8 when I had some bleeding. So I felt kind of emotional, sitting there, 5 months later, hoping my little guy was just fine. I felt fine, why should I worry, right?
It was the longest ultrasound ever, but I got to see my cute little guy. And she even turned on the 3D thing, and I could see his adorable cheeks. She checked my cervix too and I'm all good. I have plenty of fluid, so the whole "measuring small" thing was nothing to worry about. But they did tell me my baby's head is big. As in, measuring 2 weeks ahead of everything else BIG. I told them, I'm not worried. I have a big head, and my dad has a big head. When I was born the nurses told my mom that my head was big, and she just showed them a picture of my dad. It runs in the family. Now I just pray for my hoo-ha.
I hope that next week's appointment is a little less exciting.

@sweetooth: I'm Midwest, and I have been wearing my wool peacoat unbuttoned, and I plan to add a big, long scarf as it gets colder. Hopefully, since I am due November 7, the snow will stay away and I won't have to worry.

@sweetooth: Aww I'm glad the ultrasound went well!! Lucky that you got to see his face!! My little guy hides and we haven't gotten a good picture in a long time!

@sweetooth: Thanks! As for a coat, I thought for sure is be fine until sunday when I attempted to zip my winter jacket without luck. I have noooooooo idea when I'm gonna do these next few weeks especially because my walk into work is 2 blocks.... I can't see buying anything now. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.... Maybe I'll just throw on a sweatshirt and scarf. Idk.
Glad you got to see your little guy and that he's going well. I've always had a larger head but I haven't had any recent u/sounds to know if this little tyke has a big melon or not. I fear my hoo-ha too!

Still needs buttons, but I made baby a little coat. (The red photographed horrible) I'm not sure if I like it

So, I had both a regular OB appointment and a MFM appointment today. According to ultrasound, baby is measuring 7lb 12oz. I figured he would be around that much because he was 6lb 5oz three weeks ago, which goes along with the 1/2 a pound a week theory. We know ultrasounds can be off, but he's been huge the whole time so I'm more inclined to believe its fairly accurate.
He was measuring 3 weeks ahead, which is no surprise because he's been consistently measuring that far ahead since 20 weeks. We talked about the c-section possibility again. The fact that I have GD and he's measuring far ahead, plus the other medical issues I have that would make an emergency c-section not favorable means that we've pretty much decided on scheduling a c-section at 39 weeks. I would likely be induced anyway because of the GD and we really don't want me to end up with an emergency c-section.
I should know the date tomorrow and it will be about 3 weeks from now. Oh, and I'm officially done at the MFM office!! Next appointment is at 37 weeks next Thursday. And my last day of work will be Nov 8!!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@lilteacherbee: Sounds like you have a good plan in place. How big do they estimate he will be? Your looking around 11/13 for your c-section...if I have one it will also be around that time. We will find out more Monday.
pear / 1571 posts
@sweetooth: I dunno, haven't thought about it too much, lol. I have some huge coats left over from my 2X days that'll probably zip over the bump, so that's probably what I'll use. My last baby was born at the end of February and I made do with layering with hoodies and not zipping my coat at the end, which is not very glamorous, but winter in ND is not a glamorous prospect anyways. Oh, and I only really went outside as little as possible, basically, from the house to the car and to bring in firewood. So, yeah, I'm cheap and not a good one to ask, lol.

