Excited to see this group growing!

It's hard to believe it, but some of us are getting close to the point where we could find out the sex of our babies (!!) Who is going team green, and who wants to find out (and if you want to, when do you expect to)?

I found out with both my girls via a guess at the 12 wk NT scan, and confirmation via my 20-ish week anatomy scan for DD1 and around 16 weeks via a just for fun scan courtesy of a family friend for DD2. I *thought* I was going to find out around 9-11 wks this time, but it's not sounding like my doctor thinks I need any of the testing (NIPT, Maternity21, etc.) that could tell me, so unless I can get the NT scan technician to guess in a few weeks or get a scan somewhere else, I'll have to wait!

The only other possibility is that I'm checking in with one other doctor to see if I'd rather deliver with her at a different hospital...so I suppose she might choose to order different labs. Can you tell I'm thinking about this a lot?'!? 😍

@Mrs. Sunshine: really hope everything goes well for both of us on Wednesday!
@PinkElephant: I'm definitely finding out! I'm doing the nt scan and some blood work that is paired with it that tests for gender. I did it for my other two as well, and so we find out around 13 weeks since it takes about a week to get results back. I posted on the boards the other day about a test you can do at home at 9 weeks where you send in a blood sample and they test it for your baby's gender. I'm considering doing it, I'm just afraid I would question it, and then what's the point? It's called sneak peak early gender test, and actually has really good reviews.

@LAZB: I saw your other post! I've never seen it before, and if I don't end up getting bloodwork with my NT scan, I might just do it. I might question it, too, but no more so than I'd question a sonographer's guess at the NT scan, which you'd better believe I'm going to ask for. Sigh, I am not a patient person. I love the idea of being team green, but absolutely can't do it.

@delight: @CedarMagnolia: @winniebee: yall are the best sometimes I feel silly talking about my "online friends" but I really do love it here.
@LAZB: me too! What time is your appointment? It's kind of cool that we love close and have appointments on the same day.

@PinkElephant: I am doing my NIPT next week. We are on the fence about gender this time. We did not find out with DD and I absolutely loved the surprise. However, after going through losses after her, I kinda just want to know everything this time. DH may need some convincing.
@Mrs. Sunshine: I love it here too. I have had so much support here it is overwhelming sometimes. We all hope for the best for everyone in this community. I am sure your days are just dragging, but keep the faith and keep throwing your energy into your LOs.
@LAZB: I didn't see your other post about the test! Is it only a test for gender or is it the same as NIPT but you just do it at home?!

@delight: yep, it's only for gender

@PinkElephant: We are attempting to be Team Green. It's our first baby and we're both excited about the surprise. I'm not into super girly clothing, so in the event we have a girl, I will likely just get lots of headbands in gender neutral colours for all of the clothes that are more boyish

We plan on finding out if/when we have a second child.

    Hi All,
I'm going to be leaving this board as I miscarried my sweet babe on Wednesday night. We're working through it, but it's disappointing and hard. I hope to be on a new board with a later due date soon enough. If anyone's interested in reading a bit about what we've experienced, a blog that I started writing privately as an online journal is now public (such as it is). https://dearlover.wordpress.com/ Good luck to you all with your pregnancies. Sending lots of love and positive thoughts to you all.

@PinkElephant: I am definitely finding out the sex. I was supposed to have the NT scan with my first but I was farther along (15w6d) and during the ultrasound it definitely looked like a girl and she was! I am going to call to see how much my insurance covers for NIPT and if it's around $100 or so I'm getting that done and I think I would find out then. My OB said most people were being charged around $100 so I hope that is accurate for me! Otherwise I would just have the NT scan.

@janeybee: so sorry for your loss

I had my appointment last friday but they just did the normal bloodwork so nothing exciting. She is going to give me an ultrasound at my next appointment since I told her my last one was mistakenly 3.5 weeks ahead. I think I'll take it even though I know my O date this time . I need to call to find out how much my insurance covers on the NIPT so hopefully they can do that at that same appointment 4/28 (will be 10 w)

@kes18: My insurances covers NIPT, but I got the impression my doctor thought it was unnecessary for me - I'll push a little harder at my next appointment. Last time I had a technician willing to guess at my NT scan, but in order to not get my hopes up, I'm not counting on that. DH is very open to the testing @LAZB: mentioned - we'd probably just take it with a grain of salt since it's not FDA approved.

@PinkElephant: Hmmm..yeah my OB said based on age and family history I didn't need any. But I need it for peace of mind personally (some kind of testing anyway). They offer all of them (NT scan, NIPT, penta screen) side by side. And since the NIPT is like 99% accurate while the others are not as accurate it's like a no-brainer to try for that one assuming costs are similar.

