Hi all! Congrats to the new mamas! We have had so many visitors and baby boy is keeping me so busy that I have not been online at all! (I'm going through withdrawals.) I tried to catch up to everything.
Mattias was born Tuesday morning at 9:10am and everything went very smoothly with the C section. We were even on the news since he was born at 9:10 on 11/12/13! That was just a funny coincidence that somebody pointed out immediately in the OR, and then a local news station sent out a cameraman and interviewed us. I was thinking I must be nuts for being on TV the same day I gave birth/had surgery but it made for a cute story and at least I didn't look like a total disaster.
So far he is very different from his big brother as a newborn. We had to set alarms for all of brother's feedings as he would sleep or just hang out and never cry or demand anything, and this guy definitely lets us know when he is ready to eat. Breastfeeding has been amazing this time around! I am having only minimal pain by today when he first latches, and I think my milk is already starting to come in. I feel like I'm due since we had so much difficulty the first time around
As for meeting his little brother - my DS was AWESOME. He came walking in with grandma, saw baby Matty and got a huge smile on his face and said "Hi!" He sat up on the bed with me and Matty laid across both our laps and all brother wanted to do was hug and smooch him! It was the most beautiful thing to a mama's eyes!
Not sure if I want to put pictures online yet... So excited to share news and read about everyone else's great news!!

Thank you everyone I finally got some rest earlier tonight and I feel so much better! I still can't believe he's really here!! Amazing.

@lilteacherbee: oh Jen, I am so happy for you! I just saw this and am so excited for you! Hope your feeling ok!

@shellio: love that you were interviewed just a few hours post partum. I wonder if the OB timed it that way on purpose? Very cool bday and time,
@lilteacherbee: congrats mama!!

@lilteacherbee: So happy for you! And amazing about his size - he's a tiny bit on the big size, but not exactly a 10 pounder.
I can not wait to see my baby on Monday or sooner. I'm having contractions again, but this time I'm not even worrying about timing them unless they're REALLY strong. I do not want a repeat of Wednesday, where I had several very uncomfortable cervical checks all to be told no progress and have the contractions wind down.
I'm getting really frustrated with my in-laws too. For one, FIL decided to have SIL fly out for the baby's arrival. Nice right? Only she's just going to be here Sunday - Tuesday. Baby probably won't even arrive until late on Monday, if we're lucky, and visiting hours won't start on Tuesday before she needs to leave. And I REALLY don't want anyone waiting in the waiting room for the baby to be born. It's enough pressure to birth a baby, I don't want the added pressure of people waiting around for hours on us. I have no idea if that's what she had in mind, but I'm worried that's what this is going to turn into.
Also, DH is really hurt by MIL. She and BIL were supposed to come to our house for Thanksgiving, and now she's backing out. She's kind of agoraphobic (my parents will be there) and she's suddenly telling him he should just invite his dad instead (they're divorced). I highly doubt his dad will want to come, he always spends holidays with DH's extended family. She did this with both my wedding shower and baby shower, but we thought that it was mostly because her ex-inlaws would be there. My parents are really not all that intimidating. Plus, she has met them before. Ugh.

@shellio. Congrats! I saw that story on the news here in Houston. How funny that it was a HBer.

@shellio: What an awesome birth date and time!
@ShootingStar: I'm sorry you're dealing with crappy family stuff. I'm also dreading the waiting room shenanigans -- my dad is here, Mr. D's dad is in the hospital as a patient, and his stepmom is coming this weekend so if anything happens it's a free-for-all.
I had a NST and another ultrasound today. Baby is doing extremely well according to everyone! The NST picked up small contractions, but then again, every time Mr. D made me laugh it registered on there so I don't really know what to believe, haha.
The doctor did a sweep, said I'm about 1 cm dilated, 30% effaced and my cervix is low and soft, so it's favourable. Hoping things happen over the weekend but if not we're headed back in Monday to do the NST/scan/check routine over again and then we'll determine if we're augmenting with gels. If so I have to stay in the ward for an hour but then I can go home.
The sweep wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be and my husband cracked me up at the end of it -- he let out the hugest breath he had been holding and was like, "THAT WAS IT?!" He almost fainted twice just going onto the ward (seriously, pins and needles) so I hope he does better when it's the real thing.
Other than that... nothing seems to be happening. I've had lower back pain since early this morning, enough that I woke up my husband and burst into tears, and I'm sorta stressed with family visits and that kind of thing, but I feel better just knowing things will get going one way or another.

