@bees_knees: I have three girls and I craved fresh veggies, mostly salads, during my pregnancies. Maybe it’s a girl?
I’m craving nothing but breakfast cereal and smoothies so maybe it’s a boy this time around.

@raspberries: sounds like we are exactly the same cycle wise, and i have had this issues with all three pregnancies now! i'm glad my doc recently revised from the LMP date to the sono date, especially since i tend to go late anyway. i bet your calculated date is the true due date

@rattles: so fun to have your littles get excited!! i think we are waiting at a minimum through the NIPT except for like two of my close friends.

@bees_knees: @Beebeeholiday: so jealous of those cravings ladies, lol! i basically just want carbs all the time.

@rattles: @Beebeeholiday: between you (well, this board) and I, I would LOVE a girl. I’ve never admitted that to anyone in real life besides DH because I know I would also be head over heels for another boy. But I think I’d really miss the experience of raising a girl.
@Beebeeholiday: I ate so. Much. Cereal. With DS1. And I couldn’t get enough chocolate milk Like I would wake up in the middle of the night and have to have some. He ended up being MSPI so I always joked he must have *really* been over all the milk
Maybe this one is a boy? I’d imagine you might feel similar to me about gender preference (but maybe not!)
@nwm: @Ms. RV: oh I was allll about the carbs with my other 3 pregnancies. It was literally all I could stomach. I admittedly eat pretty carb heavy anyways but yikes. Eat whatever you can handle, I say!
@Ms. RV: when do you have your follow up US? Hope it’s nothing!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, ladies! I came home from work, ate some pizza and cake, took a hot shower, and went right to bed. 🤷♀️ I’m old and pregnant. We went for a mellow hike with some friends today, but I wanted to avoid party situations because pretending to drink feels dumb to me and I’m not ready to tell everybody yet.
@nwm: @Ms. RV: @bees_knees: I’m not craving carbs, but they’re the only thing that really doesn’t make me sick it feels like the more nutritious the meal I eat is, the sicker I get, which is totally lame. I have been craving raspberries, which may fall in with @bees_knees: and @Beebeeholiday:’s veggie/salad girl cravings. I haven’t even told DH, but I’m really hoping for a girl. Don’t know why, and I’d be happy with a boy, but every time I picture it, it’s a girl.

@rattles: That’s adorable that your kiddos are excited. Can they keep a secret is really the question. When I was six I told the world about my little brother because I forgot it was supposed to be secret. Oops.

@nwm: @bees_knees: @Ms. RV: @karenbme: Apparently, this practice doesn't typically do a first trimester ultrasound if you don't have a history of loss or aren't actively experiencing anything worrisome, so I won't have a dating ultrasound. It seems weird to me because it's not what I'm used to (and admittedly, a part of me is a little sad because there's something magical about seeing my baby in there before I can actually feel them.) I'm trying not to be upset about it though - reminding myself it's a good thing there's nothing wrong that would make an ultrasound necessary. Besides, the nurse said they'll try to find a heartbeat via doppler at my next appointment (I'll be 10 weeks by my calculations, 11 by theirs) and if they can't find one, I'll be sent for an ultrasound at that point. I think that's right on the line of when you can hear anything from doppler, so maybe I'll still have a chance to get one.
Also, dannnng, the fatigue hit me heard today. I took two naps and I'm still ready for bed at 9PM.

