@bees_knees: @karenbme: I am also hoping for a girl, I think. A boy would probably be better since DS will be 18 months when this one is due, but girls are more fun.
I will be having my anatomy scan and fetal echo in six weeks It is funny, I had four ultrasounds with DD and every time she hid herself. With DS's first ultrasound the tech put the probe on my and boom there he was. He even showed off during his first echo to the point where the cardiologist even said "it is pretty easy to see you're having a boy".
But I am also starting to feel super nervous about this kid's health. Like I haven't been talking "if" they find something bad, I am more worried what it'll be.

@Ms. RV: Sorry you’re feeling like you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know your son had heart surgery right away...did your daughter have health issues as well? Hopefully your upcoming scans give you some peace of mind. Are you getting an NIPT or an early trimester screen as well? And so funny about them showing (or not, in the case of your DD) their “goods” at their ultrasounds None of my three boys were shy at all either...I def didn’t need to be an US tech to know what I was looking at!

@bees_knees: Thanks I don't think I'd be disappointed with a boy, ideally I want one of each, I'm just not sure that we're going to get two with everything we've been through, and it'd be nice to check girl off the list first.
Also my best friend had the same experience with her son. They were trying to be team green, but both of them saw what was going on even though the tech didn't say anything.
@Ms. RV: I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I wish there was something I could say that would help. Do you have any sense of what the recurrence rate for your children's type of heart defect is? I'm also kind of in the other shoe dropping camp with respect to miscarriage/chromosomal issues and it helps me a lot to look at research that shows that it's much more likely for the pregnancy to continue right now than it is to end. Of course if it isn't much more likely that everything is fine, I could see this hurting, too.
Had my blood draw this morning and they told me 8-10 BUSINESS days. I'm seeing my family next weekend, and was hoping I would have good news to share since others have been getting yours back in less than a week...

@bees_knees: I hear so many stories of boys showing off!!! Not getting NIPT or first trimester screening because neither DD's or DS's issues would have shown up, so I didn't really want to get false hope. Plus I have a HDHP and I'm cheap
@karenbme: My family is actually part of a research study to map a genetic disorder related to heart defects. We don't know if we have it for sure until they finish the study years from now, but I have mild symptoms as does DD and DS (aside from their heart defects). So it is probably a 1 in 4 or 1 in 2 chance for this baby to have it.
And don't you wish there was a way you could pay for NIPT results to come faster???

@Ms. RV: i'm sorry you're dealing with that! maybe a somewhat surprise baby will mean good luck. i can't believe you're already having a scan in six weeks but glad you don't have to wait any longer than that.
@Ms. RV: @bees_knees: @karenbme: i hope you all get the gender (really sex but it sounds weirder in the sentence) results you want! but i think boys are so fun too! i'm excited my little guy is going to have a little brother also, @Ms. RV: i was having kind of the opposite thought...i was worried if we had two sibs of the same sex so close in age they would be competing over everything and constantly being compared, where hopefully that won't be as much of an issue with a boy and a girl. i do think given their birthdays our two littlest will hopefully still be two years apart in school, so that gives some better distance.
@karenbme: ugh! are you doing the panorama as well? hope they're just telling you the maximum possible wait time! they told me 7-10 (and admittedly didn't specify, so i was assuming not business, but who knows...) and it was literally 4 so fingers crossed everyone will hear soon. one nice thing about the NIPT is i feel like our parents' generation has no concept that you can find out so early, so we found out the gender for my son at 10 weeks and then didn't tell anyone till after the anatomy scan. it gave us more time to digest the news without a bunch of comments from other people, which was nice.
i have my NT scan at noon. i'm honestly most nervous because they are going to be checking my SCH. the spotting has gone down dramatically but not stopped completely. it has stayed dark brown, which is good. i will just feel so much better if it has shrunk!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Ms. RV: I'm sorry it's so rare and there isn't good data. Even at 1:2, though, you're still just as likely to have a normal baby as not, so my fingers are crossed for you. And YES, I wish there were a way to hurry this along. I'll feel so much better if/when I know that everything is ok. PS-I'm also on an HDHP, but I'm going to hit my out of pocket max this year for sure, so I figure why not do all the screening.
@nwm: My practice does QNatal, so the wait times will probably be different. Still, though, maybe yours came in sooner because fewer people have babies in November and there was less wait for the sample to be processed, which should be the same from test to test, right? Good luck with your NT scan. I hope the SCH has resolved, and it sounds like if your bleeding is much less and all dark it should at least be smaller if not gone. If it helps at all I've been spotting brown to pinkish brown basically the whole first tri and they haven't seen any bleeding on my u/s.
pear / 1930 posts
@nwm: I didn't think about it before but you're right, our littlest ones should be two years apart in school. That's crazy to me because DD and her cousin are 23 months apart and only one grade apart.
@karenbme: Good point that at 1:2 I have equal chances. I am such a pessimist I didn't think of that. I only hit my out of pocket max last year because of DS's issues, so I hopefully won't this year. But I was able to get "free" carpal tunnel surgery last year so I guess everything has an upside!

