@NeekieRose: Good luck! I have my 36 weeks appointment this afternoon to determine if we will be scheduling a c-section or not as well. I know it's not the same thing, since your LO could be here tomorrow, but I sort of get what your saying...it would be nice to just know when

@ms.janedoe: what?! No way...are all of these breech November babies turning around in the womb to stay warm?

@ms.janedoe: oh no! Keep us posted on what you decide to do. I'm in the waiting room for my appointment.

@ms.janedoe: What???? I can't believe only 3% of littles are breech and yet so many of us on the November boards have found out ours are. Keep us posted. How many weeks are you?

@ms.janedoe: That sucks! The rate of breech babies is insane in our group!

I will be doing the c-section tomorrow as scheduled. Baby is still head down, but she is not engaged, so there is no guarantee that she will stay that way, especially given her predisposition to flipping around.

Ahhhhhhh!!! I kinda can't believe this is happening.

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@NeekieRose: Ahhhh!!! What time are you scheduled??

I went by the hospital today to turn in some paperwork and as I was walking in, a lady was being wheeled out with her newborn. That will be me in less than 3 weeks!!!!

38 weeks and 3 days... I GUARANTEE she's been breech this entire time...OK, story time.

So we had our ultrasound at 20 weeks, found out she was a girl, great, end of ultrasounds. Since then, as baby grew, there's been this giant lump in my upper left belly that we assumed was her butt--this was reinforced as my doctor started checking from the outside (just feeling around and grabbing down by my pubic bone) and "confirmed" that it felt like she's been head down. She's "confirmed" this over and over at every appointment since then.

So today, at 38 weeks and 3 days she offers to do my first cervical check. I say sure. She first listens to the heartbeat, measures baby, then checks from the outside and, yep, baby is "still head down!" Yay. So she gloves up, feels around, announces I'm "2 cm dilated and 50% effaced...but...ahh...it...doesn't feel like her head...is down..." She wheels in A PORTABLE ULTRASOUND MACHINE THAT I GUESS THEY'VE HAD THIS ENTIRE TIME, checks, and sure enough, baby is breech.

So this giant lump I've been jabbing at, thinking it's her butt, has REALLY BEEN HER HEAD. That explains the super noticeable hiccups, the basic lack of my dropping, the weird low movements...everything.

Anyway, I have a C-Section scheduled for next Wednesday the 6th at 9:30am. I honestly am totally fine with a C-Section--I haven't gotten super into a birth plan aside from "healthy baby, healthy mom," haven't taken childbirth classes, so like, I wasn't like, "mourning" the loss of a vaginal birth, it was just more of a..."you've got to be kidding me...I could have been prepping for this for months, and instead I just find out today" kind of shock...you know? Instead of buying pads and reading about breathing techniques, I could have been spending a little more time looking into C-Section...stuff. Hahaha. Fail.

Anyway, that's where I'm at! So now I guess here's hopin' she stays put until next Wednesday! I'll take advantage of the "certainty" until then and try to get a few other things done! Here's hopin' things are going well for everyone else!

ETA: She said we could do a version, which I basically shot down right away--I'm not comfortable with it at all.

@ms.janedoe: wow!! That's so crazy! Mine has been head down since 21 weeks. We've had monthly ultrasounds and he's never been breech. I'm glad that you're okay with the c-section. I've kinda been the same way- just want a healthy baby and not too overly concerned about the birth.

You're scheduled 8 days before me so you and @NeekieRose: will have to prepare me for the aftermath of a c-section so excited for you!

  18. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

    @NeekieRose: TOMORROW!!! SO exciting

@ms.janedoe: I just had an ultrasound last week so I know where our baby's head is...or was. But the way you described the lump in your upper left belly makes me think - has my baby moved? I feel like there's no way to really know a baby's position unless you have an u/s or cervical check.

I'm with you on the healthy baby, healthy mom approach. And hope that you can take some time to read up on c-sections before 11/6. Ahhh!!! You have a date!

  19. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

    @NeekieRose: Good luck tomorrow!

@ms.janedoe: So crazy! I've been feeling a lump too (upper right side) but movements have always felt the same to me and sometimes they say she is breech, transverse or head down on u/s. Only a week until you get to meet your LO!

