@LemonJack: @bees_knees: tell me about it. i thought going late with the first would prepare me to go late with the second but it was even worse. i know someone who went to 42 weeks with all three of her kids though which just sounds so brutal.
@LemonJack: we definitely are gonna need a new car. i started this post and got a bunch of helpful responses if you're interested, although it's SUV-focused and not van. https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/recommend-me-your-three-row-suv

@nwm: 42 weeks with all of them sounds like torture. My second arrived on her due date, so she was punctual at least.
@nwm: I think we are firmly in the van camp for now. Where we are in the ‘burbs, it’ll just be easiest at this point in our lives.

@LemonJack: We bought an Oddysey in August since we'd been planning on a third, and I love it! It took a little getting used to driving a bigger vehicle, but it's so dang convenient, I don't think I could go back now.

@LemonJack: we’ve had an Odyssey since 2015. I originally wanted a 3-row SUV, and it felt like I could make one work. But I LOVE that the van is built for this stage of life with nothing needing to be worked with/around. The car seats fit, the kids can get themselves in, no one is dinging up other cars with their doors, there’s tons of cargo space... I really couldn’t be happier with it.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@raspberries: @rattles: Good to know you love it! What features do you have and like? We’re likely going used, but are still trying to come up with a list of features we want.
@rattles: I do like how easy it would be for our oldest to get out by herself, especially in the drop off line at school. I also love the space. We take lots of weekend/long weekend trips, as well as some longer ones in the summer, and I love the amount of space they have!

@LemonJack: Pretty much the only non-negotiable for me was side doors that auto-open - both of my kids quickly figured out how to climb in and up to their seat, so I can hit the door open button on the porch, then they go get in and all I have to do is buckle them into their car seats.
Other than that, we have heated seats, seats that flip down and slide around really easily, and cruise control/lane assist, etc. It'd be nice to have a trunk that can auto-open as well but that was the next price level up and wasn't really worth an additional few thousand to me.
pear / 1955 posts
@LemonJack: Also, we looked at a few used models, and the prices were so high it made more sense to just buy new. We found a used Sienna with 42K miles on it and the seller wouldn't go lower than $28K - it was literally only $3K more to buy ours brand new.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@raspberries: Good to know about the pricing on new vs used. Also, I agree that I want to be able to remotely open the doors.

@LemonJack: OH is trying to convince me I want a Mercedes Metris or a Ford Expedition. Neither of which will fit in our garage... and the Metris doesn't come with 4WD/AWD which I really need. I am going to try to stay with my current vehicle (Subaru Outback) until DD is in kindergarten (two years) so daycare is less expensive. Luckily, OH has a full size truck that we can easily fit three across in. I am just so glad there is only one inside of me or we wouldn't have a choice!!

How was everyone's weekend? Did people manage to keep things quiet or did you end up telling family? A bunch of people in my family were sick this weekend, so we only ended up seeing my uncle for Passover. I'm pretty sure he was totally oblivious to my bump/bloat and non-drinking.
pear / 1930 posts
I felt like crap after breakfast on Friday and then ended up getting a migraine Saturday morning. Almost cancelled seeing my family that day. Then when I woke up today, I had a migraine on the other side and almost cancelled with OH's family. To be honest the only reason why I didn't is because OH told me that Easter brunch where we went is the best brunch of the year, and we never see his family for Easter. I should have cancelled. It wasn't that good. Now I am debating calling my OB office tomorrow if I still feel like crap because migraines are normal for me but not to this extent. And my (non-OB) nurse sister freaked me out saying that a headache plus bad kidneys could.mean preeclampsia!
@Chuckles: Sounds like you had an easy time keeping things under wraps!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Chuckles: Sounds like it worked out alright to have a mellow Passover. We don’t have any local family, so it was pretty easy to keep our secret.
@Ms. RV: Sorry to hear about your migraines. I had one around 5 weeks and my OB said not to worry, so hopefully everything is fine with yours as well. She said that my migraines might get worse, but it’s usually not connected to anything bad, and is thought to be due to changing blood volume.
I had a really good weekend, for the first time in a month I didn’t have to work or go out of town, so it was really nice to be home. It was gorgeous here today so I spent my morning in the garden and then napped in the afternoon. We’ve got our first normal appointment tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed everything still looks good.
clementine / 830 posts
@Chuckles: not only did no one seem to notice anything at all going on with me/comment on my non-drinking (and we saw basically our entire families on both sides), but my in-laws were commenting about how there would be no one left for hand-me-downs after my 9 mo DD (my kids are the youngest two of their 8 grandkids so there have been many hand me downs). i think people are going to be legitimately shocked when we share the news. hopefully they will also be supportive.
@Ms. RV: sorry about the migraine, they are so brutal!
@karenbme: glad you had such a great weekend, and hope you have a great appointment today!

