@bees_knees: If I could make it through a healthy pregnancy with minimal nausea I’d be thrilled! It does make me a little nervous though. And people are so rude about the gender thing! We have two girls and I am bracing myself for people asking if we are “going for a boy”. Nope. I always wanted three, and we couldn’t care less about what we have.

I have been lurking for a couple of weeks, but my betas have looked good, so even though I feel nervous, now is as good a time as any to join you ladies!
Location: Texas
EDD: 11/27
How far along: 5+5
First child? 4th (Dec. ‘12, Nov. ‘14 and May ‘17)
First doctor appointment: 4/22
Any symptoms so far? Just exhausted! I’ve definitely been having weird/vivid dreams too.
Who have you told? Only DH and my best friend. All of my family was in town this weekend, but I was hosting a bridal shower for my sister Saturday and had a baby shower for my brother/SIL Sunday. It felt thunder-stealy to announce on one of those days. Plus our parents blabbed early the last couple of pregnancies, so I’m hoping to wait until after my ultrasound. I wish it was earlier because I think I’ll be showing by then!

Soo much cramping/bloating/abdomen discomfort, but surprisingly little nausea so far. Honestly, I'd much rather have these random twinges and discomfort over nausea, so I'm hoping it stays like this! My first appointment isn't until 4/11, so just hanging out in limbo until then - I honestly forget I'm pregnant most of the time.

@rattles: Welcome!
@raspberries: That’s great that you can forget you’re pregnant. Hopefully it’ll make the time move faster before your appointment.

@rattles: yay! Another mama due with #4 (are we insane? I feel insane) Welcome!

@nwm: @raspberries: @karenbme: thanks, ladies! I’m excited to be here!
@bees_knees: We might be DH and I both come from big families though (I’m the oldest of 5 and he’s the baby of 4), and we’ve always just felt like we would end up with four. I’m a little nervous about it, but this is the first time that I’ve felt peace, like “finally, everyone is (almost) here!”

Ok, ladies, I need nausea remedies. What’s worked for all you veterans? My nausea is mostly after eating, especially when I eat protein. I’ve tried eating small meals, for example dinner tonight was one barbecue chicken thigh and a slice of bread, and I’ve been regretting that for two and a half hours now. Anyone have any ideas? Ginger tea helps some, but I feel like I need something stronger.

@karenbme: ugh. I'm sorry.here are a bunch of random ideas:
-Eat small meals
-keep lemon slices to suck on
-grab candied ginger at a "health food" store. Not ginger candy, but straight up ginger with sugar on it
-carry peppermint essential oil around to sniff
sniff
-I had to give up dairy because in pregnancy it gave me a stupid amount of post nasal drainage that made me nauseous.
-Altoids. Peppermint, but they also make ginger if you could find those
-sea bands to push on your pressure points
-vitamin b + unison
unison
-I couldn't drink much water at meals, it was too much in my stomach. Focused on hydration outside of meals
ETA: sorry...see you're already tackled small meals! Maybe try different proteins like eggs and peanut butter, see if they settle better?

So my brown discharge has turned to bright red today. I have consultants in town for the day...will it change anything if I go to the doctor tomorrow instead of today? All my coworkers are going to know something is up if I jump ship and dont say it's a sick kid or something... I know this is a weird question. Maybe I'm sticking my head in the sand.

@SweetCaroline: @Ms. RV: Thanks! I feel like I've been using a lot of what's on the lists here over the past week or so, but it got a lot worse over the weekend... I ordered a sea band from Amazon last night, so that should be here soon, but even this morning I had an English muffin for breakfast and can't handle it. It may just be that I give up on a balanced diet for the next six weeks and eat what I can when I can...
@SweetCaroline: What my doctor said when I was spotting was that if it turned heavier and/or bright red to either call them if it was during the week or go to the ER if it was off hours and they'd check to make sure my cervix was still closed, but if it were going to be another miscarriage there's not a lot that they could do. I don't know if that makes your decision any easier. I know with each of my losses most of the people I work closely with have known because I've needed time both for medical procedures and grief. It may help to tell someone you trust at work who could cover for you and go in to get checked. Or if you'd rather not tell and think you'll only need the day you could always say you ate some bad clams/street meat/etc. and can't come in because you're sick. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

@SweetCaroline: I would still call your doctor today and see what they say. Bleeding can be a sign of an ectopic, so I would be hesitant to wait.

