I had my first appt today. I am getting an U/S on Thursday because they couldn't find a heartbeat, but at only 9w3d I really wasn't expecting one.

I had my first appointment today. I need to choose a new doctor, as my last OB no longer is seeing regular patients, she is only consulting with high risk patients and delivering the highest risk moms/babies (very pre term, triplets, etc.). So, I need to decide if I want an OB again or a midwife. Pros and cons with each one! I wish I could speed date all the practitioners in my practice to see which one I like best, haha! The midwife I saw today was very nice, but I am not sure I will continue seeing her long term.

Anyway, it was just a urine sample "confirmation appointment" and it came back positive (lol not like I haven't done that three times at home already). She scheduled me for my dating ultrasound on the 16th, which is a week from today. I was supposed to get labs done (HCG as well as my prenatal panel), but I was shaking too much from not having yet eaten, so she asked me to come back. I guess I will try again tomorrow with some food in my stomach.

Still no nausea and nothing but period-like cramping as far as symptoms go, but cramping is a pretty regular first trimester norm for me.

@Beebeeholiday: are you in the US? I’ve never had to do a confirmation at the doctor like that! Haha Like yes, I’ve peed on enough sticks at home thankyouverymuch 😂

@Ms. RV: yeah that is really early for a Doppler! GL at your US tomorrow!

@Chuckles: look at that little gummy bear 😍

@Chuckles: Oh wow! I don't think I have ever seen an U/S that early that was more than just a blob. Isn't amazing how quickly they look like little humans?

@nwm: @bees_knees: @karenbme: @Ms. RV: Thanks, everyone! I'm starting to feel a little confident that this might actually be it. @Ms. RV: I was surprised, too. I think we got just the right angle.

@nwm: So question about your bleeding... I started bleeding bright red at about 3:00, and it seemed like a lot of blood initially, but it tapered down to spotting almost immediately. I had about 15 minutes of cramping. I haven’t passed any tissue, and I have an appointment tomorrow. I’m just wondering what “actively bleeding” was for you. I’m trying not to stress myself more than I already am, and hoping everything is still ok. A fourth loss would be devastating and probably the last time I would try.

@karenbme: oh gosh I am really sorry to hear that! It sounds like I had even more than you did. At the risk of TMI, it was like a pretty heavy day on my period, but with no clots. I fully ruined a pair of undies and used two pads before I even got to the doctor. It took probably four to six hours for it to taper and I’m still seeing some modest spotting.

@nwm: Thanks, that’s reassuring. I’m definitely not bleeding that badly, but it was so scary to feel myself start to bleed. I just hope our little one is ok 🤞🤞🤞

@karenbme: fingers very crossed!!!! Sounds from this board like sch is actually pretty common and I bet there can be lots of reasons to see a small amount of blood like that. When I mentioned the bright red spotting last time my doc was basically like, meh first trimester spotting is just so common.

@karenbme: With my first, I had some short bleeding and they could never determine the cause. If you are brave, you could poke to see of you have a friable (or otherwise inflamed) cervix. That is a common source of bleeding too.

@Ms. RV: Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m a little less worried than I was earlier. It seems like it is mostly over, but I’m definitely still going in tomorrow. This whole thing is impossible.

I have my dating ultrasound next week, when I should be about 8.5 weeks. I was supposed to have it this week, but I had to reschedule. I still feel much less nausea than I did with my first two pregnancies, which made me nervous initially, but exhaustion has hit me hard this week.

Ultrasound was great this morning. Baby was measuring well (I didn't see the age, but it will show up on the online results) and had a heartbeat of 171. I wonder if that is related to the coffee I had after DS woke up at 3:20 this morning refusing to go back to sleep

@nwm: I go in at 2:00. No red bleeding since ~8 last night, so fingers crossed that everything is ok. I'm on edge, but probably not much more than I already was. Thanks for checking in.