Everything looked good at the doctor. Baby's still tracking about 2 days ahead. Heart rate was all the way up at 191, but the doctor didn't seem worried, and baby was moving around on the ultrasound, so hopefully it's fine. Fingers crossed this is my last time seeing them for a while.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@Chuckles: we were with my family, and they already know Glad no one picked up on your secret!
@Ms. RV: sorry about the migraines. You probably can’t even take anything good for them either huh
@nwm: they’re going to be in for a shock when you announce!
@karenbme: glad you had a great appt! I wonder if I’ll get another US at my next appt? I’ll only be 10 weeks so kind of iffy to find the HB with a Doppler. Kind of hoping I can sneak another peek, although they couldn’t find DS2’s HB via Doppler at my 12 week appt with him and it was soooo stressful. Ended up being fine, he was just hiding 🙄
Nausea hit me like a freight truck last week. I’m still throwing everything at it...B6/Unisom seems to take the edge off, but I feel like my three doses a day aren’t enough. I think I’ll add in a morning dose too. I mean I’m already tired 24/7, what’s a little more unisom going to do

@karenbme: hooray! I am so glad the appointment went well!
I had my first appointment and ultrasound today, and baby looks wonderful. We brought the kids, and they were so excited to see and to hear his/her heartbeat! My doc is referring me to back to the MFM for my anatomy scan, based on my history, but everything looks good so far!
pear / 1930 posts
@karenbme: So glad everything went well!
@bees_knees: I can take Tylenol which does nothing unless I take it the moment it starts. I called off work today and spent the day in bed except for my kidney ultrasound and I am starting to feel human again.
@rattles: So great to hear!
pear / 1930 posts
I don't have any more information on my kidneys (test results should come online overnight) but the sonographer took a quick peak at the baby just for fun and it looked like it was almost doing log rolls!
This is probably TMI but I wonder if I am just not peeing enough and that is causing problems. It wasn't until about 8 weeks postpartum (so just over 8 months ago) that I felt any urge to pee. Even now, I never have very strong urges. Maybe I am just constantly holding my pee and don't know it!

@karenbme: Great news!
@rattles: How fun that your kiddos came to the appointment! I'm so excited to bring our DS to one.
@Ms. RV: Glad you're starting to feel a little better. Hopefully you'll get some good news about the kidney results soon.
@nwm: I'm sure your family will be super excited when they find out.
@bees_knees: Sorry to hear about the nausea. How many weeks are you now?
pear / 1930 posts
I actually got my results early! My left kidney is normal, right is still enlarged. OB seems to think my uterus might be pushing on the ureta and that I won't need to follow up on it until after delivery or if I have back pain. Big relief!!!
persimmon / 1064 posts
@Ms. RV: Great news!!
@rattles: Congrats on the good appt! I may have missed this earlier, but what history do you have to be referred to the MFM? Glad everything is looking well so far, it's so fun to see the kiddos excited, too!
@Chuckles: 8 weeks today. Expecting it to get worse before it gets better DH is leaving for 3 nights for a work trip tomorrow, so I'm suuuuper looking forward to the solo parenting (not). I was sick until 18-20 weeks with my previous pregnancies, so unfortunately I think it's around for the long haul. Boo.
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@Ms. RV: oh what good news! I’m glad to hear it and glad you didn’t have to wait for results!
@bees_knees: I had several complications with my third (DS) that sent me to an MFM after my anatomy scan. He has a congenital kidney defect (multicystic kidney dysplasia - he only has one functional kidney). During the pregnancy, I had a cord defect (single umbilical artery) that put me at risk for IUGR/preterm delivery, and he had several other markers that made them worried about T18 and Pierre Robin Syndrome when he was in utero. We feel super lucky because he’s totally perfect (other than his bum kidney), and he’s been totally asymptomatic so far. But that plus the fact that I’m now AMA means they’re being cautious, I guess. I hope your nausea wanes soon. I was sick for most of my second pregnancy, and it is SO HARD!