@Mrs. J: Good idea, I think I need to start adding a scarf. When I come home after my morning walks it's my belly that is the coldest. I need to keep the little guy warm! And me too!
@lilteacherbee: Thanks! I do feel lucky that I got to see his little face. His hand was up close to it, so it's just a profile or 3/4 view, but it's sweet. Something I can focus on in these final weeks // Congrats on being all done at the MFM! Are you feeling good about scheduling the c-section? All that matters is a healthy baby and mama.
@Ash: I know what you mean about not wanting to buy a new coat right now. I was considering this one : http://www.hm.com/us/product/11594?article=11594-B Seems like a reasonable price. And I can layer underneath of it. Thing is, I just don't need another coat. As for the large noggin' club that we are both a member of, maybe it's best not to know if your kid has one too
@anbanan15: How cute is that coat!
@FarmWifeGina: Layering is a good plan. It's not really about glamour, I'm just not used to having this protrusion that is a different temperature from the rest of my body when I come in from outside And I don't think I can stay inside...as tempting as sleeping in is. I love my morning walks.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@anbanan15: so cute!
@sweetooth: that coat is super cheap and would be perfect to get you through the next month. and you're right, I'm glad I don't know! We had a quick u/s yesterday to verify position and I loved seeing our the turkey - my midwife did a face shot and I melted!
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@sweetooth: I also had a growth ultrasound a few weeks ago because not only am I measuring small, I didn't grow at all for a few weeks. I guess I'm still small and they might book another one for around my due date if she's not here yet. I'm glad everything went well for you in the end! Our girl's head was 5 days ahead of the rest of her.
@lilteacherbee: It sounds like you have a good plan in place!
I've been wearing a wool coat that is swing-style, so it has two buttons just at the top. It looks kind of ridiculous though, like my belly broke the buttons that should be at the bottom or something.
pear / 1571 posts
@sweetooth: Haha, well I wasn't sure how important fashion is to you. And maybe it's weird, but I've never noticed my bump getting cold when sticking out- that puppy is a heat source all on its own.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@MrsDragon - I'm convinced everyone always says you're coming early and the baby dropped. Several of the ladies at work are convinced I am going to have the baby any time now because of "the way I am walking."
I was planning on working next week, but I think this Friday will be my last day because this week has been miserable. I have an ultrasound on Friday, so we'll see what the doctor recommends. 2 weeks ago, LO was measuring 2.5 weeks more than EDD and 7 lb 5 oz. I'm really hoping she comes a bit early, otherwise she's on track to be 9.5 lbs!

Those of you expecting baby #2+ how are you handling when big bro/sis is going to meet their new little bro/sis? Are you waiting until you are home, bringing them into the hospital right after L&D, the next day, etc? I've sort have been stressing about this and pushing it to the back of my mind, but with things about to happen in the next few weeks we need to figure it out. DS is VERY attached to me and very obsessed with my belly, so I'm not sure which option would be "best" for him.
@sweetooth: I've been just trying to make due with what I have, mostly open front sweaters. I don't want to get a coat I'm not going to wear for only a few weeks. With DS I was due in April and was able to wear my regular coats up until I delivered.
persimmon / 1386 posts
@anbanan15: That is a really cute coat!
I am not worrying about a coat for me because I don't spend that much time out in the cold. It is just now getting to be chilly but I mostly just go from my house to my car to work. And I think if I needed to I could still wear some of my coats that are pretty big.

So I had what should have been my last midwife appointment yesterday. Hahahaha. Wishful thinking. Guess who decided to go ahead and get in a head down position 5 days before her scheduled c-section? Sigh.
So she is still in an "unstable lay" since she is not engaged at all and still moving a ridiculous amount (DH could see my belly move from about 8ft away the other night!). The midwife said it is our call to do the c-section as planned or not.
I have said how I have accepted the c-section and that there are a lot of pros to it. I am mentally prepared for a c-section. At this point I am not mentally prepared for labor. But after discussing it last night, DH and I basically decided that we would go in for a cervical and position check on Monday and if she is still head down we will cancel the c-section. If she is back breech, we will proceed as planned with the c-section on Tuesday. Yah, a plan made.
DH got me one of those at home dopplers to use in the first and second trimesters. When she was breech they found her heartbeat about 4 inches above my belly button but it was about 4 inches below my belly button yesterday when she was head down. So I double checked that with my own doppler last night. Sure enough, the heartbeat was down low.
When I woke up this morning, I checked again. Guess where the heartbeat is now? Oh, back up above my belly button. Ughhhhh. It's like everytime I make a decision, she knows and decides to mess with it. She is clearly her father's daughter. Ha.
So the latest plan is for me to monitor her position all weekend via doppler and see if she is still moving from one to the other or if she stays mostly head down or head up. And if she is head down at the appointment on Monday and has been most of the weekend, we will cancel the c-section. But if she is breech on Monday and has been most of the weekend, we will proceed with the c-section as planned for Tues....