@bees_knees: Thanks for the info! I actually didn’t know much about it, just that I wanted to be screened in the first trimester this time. Turns out I had the MaterniT21 test. She said I should expect results by late next week.

Well I broke down and wore maternity pants today for the first time this pregnancy. So much better now!
clementine / 830 posts
@Ms. RV: oh man. nice! i've been debating when to make the switch. i wear jeans basically all day every day so it really feels tight. on the other hand, we're still waiting a while still to tell people. (given what a surprise this pregnancy is, we're honestly expecting some blowback both from work and family...we debated telling people this weekend and were honestly like, meh we're still not ready.) so i can't decide if jeans are better because like, i look like i'm struggling with my weight but no one's going to call me on looking chubby, whereas if anyone noticed i was wearing maternity jeans, the cat would kind of be out of the bag or i'd really have to lie about why.
my NT scan friday went pretty well. the baby looks perfect, so that is great--they did a very encouraging speech about risk levels based on all the testing. the SCH is still there, and still the same size. the doctor was pretty encouraging that that was good news, because the baby has basically doubled in size and the SCH hasn't grown at all. she said she'd worry if it was growing with the pregnancy or if new bleeds had shown up. so i'm trying to be zen about it. i didn't have any spotting over the weekend, so that is a plus.
hope you all had great mother's days, and that everyone starts getting some test results back early this week!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@nwm: I'm so glad everything is still on track and your SCH isn't getting any bigger! It's also good to hear that you haven't been spotting anymore, it's so nerve wracking. Also, I say be comfortable and don't worry about it! If someone does notice and is ballsy enough to call you out, you can always say you ran out of clean non-maternity jeans.
pear / 1930 posts
@nwm: That is great to hear about the scan! It must be how I'm carrying (if you can call it that at 14 weeks) but I am showing a lot less in maternity jeans than regular ones.

Hi guys! I'm due mid-October with #2, but there doesn't seem to be an active Oct board... would it be ok if I hang here?

@Umberto: welcome!
@nwm: what wonderful news! Glad everything looked good!
@Ms. RV: I have been wearing maternity clothes for a solid two weeks already. I look way less pregnant when I do, and they’re so much comfier!
I had my NIPT testing done yesterday, so I’m hopeful I’ll get results around my next appointment and ultrasound next week. And in only tangiential news, my brother and SIL had their first baby today! He’s so adorable, and it’s making me even more eager for ours to get here (in a million years, it feels).
persimmon / 1064 posts
@Umberto: yes please do! When is your due date I can add you to our list
I feel like I’m in the “kinda pregnant looking, mostly just chubby” stage. My jeans still button but since I’m so nauseous I usually leave them undone
My OB told me she’d expect my NIPT results yesterday or today, so I’m anxiously (and very impatiently) waiting for her to call!

@karenbme: @Ms. RV: @rattles: thanks ladies! post-scan things are starting to feel more real for sure. and no spotting since last friday still! that is making me feel good. i hope it holds up!
@rattles: @bees_knees: so excited for you (and all these other ladies too) to be getting some results! @rattles: are you getting sex results as well, or team green?
@Umberto: definitely! give us your deets and join in!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@bees_knees: I'm definitely with you in the more chubby/bloated than pregnant camp right now. All my jeans still fit, although I do change into sweats the minute I get home, "to be comfortable." I also bought a belly band today because I was at Target to get a graduation card and they had a big display of maternity wear, which I am so not ready for, but I really wanted to buy something. Anyways, sending good vibes for your results!

I got my NIPT results, and all is good. So I guess we are free to start telling people, but I still don’t feel ready for the wider world to know.
I did tell our daycare provider today, and the first thing she said was that she’s likely getting rid of her van so there won’t be space for another kid, so I guess I’m looking for a new provider. I’m not entirely surprised, because she has commented that she is winding down. It seemed like we had a few more years, and I was anticipating the baby going there for at least a couple of years, so I’m sad. We’ve had her for five years, since our oldest was born, and conveniently she also lives right in our neighborhood. We’re also super close to the other family that goes there. She made a comment about us having to do two drop offs, but if we switch for the baby, we’ll also switch the two year old.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@LemonJack: congrats on the good NIPT results! Did you find out the sex or are you Team Green?? I can’t keep up with us all
Bummer about having to find new daycare. And yeah, I wonder why she thinks you wouldn’t switch your 2yo too? Hopefully you find somewhere else that is another good fit!
persimmon / 1130 posts
@bees_knees: Thanks! We are team green, so no results here.
I’m wondering if she thought we wouldn’t switch since our baby will only go from March-June (I’m a teacher and the kids are with me all summer). But, if we find someone who has the openings, we’ll switch ASAP because openings are hard to come by.