So I just left my appointment and it's similar to @ms.janedoe: just experienced. From the outside midwife thought she felt head down and was 99% sure but said she could tell better once she did a cervical check. Gets in there and she cannot feel a thing!! She said baby is so far up there that even if she is head down we are looking at a Thanksgiving baby and that I haven't dropped at all. I have an ultrasound tomorrow to see it we can figure out her position. If she is not in position a c-section will be scheduled for around 11/15 (I was also offered a version but said no as well), if she is head down then my midwife said not to expect baby until Thanksgiving. She also said to stock on NB because she thinks she will only be around 6 lbs. I only gained a pound in the last 2 weeks and was measuring 35 cm (I'm 36w3d). So we will know more tomorrow afternoon.

    Yikes! All these c-sections!

U/s confirmed baby was head down last week and hoping to keep it that way!

@anbanan15: I'm thinking I'll be having a Thanksgiving baby too cuz I haven't dropped but you never know. Good luck tomorrow!

@NeekieRose: So excited for you! Good luck tomorrow!

@ms.janedoe: Sorry to hear baby is breach and you're feeling a bit unprepared. Hopefully you can read up in the next week or so and you'll be totally comfortable with it when the time comes.

@anbanan15: I am 36w2d, only gained 3 pounds in the last two weeks (that makes ~18 total), fundal measurement is 35 weeks. My ultrasound at 34w6d showed her to be about 5 pounds 13 ounces and they're estimating her to be 7-7 1/2 pounds. Strange that they're telling you baby will be only 6 pounds!

@ms.janedoe: good luck! My baby was breech exactly like that. My section was great and I had a good recovery. I hope the same for you!!!

@ms.janedoe: I had a really good experience. I hope that you do too! Try to get some rest. It made me feel normal the next day when they had me get up. The more you walk, slowly, the better you will feel. Keep up on the pain meds! If you have any questions or concerns, ask away!

@Cara M. 17: 18 lbs total is awesome! She was basing it off a few things...my ultrasound at 18w had her at 57th %tile (on track for a 7.5 lb baby) and then at 30w was down to 37th %tile. I thought she was still on track for 7.5 lbs until I asked today (they told me she was measuring "right on" at MFM). She didn't have the report from when I was in triage at 33.5w so I'm not sure what that had her measuring at.

  26. Cara M. 17

    clementine / 825 posts

@anbanan15: Ahh ok. Baby M was at the 56th percentile at 29 weeks then at 34w6d she was 53rd percentile. I guess it all depends on whether they continue at the same rate. The perinatologist said she could easily change her growth rate again before she's here!

  27. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Cara M. 17: oh that does make more sense now Yup I'm sure it could all change. I am really interested in what she was measuring at 33 weeks now! Maybe we will find out tomorrow even though they said it was a limited u/s just to check position.

  28. Cara M. 17

    clementine / 825 posts

@anbanan15: Yeah they should be able to tell you! My last u/s was to look at placenta position but I think they always have to look at growth.

  29. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Cara M. 17: Yes except our u/s techs aren't allowed to tell you anything here it's so frustrating! They do at MFM but the regular ones aren't supposed to. Praying I get a "friendly" one who breaks the rules

@NeekieRose: Wow, baby tomorrow! Awesome, and good luck!

@ms.janedoe: How frustrating, but how exciting to have an end date! Congrats!

I have totally become a lurker on this board since it moves so quickly and I usually read on my iPad which is annoying to type on. Oops. I have been following along with all of you with great interest, though!

So, a quick update on me: I'm 39 weeks today. Baby boy is head down and has been for a long time. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and they said he was in the 17th percentile--I kind of freaked out, because that's just so small, but they assured me it was small-but-totally-fine. I've been having lots more Braxton Hicks and other cramping (contractions?) in the past week but nothing regular. I lost part of my mucus plug today (yay!). My last day of work was August 29, so I've been preparing for baby ever since then. Everything is done and ready, now I'm just trying to keep myself busy waiting for him to come. I'm kind of bored but am trying to enjoy sleeping while it lasts.

I will be sure to update everyone on how the recovery from the c-section is. Hopefully it will go smoothly like @Jennimac's!