So, I'm on my left side attempting to do kick counts right now. Baby hasn't been as active as normal today... checked the hr and it was 150s. But haven't felt a lot of movement. Kind of freaking out. Dh is in a meeting so I can't call him. Hoping to get my 10 kicks in...
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Ash: Did you get your kicks in? When in doubt call. At least you'll get peace of mind.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@anbanan15: I did. They had me eat a pb&j sandwich and drink some juice. I got exactly 10 kicks in the hour they had me count. The nurse called me back and said that's good. I'm almost wondering if baby did a flippity flop in there since the movements aren't as noticeable. After today, I'm ready for baby to be out. Too much worrying.
pomelo / 5132 posts
@MrsDragon: I had my ultrasound and NST today too--I've got amniotic fluid for days haha. We registered 3-4 contractions while I was hooked up to the NST machine.
I've been having what I think are REAL contractions today...I've been having intense back pain with it. Sometimes it feels like a band around me. DH is so excited they hurt lol...he said, "not that I want you to feel pain, but maybe this is REAL!"
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Ash: My orginal response was going to ask if you thought baby was laying with their back against yours. That's what my OB thinks is going on whenever my movement drops this last week because her butt can't be felt from the outside. Try not to stress (hard I know) and baby will be out soon...btw I'm totally with you want baby out now too because I'm tired of worrying etc.

@Mrs. J: Ooooo how exciting! Maybe baby j got the memo!
@anbanan15: I was doing so well too! I'm more focused since I'm off work now which doesn't help. Grrrrr! Thanks for your concern! did you get your Chinese for lunch? My chiro yelled at me for eating it last night! Yikes.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Ash: Nope! DS was a pill earlier so we are going to do lunch over the weekend. Eating at bonefish grill with my mom right now though.
@Mrs. J: your DH is funny! I hope ther real too!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@Ash: your chiro yelled at you for eating Chinese? lol had you eaten recently before the snack? LO was napping or something at first during the NST because I hadn't eaten in a little while, so they gave me some candy and water and I poked at the baby to get him/her moving.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@Mrs. J: yes! He told me it had msg in it... but it was only from Hyvee and I don't think they use msg. He said no more! It all started cuz he told me my face looked fuller and I figured it was from last night's dinner. Blah blah blah. Lol! The movements have been decreased all day... After drinking juice and eating lunch. She had me lay with my hands on my belly so I could feel the kicks that way and that helped.
How you feelin?
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@Mrs. J: They saw three big pockets of fluid during our ultrasound! The contraction meter thing was just sort of a wavy line, but I really didn't feel anything so... who knows. Mr. D got WAY excited when the nurse was explaining the monitor and said 'those are her contractions', haha. Hope they both make their appearances soon!
I feel like I *should* be getting up and being active now that I had my membranes stripped, but I'm super tired. I walked down to Mr. D's work -- maybe a 10 minute walk -- but other than that I've kinda been in bed all day.

Ok, so I'm a little bit in shock. My midwife made her pre-birth home visit today and I haven't seen her in over a month (just the way she has to do things because she's stretched so thin), but she palpated my belly and said she feels a big, long baby. She said she's not *real* good with guessing weights (many homebirth midwives can accurately guess a baby's weight by feel within a couple of ounces), but she wouldn't be surprised by a 9-pounder. This comes as a shock since my first two were little ol' average 7 something pounders and DH is a short, wiry guy, so I honestly never expected to have any real big babies. Not that 8+ is anything huge, but I was really honestly expecting another 7 and a half pounder. Guess there's only one way to find out! Pushing out a bigger baby doesn't really worry me since my first two came out really easy (once I actually got to pushing) and I am a tall, genuinely big-boned person, but yeah, I guess I'm just surprised. In other news, I'm measuring at 40 cm., which is also kind of a surprise since s/he is already dropped and I had definitely started measuring smaller once my other babies dropped. So, yeah, could be a big'un.