@karenbme: @rattles: congratulations on the great appointments ladies! such good news!!
@bees_knees: ugh, so sorry about the nausea and solo parenting three!!! do you have some local help that can come spell you on occasion? you are a rock star. hope the nausea lets up earlier this time.
@Ms. RV: such great news about your kidney! phew.
i have been feeling good and no more bleeding, although have had a small amount of brown spotting for the last day or two. at this point that isn't even phasing me. counting down til my appointment thursday and really hoping i can get off pelvic rest and back to running! thursday they will do the blood draw for my NIPT test as well, so things are getting real.
clementine / 830 posts
by the way, anyone contemplating anything creative to tell your families (or have done anything that went over really well in the past)? we told everyone about DD around christmas last year, so put DS in a cute little santa shirt that said "santa is bringing me a little sister" or something like that. easter was too soon for us to announce this time but not sure what the next opportunity might be.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@rattles: oh man, I bet that was so scary for awhile! So glad that your DS “only” has the kidney issue. No harm in being cautious this time around
@nwm: yes my parent live within an hour so we will probably spend a day out there! Thursday is close, hope they can give you the all clear to get off of pelvic rest. And your NIPT already! Exciting!
We...didn’t tell anyone very creatively poor 4th babies. Although everyone was all “I KNEW IT!”...I’m like “did you actually know it? Or is it just because we have another baby every 19-24 months and the timing is right?” 🤣
persimmon / 1419 posts
@bees_knees: @Ms. RV: @Chuckles: @nwm: Thanks, ladies!
@bees_knees: Sorry to hear about your nausea. I wish I had something to suggest, but I'm sure you know it all at this point. Idk if you'll have an ultrasound next time. That was technically my "new" OB appointment yesterday (all the other appointments were because of things that have gone wrong in the past or because I was bleeding). Unless something else goes wrong I won't have another until 20 weeks.
@rattles: How fun to bring your littles! Sounds like they're ready for number 4, too. I'm also going to MFM for my anatomy scan because I'm 35 now and have had multiple losses. I'm kind of bummed because at my practice the doctors do the normal ultrasounds and they narrate as they go usually vs. the referral where it will be a tech and then I'll get a call 1-2 days later to talk about the results.
@Ms. RV: That's great that your kidneys are ok! Glad to hear it's not pre-eclampsia this early. Also I meant to say, my doctor recommends excedrin tension headache (which is tylenol + some caffeine) for migraines during pregnancy. Idk if it would help you more than just regular tylenol, but maybe?
@nwm: That's great news! They took me off pelvic rest for the bleeding yesterday, so hopefully they'll do the same for you. I have no creative ideas for an announcement. I wish I were the type of person that thought like that, but I'm just not. Plus most of the people I'm close with know that this is my fourth pregnancy so an announcement that isn't immediately followed with "and we're 12/13 weeks" will probably just create more stress than anything else.
pear / 1930 posts
@karenbme: I never heard of Excedrin Tension Headache before! It looks perfect... just like Excedrin Migraine (what I take while not pregnant) but without aspirin. A million thanks!!!!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Ms. RV: Glad I could help. I have no idea how effective it is, but it’s gotta be better than nothing.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@karenbme: yeah typically my OB will just do an initial dating scan and then nothing until the anatomy scan (unless you opt for an NT scan I guess)....but since my next appt is at 10 weeks, I’m almost hoping they won’t be able to get the HB with the Doppler yet so I can take another peek
persimmon / 1495 posts
@nwm: For telling families... the way we told my parents was to invite them over for dinner. And then I told them I was cooking something and had them look in the oven. I had put a hamburger "bun in the oven." Because they were obsessed with the idea of grandkids, I assumed they would figure it out right away, but it took awhile for them to get it
I had my first regular OB appointment today. Baby looks great. Heartbeat was 160-something. And I am getting my blood drawn this afternoon for the NIPT. I can't wait to get those results back so that we can start telling everyone.
Also, cute or weird? Apparently my RE and OB know each other somewhat. And my RE was so excited that I am having a healthy pregnancy that she texted my OB a couple of weeks ago to tell her I had released my info to the OB's office, so it's not like there's a confidentiality issue. It's just kind of funny.