One more thing - how are you guys handling Easter? My whole extended family gets together for a big meal and Easter egg hunt, and I'm pretty sure a combo of this bloating and not drinking will give me away. I really don't want to announce to everyone until after I get the NIPT results though!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@raspberries: I'm sorry you're not going to get to see your munchkin right away. There's definitely something reassuring about seeing them in there, but the heartbeat is really the important part. I'm right there with you on fatigue. I "stayed up" to watch game of thrones last night and could barely keep my eyes open. Unfortunately, I've got no advice on Easter. All of our family is ~3 hours away so we're not doing anything big. But maybe a flowy dress to cover bloating and seltzer with lime? Have you told your parents? It might help to have an ally if they're pouring mimosas or something they could forget to put champagne in yours.
clementine / 830 posts
@raspberries: i don't know if this is just because i think no one expects us to be pregnant again so fast, but for some reason i am way less concerned about being found out than prior pregnancies...and i'm really not ready to tell people. i also have a couple big family events, so i figure i'll just hold booze and take 1-2 sips and that's usually enough to deflect suspicion and no one notices if i then pour out or put down the rest of the drink and don't finish it.
definitely a good thing that nothing has necessitated an ultrasound yet, but i definitely hear you on it being comforting. hope you'll end up getting to have one next week! also, i feel like it's kind of crazy that the medical establishment still sticks to LMP dating as though our understanding of the whole process isn't advanced enough to understand (1) that many people's cycles are not exactly 28 days and (2) that many people actually know when they conceived. my practice was basically doing the same as yours, but it feels so antiquated to me!
persimmon / 1064 posts
@raspberries: I'm with @nwm: ...but I think it's just that I don't have the energy to hide a pregnancy. My US is Wednesday and as long as that goes ok we'll tell people openly.
I've also always told my primary support system (aka my immediate family and close friends) ASAP because they are people that I would want support from should we experience a loss.
persimmon / 1419 posts
@raspberries: @nwm: @bees_knees: I can see both sides of the hiding vs. not. There are some people that I've definitely needed with my losses--my best friend, my younger sister, parents--and they already know. But there are also people that when they have known have made it harder rather than easier. My older sister is, unfortunately, in this camp, so I can see being selective about telling if you're not sure it's going to work out even with family.
olive / 74 posts
@raspberries: I am telling my family on Easter! This is my fourth kiddo and I just can’t hide it much past 9 weeks! I’m usually in tight tops and leggings, and lately I’ve been covering up with big blousy tops and sweaters.
pear / 1930 posts
We are seeing both families this year for Easter (a first and probably last) so we will be letting both know. Plus being 11 weeks with #3 on a 5'2" frame it is really hard to hide.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@karenbme: Agreed. I’ve told my immediate family, other than my brother (only because he lives far away) and one friend, but no one else. We are keeping it from DH’s dad and his wife until after our genetic testing, and by default we are keeping it from most of his family because of that.
Literally no one suspects though. I think his whole side thought we were done after two, even though I’ve always been openly leaning toward three. Plus, because I’m a teacher, our other two babies were born at the end of the school year, so no one suspects a November baby. It’s been pretty great for hiding because of that alone.
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Beebeeholiday: @Ms. RV: I’m a little bit jealous. I feel like I’m not showing at all. My boobs are bigger, but there’s absolutely nothing going on with my belly. I am only 7+4 though and 5’11”, so that’s probably part of it, but with my first pregnancy my pants started to get tight around 8 weeks. It’s actually making me a little nervous. Although everything makes me nervous these days. 🤷♀️
pear / 1930 posts
@karenbme: I wouldn't worry. Bloat can just show up one day, which it probably will for you. I am also probably showing so much because I got pregnant 8 months after giving birth. I wasn't able to belly bind with DS so my abdominal muscles are still jelly.
pear / 1955 posts
@Ms. RV: Oh man, I'm also 5'2" and I'm down to two pairs of jeans that I can still get buttoned at almost 9 weeks. I have a feeling I'll be strictly in maternity wear by 11 weeks. Which reminds me that I need to go find that bin of maternity clothes that's in the basement somewhere, yikes.
@karenbme: I think most of my "bump" is really just bloat at this point. TMI, but the gas is baaaad.
And my current plan for Easter is to wear a flowy dress with a cardigan and show up with a couple bottles of wine, so hopefully no one will notice that I'm not actually drinking it, haha.
I was really hoping I would be able to announce on Easter, but I'm just not comfortable doing it without at least hearing/seeing the heartbeat first. I'm a little bit introverted and I think the only thing more awkward for me than making a big announcement about being pregnant would be contacting random family members to unmake the announcement, if that makes sense. I've already told my parents and best friends, who I'd rely on if the worst were to happen, but I think I'm just not the type of person to spread the news before I'm feeling pretty confident that nothing will happen.
persimmon / 1495 posts
We don't do anything big for Easter, but we see my family for Passover where there is a bunch of wine drinking. Most people there will know, but my brother and SIL don't yet. I'm hoping they just don't notice if I'm not drinking. There will be a lot going on.
I'm only 5'1" and definitely look a little pregnant unless I wear flowy shirts. So far I think I've been able to hide it pretty well, but I'm already totally rocking maternity jeans.
We've already told quite a few people, especially I think for having had a bunch of losses. Everyone that we've already told knows about most of the losses and we'd be ok with them knowing if it happened again (or they would just end up knowing - like my coworkers). But I'm waiting to tell our son and everyone else until we get the NIPT results back. I'm *dying* to tell DS, but I definitely couldn't handle un-telling him.
Also, I'm totally craving both fruit and carbs (especially bagels!). And most meat still sounds terrible. The other day I had a total craving for turkey jerky (probably because I need the protein). So I bought some at Target and then sat in my car eating it. And *then* I noticed a Steak and Shake in the same parking lot. So I got in line to get a milkshake while eating my jerky. Ridiculous pregnant lady moment.
Oh my goodness, this is so long. Sorry! Last thing - I had my last RE appointment today! I graduated to the regular OB. Saw the bean one more time at exactly 9 weeks and everything looks good.