@Ms. RV: I remember when I was pregnant with my first and I didn't drink caffeine. Now I'm like...GIVE. ME. THE. COFFEE. I literally can't function without it Congrats on the awesome US!

@karenbme: GL! Hope it was nothing! Blood is so scary though...I wish you could just have a nice easy 9 months, it's not fair with your history!

@nwm: @bees_knees: @LemonJack: It’s good news. 😃 Baby is still right on in terms of growth with a nice strong heart rate. The doctor didn’t see any additional bleeding in my uterus either so hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here. They did make get a rhogam shot, but if that’s my biggest problem I’m doing ok. 😃

Thanks, Ladies! It was a big relief. Especially since tomorrow’s my birthday...

@Ms. RV: @bees_knees: I’m so jealous of your coffee drinking. I would totally drink it, but it’s my biggest aversion. Sometimes I fantasize about how much easier the fatigue would be with a cup of coffee every now and then.

So glad everyone's appointments are going well! And @Chuckles: , what an awesome ultrasound shot!

I had my first appointment today, but it was just an intake appointment. They calculated my due date by my last period, so it's a week earlier than the date I was using (my cycles are 34 days long, and I was tracking ovulation, so I'm prettttty sure it's the date I was using, but oh well.) I scheduled my NIPT testing for three weeks from today though, so I'm super excited for that!

@karenbme: It is funny, I used to use soda for my caffiene and now I can't stand the stuff!

@raspberries: Are you going to get a dating ultrasound?

  35. Ms. RV

    pear / 1930 posts

Got the ultrasound report this morning, baby is measuring a day behind which is nothing to worry about but is weird because usually I get a BFP 10dpo and this time it was 11dpo.

Also, apparently I have bilateral hydronephrosis so I have to go to get a non-OB ultrasound now t determine the cause.

    persimmon / 1419 posts

@raspberries: Thanks! I'm sorry your due date's a little fuzzy, but I'm sure once you get an ultrasound they'll have a better idea.

@Ms. RV: Soda's a good suggestion that I hadn't even thought of (I've never really been a soda drinker). I had been drinking some tea, but it's just not the same. I wouldn't worry about 1 day difference. At this point they're so tiny that a day or two in either direction is within the margin of error. I hope your kidneys are OK, though.

Got my lab results back and my HCG is 35,121. That's reassuring, but I am anxious to get another draw in 48 hours to make sure it's doubling. Ultrasound on Tuesday!

  38. karenbme

    persimmon / 1419 posts

@Beebeeholiday: That's a great number! Just be aware that when the numbers get bigger the level rises more slowly. When my level was ~2600 earlier this pregnancy the doc said that she would start looking for doubling every 72 hours at 3,000. I don't know how quickly it should be rising at 35,000, but try not to worry if it's not 70,000 in two days. And good luck with your US!

  39. bees_knees

    persimmon / 1064 posts

@Beebeeholiday: I came here to comment about HCG not doubling once it reaches a certain threshold, but @karenbme: beat me to it

    @karenbme: Happy birthday!

@raspberries: Are you getting a dating US? Due dates just seem like a stab in the dark I'm anxious to see what they set mine at because my LMP and my O date are waaaaay different!

I told my BFF that I think something is wrong with the baby...the only thing I'm craving right now is salad? Which is the opposite of all of my pregnancies! (caaaaarbs and sweets were all I could handle!) So weird.

@Beebeeholiday: that level is perfect for our due date! Agreed about doubling, but hopefully it’ll go up enough for you to feel confident.

@bees_knees: my uncle is a neonatologist, and he swears that craving fruits/veggies means girl more often than not. Seems like another old wives tale to me, but fwiw

    @karenbme: happy birthday!

I’m getting annoyed by how late my first appointment is. I really wanted to wait until we’d seen a heartbeat to tell people, but it’s becoming obvious to anyone paying attention. We ended up telling our kids and DH’s parents after DD and my MIL both (separately) asked point blank. On the upside, the kids were so, so cute and excited!