@Chuckles: great news on the appointment!
i had my appt and NIPT blood draw and NT finger prick as well today. the great news is that baby was growing a day or two ahead and had a strong heartbeat. less great news is that my SCH had grown so my doctor said continued pelvic rest and avoid literally anything at all strenuous until it resolves. the good news is that since i've been seeing brown spotting and not red blood, that should be a sign that it's starting to resolve/work its way out. i feel a little nervous about it continuing/growing, but very glad the little one seems to be chilling in there unaffected so far. my doctor was like, don't google this situation and i was like, too late! ha.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@karenbme: I was just reading through and saw your suggestion about Excedrin Tension Headache. I’ve never heard of this, so THANK YOU! Tylenol does nothing for me whenever I get a headache.
persimmon / 1130 posts
@Chuckles: Exciting news on getting the NIPT done! How long did they say it’ll take to get results?
persimmon / 1130 posts
@nwm: Glad to hear things are going a little better, but it still has to be frustrating to have some spotting/bleeding. It’s always way too hard NOT to google something!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@Chuckles: Congratulations on the good appointment! That’s funny about your doctors. I’m not sure how I would feel if it were me either.
@nwm: Glad to hear that your little one is growing normally despite the SCH. I’m sorry you still have to deal with pelvic rest. If you do have to google at least stick to reputable research—NIH/pubmed/others like that.

@LemonJack: They said it would take 2 weeks. I had read older threads about it, and there seemed to be a bit of a range, so I was hoping for less time. Oh well.
clementine / 830 posts
@Chuckles: which version of the test are you doing? my docs do MaterniT21 and they said it would take 10 days, but also said if i'm lucky i'd have it by the end of next week. definitely counting down the days!
persimmon / 1495 posts
@nwm: I'm doing the Panorama. I also had to bring a kit to our hospital lab to get blood drawn and sent out. I was hoping she said 2 weeks just so I didn't get antsy but that it might come back earlier. Did they mean 10 days total or 10 business days?
clementine / 830 posts
@Chuckles: yeah they always tell me 10 days (total not just business--except that i don't think they send out results on weekends) but i am pretty sure if i remember correctly that i've gotten it at about 8 days after i had my blood drawn the last two times. hopefully you will also get it a little earlier!
persimmon / 1419 posts
How’s everybody doing? My nausea is getting better the past few days, which is making me paranoid since I’m only 9 1/2 weeks. The fatigue is still really strong, though, so hopefully everything’s still good. I’m also trying really hard to resist the urge to get a fetal doppler to check in on baby from time to time. If I could find a heartbeat it would be really reassuring, but I’m not a doctor and if I couldn’t find a heartbeat I’d probably stress myself out potentially over nothing. My next appointment isn’t until May 22, so idk if I’ll be able to hold out that long without knowing. I have my genetic testing blood draw May 10, but that’s just a nurse visit so I probably won’t be able to convince them to Doppler me then.