Hey everyone! New mama here just popping in during a marathon day of feeding every two hours. Our little guy's weight has been dropping since birth and he's a little jaundice. So we're working hard together to plump him up. By the way, my OB said my baby would have a big head and weigh over 7lb. He was 6lb 6oz and no big head.
Still not home yet. Out of the hospital for two nights but staying in an apartment with my mom while my husband gets the contractors out and cleans. Not how I pictured our first week as a family. I miss him like crazy. But I do see him each day and know this will all be worth it.
I'll post a picture when I get home and can get to a computer. iPhone life right now.
He is so tiny, newborn clothes swim on him.
Mom's that are in waiting - rest, sleep, and enjoy your lady parts and ease in using the bathroom. It hurts to stand up from sitting. I use a donut on the couch for my bum. Something to think about if you are planning for a vaginal delivery.
Also, can't remember but someone asked if I had symptoms before my water broke, none. Zilch. I was asleep and just woke up to a gush of warm fluid. Then it wouldn't stop coming out as I made my way to the bathroom and ultimately the ER because it was the middle of the night.
Congrats Shellio! Amazing birthday!
I'll catch up more soon. Can't wait to hear about more babies soon! Thinking of you all even if I can't respond individually.

@sweetooth: yay! Hope your little man plumps up soon!! And Your family is reunited shortly!
I hope baby comes soon. I have a lot of pain between my legs, which I have had basically my entire pregnancy, but it's just getting harder to deal with right now. Still no BH/contractions or any other signs that she is deciding it's time to come out.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@sweetooth: Wow, I hope you're able to get the house finished soon! That sounds stressful in the midst of a new baby!! Congrats again, by the way
@anbanan15: Ack, I'm sorry you aren't having any signs I'm convinced I would have gone overdue if not for the c-section. I had literally no Braxton hicks or any other signs, other than dull period cramps from about week 34 on.
@FarmWifeGina: Dang mama, I'm sure that was a bit of a shock. The doctors said Nathan was huge all along, so I was prepared for a 9 pounder and he ended up being just 3 oz below that. Still thought he would be a bit bigger though.
@ShootingStar: Yeah he always measured in the 95th percentile on growth ultrasounds. He was estimated at 7lb 12oz at 36 weeks and then born at 8lb 13 oz three weeks later. His movement slowed down A LOT during the last 2 weeks, so I think he just ran out of room in there. I don't think there was much more room for him to grow, especially considering the difficultly they had getting him out of the uterus even with a c-section.

This newborn thing is no joke! He's a little angel during the day, but at night- whew! He's fussy and he cluster feeds like crazy. It's 5:30am right now and I've gotten 2 hours of sleep total since 10pm. I'm hoping it will get a bit better when we get home and away from all of the hospital disturbances.
Breastfeeding is going better than I expected, which is awesome. We've been having to use a nipple shield, but I JUST finished our first successful nursing session without it!
Also, these hormones (or the hormone drop I guess) are crazy! I've been watching myself for sign of Baby blues and later PPD because of my history with anxiety. I think I'm okay on that front, but man, I'm just emotional in general! I was making laps around the floor earlier and started crying. Before my job now, I used to work at a preschool affiliated with the hospital (in order for the child to attend, at least one parent/grandparent of the child had to work for the hospital). Well as I was making a lap, I noticed a huge photo canvas with one of my kids from a few years ago. He was probably 2 years old in the picture. I started crying thinking about how fast Nathan is going to grow up and how he will be 2 years old in the snap of a finger! It totally broke my heart. He's not even 2 days old yet and I'm already having these moments haha
I can't wait for the rest of you mamas to join me on this side. It's seriously amazing. I never thought I would love such a tiny person so much!! Here's a picture I just took of him being sweet and happy after eating

@lilteacherbee: he is precious in his little milk drunk coma! Love it!! It sound like you are adjusting well and are even up in your feet already! Congrats!

