    @NeekieRose: Good luck, mama!

And good luck to all of the other breach/c-section mamas! I guess it's the first step in babies being unpredictable.

I have a doctor's appointment today -- not expecting anything too interesting after my last appointment.

    @MrsDragon: good luck!

I have an appt today too - going over my birth plan.

Wow, congrats to the new mamas since I've last been online! I had a great experience with my C section for first LO, hope the same for you ladies. My first was breech too, this one is head down but I don't think he's dropped yet. I hit 38 weeks tomorrow and I keep looking for signs that I'm going into labor. I didn't go into labor with the first but I feel like the head down position is a whole new ballgame!

I wasn't totally committed to either VBAC or to repeat C/S but we had scheduled a section for my due date. Then they called me yesterday to tell me they have to reschedule my section because they have another procedure. Since I wanted it to be with the OB I've been seeing most of the time, they have to get back to me. I don't know what to do - I wanted to wait and see if I go into labor but don't want to wait so long and keep increasing my risk of uterine rupture. I just want someone to make this decision for me!

@ms.janedoe: My birthday is 11/6! Its a great birthday to have except that for years I wanted roller skates for my birthday and I didn't get them because it is getting too cold to use them outside. (I got them eventually.)

@Ash: haha dtd, what's that?! that has happened for us maybe 5 times the entire pregnancy. At first I was so paranoid and nervous, then I wanted to but DH didn't (he was uncomfortable with feeling the baby move during it), and now I'm definitely not interested!

I'm sorry it's become painful for you

@lilteacherbee: ummmm, first time it's happened in months lol! No more of that! 5x is probably all we've done it too and now I know why!

@Ash: I can't seem to get my husband to dtd because he's afraid of the baby's head being right there. So I just take care of business myself Is your chiropractor helping with your back pains?

@NeekieRose: Happy BIRTH day to you!

@MrsDragon: @Ash: Hope you both have great appointments today!

@shellio: I always thought that if you had a c-section with your first you didn't have a choice with your second. I hope you're able to get in with your preferred OB and that the baby makes the decision for you // Also - happy early birthday my fellow Scorpio - my birthday is 11/9!

@lilteacherbee: @Ash: Hahahhaaa, yeah, we haven't done it at all. I've totally tried to offer the goods up (HA), but poor DH is slightly terrified about the...close proximity...to what I guess is now baby's feet. Anyway, I'm fine with it!

@shellio: Baahahah, awwww, I'm glad you eventually got roller skates. That made my morning! Man, so when do you have to make the decision? That's a tough one!

@MrsDragon: Hope your appointment goes well and is uneventful today!

Good luck today, @NeekieRose! Can't wait for squishy pictures!

@Ash: I know, it sucks, right? Our lack of sex life right now is pretty depressing. It just sucks because it doesn't feel good and I hurt afterwards. I miss sex.

I had some hella legit contractions last night. Like, stop me in my tracks intensity. But they were short and irregular and Cricket was moving a lot during them, so I think s/he was turning or dropping lower into the pelvis or something. But yeah, I'll be glad for the more gradual build-up of intensity and subsequent endorphins when it comes to actual labor because those puppies hurt coming straight out of the blue like that!
Oh, and coincidentally, I had just tried to check my cervix in the shower yesterday morning because I was curious if it was moving forward at all and I couldn't even reach it, it's not even a little bit anterior, so I'm pretty sure Cricket's not coming out anytime soon. Which is fine with me.

@sweetooth: After having a C section, you can try to deliver vaginally the next time. Some hospitals or physician groups don't allow/support it. And the likelihood of success depends on the indication for the C section, and the woman's history. I have maybe a 50-60% chance of successful VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). But after having a section, there is a greatly increased risk of uterine rupture during labor compared to non-scarred uterus. Which would be really dangerous for both baby and me.

If I knew this was our last kid, I would schedule a section and be done with it because it was so easy and awesome. But there are risks that go up with every c section, and we think we want 3, and I am not opposed to 4. I feel like 4 c sections is too many for me to take on electively although of course there are plenty of women who do it and do fine. So I am considering a VBAC on the chance that we want 4 kids... we'll see what happens.

