@karenbme: how close of a relationship do you have with your OB’s office? I saw your most recent post on the boards too. Honestly, if you are experiencing that much anxiety I would ask to take a peek (or have a Doppler check at your nurse visit) Worst they can do is say no 🤷♀️
FWIW, lessening nausea is totally normal right now. And the odds of you continuing a healthy pregnancy are way better than any other alternative. But, I totally get your anxiety...especially with your history. Early pregnancy sucks!

@karenbme: I'm totally in the same boat. I had an ultrasound last week at 10+2 because it was my first visit to my regular OB. Everything looked good. And yet I woke up in the middle of the night last night with the very strong feeling that the baby had died. I'm trying really hard to stay calm about it today. I keep reminding myself that the chance of loss is very low at this point. And because I'm most worried about chromosomal issues (due to my history and age), I also try to remind myself that there's nothing I can do (besides the normal prenatal vitamin, etc) to change the outcome of this pregnancy. I think I'll feel much less anxious once we get our NIPT and NT results at the end of next week.
I will say that my OB asked about my anxiety (because of my loss history), and she offered that if I was having a hard time, I could call and come in for a quick heartbeat check. She was like, if you're here every day, we're going to have to talk about it, but I understand the anxiety before you feel the baby moving. I would definitely ask your OB for an extra ultrasound between your regular appointments.
ETA: My nausea got much better right around 9 weeks for a few days. It ended up coming back, but I was super nervous at my 9 week appointment because of it.

@karenbme: I second just asking them if you can check in with a doppler when you're in the office for the NIPT blood draw. The worst they can say is no, but my office was very accommodating with me (I had an anterior placenta during my first pregnancy, so I couldn't feel the baby moving until 20ish weeks and it had me SO stressed out. Every time I stopped in the office for a blood draw or urine test, the NP would do a quick doppler to reassure me.)

Also, my appetite has sky rocketed this past week - I swear I could 3,000 calories a day if I let myself! I need to tone it down, but my nausea is so much worse on an empty stomach, so I just keep grazing. ALL DAY LONG.

@raspberries: i'm exactly the same with my nausea. last pregnancy i basically gave up and ate exactly what i wanted and although i didn't gain an unreasonable amount of weight, i felt really tired through the pregnancy and i think diet was part of it. i'm trying so hard to be better this time, but it's hard!
i somehow miraculously got my NIPT results back after 4 days, and no issues!!! i'm thrilled. i told them not to tell me the gender because i wanted to check the online portal with DH (or at least with him on the phone) but now it's been like 18 hours and it still hasn't posted to the portal! so obviously i'm checking obsessively.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@nwm: mine never posted to the portal ever, just because of the way they report the results I think (from an outside laboratory, etc etc). I would just message the office through the portal and ask them to send you a message with the sex in it! Eek! Exciting! And how relieving that everything came back well!

Ok, I'm officially freaking out a little. I'm dying to call my OB to see if I can come in for a heartbeat check. I am trying to wait until tomorrow or Thursday so that at least it's a week since I saw her. That way it will be only another week until my NT scan (and then she won't think I'm a total nut). Talk me off a ledge please! (and she did offer that I could come in for extra checks, but I'm pretty sure she didn't mean after only a few days)
pear / 1930 posts
@Chuckles: I don't think it would do you much good to go in. You are early enough along that not finding a heartbeat even though there is one is common. If they couldn't find one, you would just be more freaking out.
persimmon / 1495 posts
@Ms. RV: oh, I'm 11 weeks today so I think it would be ok. But I kind of assumed that it would be an external ultrasound. I didn't consider that maybe she meant the Doppler.
clementine / 830 posts
@Chuckles: i know this isn't what you asked for, but i think if your doc offered it and you're really having a hard time you should go. (at this hour you'll probably have to hold out until tomorrow anyway (ETA--i realize this assumed you were on EST...maybe it's not too late for today!)) this is one of the hardest phases of pregnancy IMHO--later on you'll be able to move, drink cold, water, etc. and have a very physical reminder that the baby is still moving around in there, but for right now that's not an option. i sort of freaked out last night reading some SCH studies and sent my doc a bunch of questions about the specifics of what they saw on my last SCH ultrasound. she sent me back some reassurances but also said if i was feeling too anxious i could come in again. honestly that reassurance helped me just get my mind out of the rabbit hole a little and figure i can hold off til the NT scan. so i don't know if just reaching out to your doc for info or reassurance would help you at all, but if not i say no shame in going in tomorrow if you're still really feeling anxious.
@bees_knees: mine posted to the portal last pregnancy and that's how i found out! in fact my DD's results are just sitting there in the portal taunting me. anyway i still messaged them as you suggested so hoping to hear back. i have a feeling it's a boy, i guess we will see!
pear / 1930 posts
@Chuckles: 11 weeks is kind of early for a definite on doppler. My uneducated guess would be 80% chance of finding one, but I would hate to be in that 20%! My office always tells me not finding one at 14 weeks is when they worry.
persimmon / 1495 posts
@nwm: Thanks for your reply. That's exactly what my OB said - that once I feel movement, it will be much easier to stay calm about everything and that this period is the hardest time. Plus for me, once we hear that genetically the baby is okay, I think I'll be pretty much fine. So I'm hoping this will be a one-time thing (famous last words). Maybe I'll leave a message for the nurse this afternoon and see if I can come by tomorrow. I'm glad that your doctor was reassuring and it made you feel much calmer!
persimmon / 1495 posts
@nwm: How exciting that you got your NIPT results back already! Great news that everything is normal. It will be interesting to see if your intuition is right. With DS, I totally knew it was a boy, but this time I don't know for sure one way or the other.