I love reading all of the updates and am a bit jealous of the mama with their babies now that I am a few days overdue. I have consistently felt BH for the last month and have been active, but at my check last week literally nothing has happened. Tight, posterior cervix. Blah. Induction is set for 11/21 at 10:30pm but I would love to go naturally before.
We are having frequent sex (um, didn't realize that finishing in me is important...we had been having DH pull out for a while now. Oops), spicy food and pineapples are my new friends. I started evening primrose oil last night. I bought castor oil and am considering using it tomorrow. Today, we are tailgating and going to a football game. I'm hoping all of that activity sparks something.

I'm 41 weeks today. No baby and I get the feeling the sweep didn't do anything. I'm going to try some walking and cleaning!
pomelo / 5132 posts
41+2 today. Was having contractions 5 min apart last night while doing laps around the house, so we called the midwife. She said timing sounded good, but she wanted them to be stronger, so she sent me to bed. I woke up frequently with contractions, but today they aren't as consistent yet. Hurt though! Hoping today is baby day...of course, the university by the hospital is having a home game today.
@ChitownRo: are you going to the Northwestern v. Michigan game?

@lilteacherbee: What a gorgeous little baby! He looks so, so squishable!
pear / 1571 posts
@anbanan15: I don't seem to be having any signs either, if that makes you feel better. I was having some ridiculous weird anxiety yesterday about going to 42 weeks and feeling like this child will never come out. I don't know what I'm worried about- that's nearly 3 weeks away and I KNOW that one DAY can make all the difference for a heavily pregnant woman. I think maybe I'm in denial that we will have a baby around in here within the next few weeks, it just doesn't seem logically possible, doesn't feel real, and that's why it feels like I'm going to go past my due date in a big way.
pear / 1571 posts
@ChitownRo: @MrsDragon: @Mrs. J: You ladies are doing so well with the waiting! It will be totally worth it! Mrs J, I seriously hope today is your day!
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@FarmWifeGina: You have no idea how comforting the idea of one day making a difference is to me! I really needed to read that. I feel like NOTHING is happening - I barely even cramped from the sweep.
pomelo / 5132 posts
@ChitownRo: haha have fun! That's the game that could mess up me getting to the hospital
pear / 1571 posts
@MrsDragon: Aw, chin up! I've only ever gone overdue once, but I know how discouraging it can be as the days drag by. The best advice I can offer is to make fun little plans to get out of the house every day, set up something to look forward to as a wee distraction (and secretly hope you don't make it, even if it's your most favorite thing to do ever) and one of these days, those plans will not be fulfilled!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsDragon: Don't try to get discouraged by lack of symptoms from the sweep. They don't always work. With DS I had one done by my midwife at 39 weeks and my OB did another at 40 weeks. Both did nothing! I bled immediately following the second, which freaked out DH, but ultimately neither did anything. I was induced without even being the slightest bit effaced or dilated at 41w1d. ...being my first and wanting to do everything naturally I took the whole idea of induction and my body not doing it's thing on it's own really hard, which translated to wearing me down during labor and not being prepared physically. My midwife (OB delivered as she was on vacation) said to me the day after "did you not push that baby out all on your own? You can't get any more natural than that" and that is something that has really stuck with me. This time I'm much more lax about it all and have accepted the fact that I am most likely one of those women that just cannot get labor started on their own (both midwife and OB also said it looks like this is the case) and I'm completely fine with that..we all have goal for what an ideal labor and delivery means to us, but honestly the steps it takes to get baby in our arms doesn't really matter in the end. Having a healthy little squish and mama afterwords is all that is really important.

I'm still in an apartment waiting for my house to be ready to go back into with the new baby. I was supposed to be there tonight but my husband needed one more night to get things settled and clean. Well, at 12:15am, mid-feeding, Elliott got to experience his first FIRE ALARM! And we are on the 9th floor. And there were at least 6 fire trucks that pulled up. He was a trooper. Grandma carried him. I bawled my eyes out. And now, we are back on the boob. And I'm trying to figure out the best way to share this with his daddy.
pear / 1571 posts
@sweetooth: Oh dear, scary! Lol, I would be like, are you freaking KIDDING me?! Hopefully you guys get a restful remainder of the night and can be back in your own space tomorrow (today?).