  24. dragonsword

    cherry / 175 posts

@PinkElephant: @kes18: I had the NIPT the last time I was pregnant, and although I didn't qualify because I wasn't going to be 35 at time of birth, we wanted to do it anyway (my husband really wanted to find out the sex early on). Turns out there are more new tests coming out and they said they would offer it to us for $90. without going through insurance. So we did it but had a miscarriage at exactly 12 weeks. Two days later my OB called me frantically with the test results (not knowing I already had the miscarriage). Turns out, the testing found out it was a girl and it was missing a x chromosome. I think back on it and how crazy the timing of it all turned out and how I would've never known why I had a miscarriage if I never took the blood test. Anyway, long story short, if money isn't an issue I would definitely get the test done if you can! It made coping with the miscarriage a lot easier (for me at least). You can always take the test and have them put the gender results in an envelope if you're not ready to find out either.

@dragonsword: oh wow, I'm so sorry. That is terrible. But you're right, I would also be able to process it better knowing the reason it happened- especially that late. I had no idea what they cost and my OB said most people were paying around $100 so that is do-able. I would just be more hesitant to spend $200+. I know I didn't get charged anything last time for my testing. An envelope sounds like a good idea so we could both open it together rather than me receiving an email or hearing over the phone!

Really sorry to read about the losses on this thread. Seems unfortunately so common. As I've been having spotting and some issues I'm worried this might be my fate too. Sending positive vibes to everyone on this thread and comfort to those who've suffered losses. I hope you all post with good news again soon!

I'm so sorry for all these losses and so many people in limbo land.
I had my first appt today and we fortunately got to hear a Doppler HB of 170. I'm going to have an ultrasound in a few days to figure out when I'm due, my guess was first week of Nov and abou9 weeks but it was easy her to find the HB so she said I could be a bit further. .

@ksommer: Very sorry to hear about your loss, and will be thinking of you, I hope you find some comfort in this group.
@goldengirl: Positive vibes right back at you and then some! Although disappointments and losses are not rare, a healthy pregnancy is the more common outcome. We have to hold on to the present moment
@maysprout: That is totally wonderful news to hear! It must have been awesome to hear that strong heartbeat. I wonder what your new due date will be - maybe October?!
@mrs.sunshine: @lazb: Still thinking, wishing, hoping and anticipating Wednesday! Only two more days! I can't wait to hear how your appointments go. I would love to add some clover images here, but I don't know how to

@dragonsword: I had forgotten you were one of the other girls (like myself) that had a TS pregnancy. We were chatting on another thread not too long ago. I'm so glad you are in this board and we can go through this together. I do my NIPT this week and am terrified of getting bad results again. My situation was a bit different than yours, I screened positive for T18 on the NT/IPS at 15 weeks. Then I decided to do NIPT and got results around 18 weeks when we found out about TS. Then we got our amnio results at 20 weeks and loss Ava at 22 weeks. It was so drawn out and such a nightmare. At least this pregnancy I'll know what's going on before 12 weeks. I'm sorry again for the loss of your daughter. It's heartbreaking.
@ksommer: I'm so sorry. So many of us have been through mc and losses. It's such a supportive community here. Best wishes when you are able to TTC again.
@Goldengirl: hang in there. The unknown is so brutal. I'm sending positive vibes your way. I hope you have a good update soon.
@Maysprout: wonderful news from you! Looking forward to hearing your EDD and adding you to the list.
@CedarMagnolia: when you add a message there is a little smiley face at the top. If you click on it, there are lots of little icons you can add!
@Mrs. Sunshine: I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best. Hope you are hanging in there.
@LazB: best wishes for your scan this week!!

I have my first doctor's appointment tomorrow. I haven't done the initial blood work even though I've had two scans. I'm only seeing my family doctor until after my NT scan on April 22nd and providing all is well, I'll be with my OB after then. I hate complaining but I feel like utter crap. My eating habits are horrid but I can only stomach bagels, pizza and KD. Are any of you taking meds for nausea? I never have before, I just sucked it up, but it seems worse this time.

@delight: My nausea has kicked in a little today. Mostly my appetite has just decreased. I ate bagels and other carbs for 3 weeks with my last pregnancy. I can't comment on the nausea meds because it also wasn't too terrible for me last time. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

@delight: the last three days I've been horridly sick. Trying so hard not to be a big baby, but I was gagging at my desk all day. I think I may ask my dr for a prescription just to have in case I'm having a bad day.

My first appointment and u/s is this afternoon! fingers crossed all is well.