@Chuckles: I’m so sorry for the anxiety. You should definitely call and go in tomorrow or Thursday just to ease your fears. ️
@nwm: I’m curious to see if your intuition is correct!
persimmon / 1495 posts
Thanks, all. I called the office and thought I'd just leave a message for the nurse. But when I explained that I was just nervous, repeat pregnancy loss, etc, and that the dr had said I could come in for a quick check, the woman was super nice and casual about it and made me an appointment for tomorrow morning. I feel much better already just knowing that I'll go in tomorrow.

@bees_knees: @Chuckles: @raspberries: Thanks, ladies. Sorry I posted and then bailed. I had a panic attack after work yesterday. I was shaking, crying sure the baby had/was going to die. DH was able to get me calmed down after a while and then I ate a little bit and took half a unisom and went straight to bed. I was able to get in with my therapist today, and that was a little helpful, but there’s not a whole lot I can do. At this point the only way out is through. I do think I’m going to call to see if they can do a quick appointment sometime soon. This is right about the time that we discovered the first baby had died. I was 10 weeks before I took the misoprostol with that and had no indications that anything was wrong other than the ultrasound, if anything my symptoms were worse then, so it’s just hard.
@Chuckles: Glad you were able to get in with your doctor. I’m so sorry about how you’re feeling, but totally understand and am right there with you. I hope everything looks good tomorrow.
@nwm: So glad everything looks good with your bean! Have your sex results posted yet?
persimmon / 1064 posts
@karenbme: Def call to get in for an appt. Totally understandable. Glad you were able to get in with your therapist today, take care of yourself!
@nwm: I’m dying to hear!

@karenbme: so sorry you're feeling this way, but of course it is understandable! really hope you can get in for a quick appointment.
@bees_knees: @karenbme: @lemonjack: i'm dying to hear too! no results yet i decided i'm calling the office first thing in the AM and sitting on hold till they get me some answers.

@karenbme: I’m so sorry. I’m glad you were able to get in with your therapist, and I hope your doctor is able to get you in for a scan ASAP.
@nwm: Congrats!! Super exciting, and your intuition was correct!

@nwm: Congratulations!! I hope you have some boy names in mind. They feel so much harder than girl names to me.
clementine / 830 posts
@LemonJack: thanks!! i know, ha, with my first i was sure it was a girl and i was wrong, so i guess those 50/50 odds were with me this time
@karenbme: thanks!! ugh, i KNOW, i had a girl name fully picked out that i was pretty sure i could get DH on board with, now i've been thrown into uncertainty. my DS1 is a IV, after my DH who is a III (a decision we were very ambivalent about) so we've been joking we should just name him the V, george foreman style. also all the nicknames for my DH/DS1's name are taken several times over in my DH's family so we were joking we could call the baby (Nickname) II for short. anyway--how are you doing today?