@LemonJack: The one nice thing about a November due date and teaching is that we'll get to roll winter break into our maternity leaves and get an extra two weeks!
clementine / 830 posts
@Chuckles: yay! Such great news!!
Also carbs and fruit are totally where I’m at right now too. I don’t even want to tell you about the interaction I had with the airport diner guy when they refused to make me a breakfast burrito four minutes past the switchover from breakfast to lunch. I was both nauseous and hangry and I nearly cried. But I had a LOT of potato chips to make up for it. Ridiculous pregnant lady moments abound lol.

@nwm: I'm giggling about the breakfast burrito yesterday I had a craving for nachos from a specific restaurant and then remembered that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and I was so sad. And now of course today it doesn't sound especially appealing.

@Chuckles: Totally agreed on the extra time because of winter break!

Everything looks good! Measuring behind though, which I think this time just means that I had my dates a little off. The scan puts me at a due date of 12/2.
Heartbeat was 138!
Have two subchorionic hemorrhages to watch out for but no other points of concern.

@Chuckles: Congratulations! That’s such good news.
@Beebeeholiday: Congrats on the good ultrasound!
@Chuckles: @nwm: to your food moments. The closest I’ve come to ridiculous pregnancy eating is calling a slice of leftover birthday cake dinner because everything else in the fridge looked gross. I’m right there with you on chips, though. They are the MOST delicious thing right now, and if we kept them in the house I’d be in trouble. I also have a very specific craving for ripe from our bushes midsummer raspberries, but obviously it’s not July so I have to settle for store bought, which is not the same. In a couple months we’ll have more than we can pick though, and I’ll be able to go to town.

Had my scan today, one (thank God ) healthy babe! Measuring at 7+2, which is one day ahead of my dates but way behind according to LMP...due date of 12/2 but I hope I can still hang out here with you guys

I had my dating ultrasound today and everything looks good! I was estimating a due date of 11/23, and they estimated 11/24, so it’ll stay the same. I’ve had so much less nausea this time around that I haven’t let myself get too excited yet, but seeing the baby and heartbeat was pretty amazing! ️ We’ll still wait to share the news with most people until after the NIPT testing, but it’s getting real!

@bees_knees: @Beebeeholiday: Congrats on healthy scans! How funny you’re both having #4 and have the same due date.
.@karenbme: Cake sounds delicious right about now.

@bees_knees: @LemonJack: hooray for the good scans!! December mamas should def stick around here—we can all keep each other company when I go six days late again.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@LemonJack: I totally get what you mean...it’s like you kind of protect your heart a little bit until you can breathe a sigh of relief! Congrats on the good scan!
@nwm: aw man. Every day past your due date is an eternityyyyy!! I was 2 days over with DS1 and got induced at 40+2 with DS2. Both were awful awful awful deliveries so I chose to get induced at 39 weeks with DS3. I don’t know if that’s what made the difference, but my recovery was 100x better! I will do the same for this baby (I’m actually already eyeing 11/29...then our kids’ birthdays will be on the 23rd/25th/27th/29th of their respective month )

@nwm: @bees_knees: Being overdue is the worst! I was only three days overdue with my first, but coworkers started making comments about how late I was a couple WEEKS before my due date.

Is anyone else going to buy a new vehicle? We’ll need to buy a van. We can’t fit three in our current vehicles. I’m leaning toward the Odyssey for reliability and resale value, and I don’t care that there are millions of them on the road. We have friends who recently bought a Pacifica plug in which seems really cool, but the back seat looks a little small to me, and I know we’d want as much space as possible since we would be bringing along friends and relatives a lot, especially as our kids get older.