@ms.janedoe: The roller skates had Garfield and Odie on them. They were awesome and I'm sure are still in my mom's basement. I guess I can decide at any time, just depends when they have availability although I thought that since we had scheduled our c section 6 weeks in advance we were all set with that date. I might try to contact my main OB today to talk about it.

    pear / 1571 posts

@shellio: I wish I could remember where I read this so I could link it, but from my understanding, the risk of rupture is the same all through pregnancy and then peaks at 8 months of pregnancy, not during labor. Unless, of course, there's Pitocin involved.

  12. shellio

    pear / 1614 posts

@FarmWifeGina: Actually pitocin only minimally increases the risk of rupture up to moderate doses. Cytotec greatly increases the risk. Yes, the risk is increased throughout pregnancy but greatly increases during labor.

@shellio: Wouldn't it be nice if it were easy?! Hahahah, back in the day the only worries were if you'd get your Garfield and Odie rollerskates! I also may have done a Google search to see if I could find 'em...just sayin'.

  16. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@shellio: Yep, the risks between a VBAC and a RCS are so close, it's definitely a HARD decision. You'll make the right one for you.

Just had my u/s and they didn't tell me anything. I think she said "there is a had down there", but I'm not positive, otherwise she said nothing. I had to wait 40 min for her to come back and tell me we could go...she said she was going to come back and go over position but they kicked my own of the room to do someone else. I didn't even get the picture she printed lame

@anbanan15: That stinks! Maybe they will save the pics for you in your chart or something? Hopefully they call you soon with more info!

I just read your post asking how we were going to introduce our older LO. My DS is a little younger than yours, they will be 22 mos apart. And he is not super attached to me since I work full time so he is used to being away from me, sometimes a couple of days go by when I don't get to see him because of my hours. We plan to bring him to the hospital as soon as is convenient after baby arrives, as in, not missing naps or waking him up overnight. The couple of tips I have heard: Mom should not be holding the baby when he walks in, and bring a gift for DS from the baby to the hospital with you so that when he comes, baby is giving him a present. Also, good advice from a girlfriend, let him get as involved as he wants to be (obviously as long as its safe). She said, if he wanted to be in my lap when I was breastfeeding, or sitting right there when I was changing diapers, sure, it helps keep them from feeling they aren't welcome. It makes sense to me Hope this is helpful.

So I had a fun morning of NST, then ultrasound, then OB appointment. And honestly, I've had better mornings :-/. Baby did fine at NST, but the US tech had a hard time getting accurate readings because he was moving. She's guessing (and she said she over estimated) that he's 7.1 pounds...at 36 weeks! I have a freaking full term size baby in here. Explains why I feel like he is just SO heavy.

The good news was that he was head down and in the LOA position (most optimal). We were also able to schedule my induction. I'll go in the afternoon of the 19th, and hopefully he'll be here on the 20th.

But...I seem to be having some blood pressure issues and they almost sent me back down to L&D. I need to do a 24 hour urine collection and go back to the hospital on Thursday for some labwork to see if I have pre-eclampsia. DH thought the OB was over-reacting, but I went from 120/85 at 8:15, to 130/100 two hours later, which made me nervous. And the urine sample they took this morning was apparently "borderline".

@shellio: I probably won't find anything out until Monday. I don't think my midwife will call (they tend to be slow with calling about lab results for non-STAT orders anyway) since my appointment is less than a week away. It may get released to my online chart within 4 days, but I'm not positive.

Yes thank you! We planned on doing something similar, just hope that's enough and I can totally see DS wanting to be up on me while nursing. I'm sure that will be fun lol. Great tip about mom not holding baby though...not to compare children to dogs, but we were told the same thing from our vet when we brought DS home and introduced the dogs to him

@ShootingStar: Yay for big GD babies mine was estimated 7lb 12oz at 36 weeks. Sorry about the blood pressure stuff, definitely doesn't sound like much fun I hope the tests turn out okay! Are you thinking that you will make it to the 19th?