@nwm: Congratulations! That's so exciting!
@Chuckles: So glad your doctor is being accommodating. Fingers crossed for some reassuring news today.
@karenbme: Hope you're feeling a little bit better today!

@nwm: I was the same way! I was correct once, and totally wrong the second time.
And, the naming part is so hard!!
persimmon / 1064 posts
@nwm: yay! So exciting! Good luck on names....I’d have to agree that boy names are HARD.
I’m getting another ultrasound next Wednesday, as well as my NIPT drawn. I actually requested an ultrasound vs Doppler, since I’ll only be 10 weeks. I didn’t want to have to deal with any of the anxiety if they couldn’t find the HB via Doppler right away (been there, done that!) Excited to take another peek at the baby, and REALLY excited to find out the sex! @nwm: did you say you got a Panorama? That’s what I’m doing too...hopefully I get my results back as quickly as you did!!
persimmon / 1495 posts
I'll reply more to everyone later, but I got in for my ultrasound today. Baby is healthy! It's almost 2 inches long, crown to rump, which is crazy. And, the really fun thing is that she started doing some of the measurements that they will do next week for the NT scan, and that all looked good, too! She said that our risk for Down Syndrome or cardiac issues is extremely low based on the measurements, which is such a relief since I'm 39. So now I don't have to worry as much waiting for the Panorama results. I'm so glad I went in.

@Chuckles: YAY!! oh my gosh, so glad to hear all this news.
@LemonJack: so funny. plus with DD i truly had no intuition at all, it's so funny that i had such a sure feeling the other two times.
@bees_knees: no i got the MaterniT21, i think @Chuckles: got the Panorama. i do not know the difference but hope you get your results quickly!
persimmon / 1495 posts
@karenbme: How are you doing today? Were you able to get in touch with your doctor?
@nwm: Congrats! It's so fun when your intuition is right!
@bees_knees: I am doing the Panorama, too. My OB told me that it takes about 2 weeks from the blood draw for me to get a call from the office with the results. I did my blood draw on Thursday afternoon and got an email from the company on Monday saying that they had my sample. The email also said that they sent the results to the dr within 5-7 calendar days, so hopefully we'll get results back sooner than the full 2 weeks. I think it's one of the NIPT's that takes the longest, unfortunately.

Thanks, ladies. I’m trying to hold out on calling my doctor because the doctor didn’t offer anything additional last time, and I really don’t want them to label me as difficult and/or think I’m crying wolf. I am very close to buying a fetal Doppler. I wish I could get one in person or at least from Amazon instead of shady websites. My symptoms are still AWOL, except for a little nausea when I ate a couple bites of DH’s sausage this morning, and all of my pants still fit normally, so I really don’t know.
persimmon / 1419 posts
@bees_knees: That’s exciting that you’re going to get another look at the little one!
@Chuckles: That’s so great to hear! Hopefully you’ll get the NIPT results quickly so you can be 100% sure.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@karenbme: I don’t think you’d be labelled difficult. If you’re still having anxiety, you should call them. They are OBs, they get it! If they didn’t want to be “bothered”, they would have become dermatologists or something instead

@karenbme: Just dropping in to say I have this one from Groupon and it works great. I had a hard time finding somewhere to buy one too!

ETA - that link came through weird but just google “Groupon fetal Doppler” if it doesn’t work.

@skinnycow: Thanks for the recommendation. I went ahead and ordered one. Hopefully it gives me a little more peace of mind.
@bees_knees: Fair point. I guess I’d just really rather not go in especially if everything is fine. Hopefully once I’m out of the first trimester it’ll be less bad, but with everything that’s gone wrong there the OB’s office is just a stressful place for me. If I can do something to get some reassurance at home I’d rather do that.

@karenbme: Mine came quickly and helped me a lot. I hope it gives you some peace of mind!

@Chuckles: They do heart measurements during the NT scan? I never knew this!
persimmon / 1495 posts
@Ms. RV: I guess the same neck measurement in terms of thickness and fluid can suggest both chromosomal issues like Downs and also cardiac problems that aren't related to chromosomal abnormalities. So no actual heart measurements.

@Chuckles: did you sign up for the Natera portal? The website says results will post there so maybe you’d get your results quicker?
I used to work in a lab though and a lot of times doctor’s had to manually approve test results before they showed up in portals, so who knows 🤷♀️