@NeekieRose: Crazy little girl! Whisper your plans from here on out. I bet she's listening in and having fun with you guys Glad to hear you have a plan and good luck with monitoring over the weekend.
@MrsDragon: Your comment about your belly breaking the buttons at the bottom of your coat made me laugh I was at a store trying on a coat and they tried to sell me on a coat like the one you're describing. Thing is, I want to make my belly warmer! I thought I'd be a sauna, but my belly is chilly after being outside because it's drafty down there!
@FarmWifeGina: I think it's because I don't have enough long, warm items so when I layer, there's a bit of a drafty gap below my belly. Allowing chilly air in there! I expected to be hotter because I'm cooking a human.
@stine_ciro: Do you have plans for when you're off work and waiting for baby? I think I'm going to take a few days off before my EDD. I had thought I'd work until the end. We'll see.
@anbanan15: I'm not expecting #2, but my sister just went through this at the end of August. She had her son meet his new baby sister when we all met her in the hospital. He didn't really warm up to her for a while, it was definitely a transition for them. But I think it's good that he was there with other family members and we could ensure him that he'd still be getting love and attention, even though the new baby was SO cute!
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@stine_ciro: I do know that she dropped -- the doctor tells me every time I'm in, haha! But the coming early, yeah, I don't know why everyone is convinced of that. My dad even texted me a few days ago with 'I keep getting the recurring feeling that baby is coming sooner rather than later.'

Also put this on our appt board....
So, I had my weekly appt yesterday (I am 38 weeks today!). My appt was 3:20...I didn't walk out of the office until 5:45. I was SO mad that I had to wait so long.
It went well, though. They did a cervical check since we last did one 2 weeks ago, and I'm still only 1cm dialated. Baby is head down, which is good. She didn't seem concerned by the pains I was having on Saturday, and she reviewed my birth plan, and said it looked great.
Unfortunately, my hospital doesn't have a birthing stool--apparently someone keeps stealing them? Weird!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@MrsDragon: I love how everyone thinks he/she knows when a baby is coming...no one knows! You could be dilated for weeks, or not at all and then the baby comes! None of the "signs" are actual signs!
@NeekieRose: I wish baby girl would make it easier on you!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@sweettooth - No plan really, just thought I would get some of the things done around the house that we still have not done, like cleaning and making some frozen meals. Maybe go out to lunch with friends who live/work on the other side of the city. Mainly I just really don't like my job and am looking for an excuse to not be here any longer than I have to be.

@sweetooth: @Ash: @NeekieRose: @Mrs. J: Thank you. BTW, red is horrible to photograph...it's just a blob lol
@NeekieRose: Oh no! I wonder if my baby is doing a similar thing!? I still feel tons of big movements also. Interesting about the doppler. Heartbeat has always been taken by my midwife almost level with my belly button, maybe an inch lower and to my left, but that same general area, but baby has been transverse, breech and head down (if the other midwife and u/s tech were right that, but I wonder). Good luck over the weekend and deciding Monday! I think I would feel the same way. It hasn't even been scheduled yet and I'm mentally prepared for a c-section
@sweetooth: I think that is our plan too, at least what I always thought we would do...have my mom (or possibly DH) bring him in as soon as possible after she is born.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@MrsDragon: That's frustrating. It's so much time for what seems like silly appointments though I guess they'll catch big things.
@anbanan15: I LOVE the red coat, I think it will look amazing, that's awesome you can make stuff like that.
39 weeks today! LO and I have terrible colds but I think yesterday may have been the worst of it *fingers crossed*. I tried asking the pharmacist if there was anything I could take and they're like not that we would recommend this close. I tried the neti pot and everything must be swollen because the water got in my inner ear and I woke up with terrible ear pain. I took a really steamy shower that helped drain things out and made the ear pain tolerable enough to sleep, but this cold is making the last few days/weeks of pregnancy unfun

@Maysprout: Thank you. I'm sorry you are feeling under the weather! I hope you and your LO start feeling better soon and passes quickly since you are so close...ahh how exciting!! Any day! Is your LO ready to meet her little sister? (I hope I got that right that you will have two little girls).

Hi Ladies! I haven't been following the posts today because the little dude decided that he wanted to be born at 38 weeks! My water broke this morning at about 130am and we knew he was still breech so we headed into the hospital pretty quickly. Today was actually our consult to attempt a possible ECV to flip him, but he obviously is calling all the shots. The c-section went well. I am feeling pretty good just super tired from not sleeping. I can't believe I'm a mom! We didn't even have our bags packed! Ha!
Good luck to the rest of the November mamas. I'll be sticking around here even though I'm now an October gal!
Oh. And even at just 38 weeks he weighed in at 7lb13oz! I'm really happy that even with the csection I got to experience going into labor so I knew he was ready