    @mrsjyw: Aww, Thanks

@anbanan15: Ugh that must be so frustrating that they don't tell you anything

@sweetooth: Bahahaha, I don't even have the energy (or the drive) to take care of things myself. Plus, DH practically begs for it daily. It's definitely there if I want it - and after last night, I don't think that will be happening!

@ms.janedoe: Silly husband. I'd be fine if my DH hadn't wanted it this whole time. Darn him!!

@FarmWifeGina: I miss it too. And afterwards, I had some cramping on top of the horrendous back pain. I was like, "screw this!!"

@lilteacherbee: Same!! But I don't think that will be anytime soon.

@ShootingStar: Oh my, that's pretty high! Hopefully your 24hr urine comes back fine. I'll be thinking of you!

@anbanan15: oh man, what the heck?! Nothing like leaving you hanging.

@mrsjyw: Thanks! I still remember following your birth progress - seems like it was just yesterday!!

My appointment went well. GBS was negative. My midwife discussed some birth positions with me - said I can labor at home as long as I'd like and I can have the baby any time now. Buuuuut also let me know I shouldn't plan on going early - which I haven't.

Car seat is installed. YAY! Now I just need to finish packing my bag.

@FarmWifeGina: Intense contractions out of nowhere sound intense! I would prefer a gradual build too.

@mrsjyw: Thank you! Hope you're doing well and enjoying your little one

@ShootingStar: That does sound like an eventful morning! I hope everything works out ok and you can make it until the 19th.

@Ash: Glad your appt went well! Yay for having the car seat installed!

@Mrs. J: So nice of your husband to surprise you like that had you discussed cosleeping with him before?

@shootingstar - oh no! I hope your appt on Thursday brings good news.

Today was my last day of work. Yea! So excited to spend a few days relaxing before LO comes, but I am coming down with a cold, which sucks. I can't breathe because of all the congestion and I had an even harder time than normal sleeping last night. At least I can sleep in tomorrow.

@Mrs. J: Aww isn't it sweet when they surprise us like that?

@Ash: Haha it's funny how we dtd allll the time a year ago (TTC for 13 months with long cycles meant doing it a LOT!) and now it's just not happening. Ever.

So, I just had a lovely conversation with my mom (sarcasm.) Our hospital is very nice when it comes to keeping baby with mom, even after a c-section. I'll be sent to a recovery room right after surgery and Nathan will stay with me the whole time during the hour long stay before we are moved to the mother/baby floor. The hospital allows 2 visitors at a time for this hour, if we want. Well DH and I have decided that we just want it to be our bonding time and then the grandparents/my sister can meet the baby when we go upstairs. It's only an HOUR after the surgery is over, yet my mom completely flipped out and basically said that it means I don't love my family if I don't let them in RIGHT after the baby comes out.

Ugh. I knew it would be like this (my mom's always been this way). She had a c-section with me and was put under general anesthesia and I quote "Even I wanted my family there right away...because I LOVED them." I know that it's my baby and my decision, but it sucks because she thinks she's right and therefore I feel like a horrible daughter.

@stine_ciro: Woohoo!! So exciting about your last day of work And I'm coming down with a cold as well. I seriously had a conversation with my kiddos at work today about using tissues and coughing into their elbows. I mean, it kinda comes with the territory of working with little kids, but I do NOT wanna be sick now! I only have 1.5 more weeks left before I'm done.

Thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes! Reagan Rose was born at 12:15pm and weighed 8lbs 4oz and is 20in long. The c-section went very well and I am not in any pain yet.

Part of the reason we decided to do the c-section was so a cyst on my ovary could be removed. They were able to remove it but it added 90 minutes to the surgery. Not a huge deal but definitely stressfull for DH who was in the nursery with baby and wasn't expecting that long of a wait.

She has lots of dark hair and is very pretty. Once I was in recovery she started nursing right away like a champ. She has nursed 2 more times since but currently is much more interested in sleeping.

    Here are a few pictures.