@LemonJack: ahhh gotcha! Yeah I’d snatch an opening as soon as I could, too! I’m so jealous you already got your NIPT back!
How cool is it that we have 1 of each so far?!
clementine / 830 posts
@LemonJack: awesome! congrats on the good NIPT! right there with you on not being ready to tell people.
that is really tough on the child care situation--hope you can find some another great place quickly! you'd think at least she would be willing to do three months with one more baby so you would have more time to figure it out, but i guess if shes' winding down maybe it is just too much to take on.

@bees_knees: Keep us updated on when you get your results back! Are you finding out the sex? I’d be super impatient if you were told to expect results yesterday or today!
persimmon / 1064 posts
@nwm: @LemonJack: I know I’m so impatient it’s not quite 5 here yet, but I’m assuming they won’t be calling today. Dang! And yes, 100% finding out the sex. It’s def contributing to my impatience
persimmon / 1130 posts
@nwm: Thanks! I’m already noticing a difference when we tell people. More surprise and less excitement since it’s our third. Not that it should matter, but it’s definitely something that makes me want to hold the info close.
And yeah, I was surprised thinking it was only a few months as well. She’s made it sound like she was still planning on doing this for the foreseeable future, and I do like a lot of the things she does with the kids. They go a lot of places and do a bunch. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find another person like that. But I also think maybe this is just the push we needed. She’s been different this year; more distant, and expecting more and more from us, and some things have been a little ridiculous, so maybe it’s for the best.

@bees_knees: Do you have a mychart? I’m wondering if they possibly sent you results on there and forgot to call. Mine popped up on there and I didn’t even know until I logged in.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@LemonJack: yeah I have a mychart...nothing there yet. Not for the lack of me checking and I totally hear you about the lack of excitement. Plus all anyone ever says is “do you hope it’s a girl?” (We have 3 boys). Ummmm no I’m hoping for a unicorn, but thanks for sharing in our excitement.
I mean, I AM hoping it’s a girl. But secretly. And I don’t want to broadcast it to the world, because...if it’s a boy, I don’t want him to ever think I love him less because he’s a him, ya know?
persimmon / 1130 posts
@bees_knees: Oh, duh. I knew you were finding out the sex, just totally forgot. I’m sorry you have to wait another day. You have to be so anxious to hear!
And I can imagine those comments get really old, really fast. We have two girls and I’m anticipating hearing comments about us trying for a boy. Nope. Not why we are having a third.
persimmon / 1419 posts
@bees_knees: I feel like being impatient in this situation is the only reasonable thing! It’s such an important call. Fingers crossed that you hear tomorrow. Also I totally get keeping your hopes secret. People can be so weird about gender, and say things that are just totally inappropriate.
@LemonJack: Congrats on the good results! And I’m sorry you need to look for new childcare. I don’t know what it’s like where you are, but we’re already on waiting lists and still aren’t sure there will be a slot in Feb.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@karenbme: Isn’t it crazy you’re on a list nine months out and aren’t guaranteed a spot?! Are you on multiple lists? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can go with a provider one of my coworkers uses. She’s moving to our city this summer and it sounds like she’ll be looking for another family. That’s all through the grapevine though, and who knows if we’ll even click with her.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
• Where are you located?: Australia
• EDD: October 17
• How far along are you?: 17+6
• Is this your 1st child?: 2nd, my daughter is nearly 3
• Any symptoms so far?: I've had hyperemesis gravidarum since 5 weeks which has been a special kind of hell. It's improved significantly in the last two weeks but not totally gone.
Any other HG-ers here?
• Who have you told?: Family and friends. Will probably announce on social media after the anatomy scan
Off to start reading the thread from the beginning so I can try to have some idea of who's who!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@LemonJack: Yeah, it's insane here. We're on 5 lists right now. It's not even about who we click with, it's about desperately hoping there's room somewhere that is within half an hour of one of our offices and not terrible. I know more people here who don't work or changed their hours because they couldn't find care than I do who have kids in full time daycare. All that said, good luck with the provider your coworker uses. That's lucky that she might have a spot.
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Umberto: Oof, sorry to hear about your HG. I'm (thankfully) not in the club, but a friend of mine had it with both her girls and it seems like it's its own kind of nasty.

Sorry I haven't been posting much, but I'm glad to see that everyone's NIPT tests are coming back perfectly so far. I hope everyone else gets their results soon! Nothing new to report over here. We told many people at about 13 weeks since I look pretty obviously pregnant - I've been in maternity pants for ages
@Umberto: Welcome! Sorry to hear about your HG. That sounds extremely miserable and difficult. I hope it continues to get better.