@karenbme: I pretty much just subsisted on carbs until about 11 weeks when I had really bad morning sickness. I could get by with some veggie soup and thick bread for dinner some nights, but honestly, eat what you can. (I kept a pouch of saltine crackers in my purse for probably three months, because that's the only thing that would settle my stomach a little bit.)

@SweetCaroline: I'd call your doctor when you have a free minute and see what they say. Almost the exact same thing happened to me last time and it ended up being an SCH, which didn't affect the baby at all. Fingers crossed everything's alright!

@karenbme: honestly, not much worked for me during the pregnancy where I had really bad nausea, not even Zofran. I do think keeping something mild in my stomach (saltines) and a B6/unison regime helped in the pregnancies where it was less awful.
@SweetCaroline: I would go in. I’m sorry for the stress and worry!

@SweetCaroline: oh man, i feel for you. i had a couple bright red spots, but they've since returned to brown and mostly tapered off. i've been figuring there's nothing the doctors can do anyway so i haven't moved up my friday appointment on the theory that the longer i wait the more they'll know at the appointment anyway. all these other comments are making me second guess that decision! but that was my thinking. fx for you (and for both of us)!

@nwm: @rattles: @raspberries: @Ms. RV: @karenbme: Thank you for sharing your opinions and thoughts. I appreciate the encouragement. Doc wants me to stop at a lab and see what my HCG level is...we won't get the results until tomorrow either way, so I'll go toward the end of the day.

@Chuckles: do you have a US today? hope it goes great!
@SweetCaroline: that makes sense--good luck!!!
persimmon / 1419 posts
@SweetCaroline: Hopefully the level comes back nice and strong. Fingers crossed for you.
@nwm: If you have an appointment on Friday anyways you're probably fine. Either way there isn't a whole lot they can do, and you'll have more info at that point than you would today. Fx that everything is alright in there though.

@LemonJack: and @bees_knees: Glad you both are doing well and not having too much nausea. Mine has also been pretty mild, just a little gagging at weird smells and after eating.
@rattles: Welcome! I don't know how you're keeping up with 3 little ones with pregnancy exhaustion.
@karenbme: Sorry that nausea is hitting you after eating. I'm having the same thing, but it sounds like it's not so bad compared to yours. Though I did tell DH that I'm only going to be able to eat each dinner once because every time I eat, I get a new food aversion to whatever it just was. But it's a good sign, right?!
@SweetCaroline: So sorry that you're having this stress. I would go in, too, just for peace of mind. I hope it's just normal spotting!
I had my ultrasound today at 7+1 and we saw a heartbeat! It was 145, so everything looks good so far. I think I'm a bit in shock at this point. I have 2 more weeks of ultrasounds with the RE before I'm released to my regular OB.

@Chuckles: Congratulations! I’m so happy that everything looked good today! And thanks for the sympathy. I totally said to DH last night that I would be happy if I weren’t so miserable. I’m hungry and everything tastes/smells good I just feel like I need to lay on the couch with a bucket for like 3 hours after every time I eat. 🤦♀️

@nwm: I hope your spotting is just normal, no big deal spotting. It's a great sign that it's tapering off and back to brown.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@karenbme: Honestly...nothing helped my extreme nausea (and I had it bad until 18-20 weeks with all three previous pregnancies ). This pregnancy has been the best of the 4, BUT I am only 5-6 weeks so...not counting my blessings quite yet. I have been taking Pink Stork probiotics/gut health/magnesium spray but I don't know if that is helping any or if I'm just early still. I tried EVERYTHING and nothing helped. B6/Unisom took the edge off...barely. And yeah, definitely just eat what you can. My OB told me the baby is getting everything it needs from my reserves. There is actually research that says women in cultures that have diets high in carbohydrates have less morning sickness--carbs are def all I could handle, so that makes sense to me!
@SweetCaroline: @nwm: Hope it's all just normal spotting. Blood is so scary, even when it's "normal"!
@Chuckles: Congrats on the healthy heartbeat! I bet that is such a relief for you!

HCG came back at 16,200, I'm 8 weeks 6 days. What do you guys make of that? Seems like it's in the range, on the low side. My understanding is that it's really the pattern in which it increases that is telling. I have an ultrasound in 30 minutes. We shall see.

@SweetCaroline: If your doctor doesn't seem worried, I wouldn't worry. Fingers crossed everything went well with your ultrasound.

Baby was measuring 6 weeks (should be almost 9) and no heartbeat. Now starts the waiting game. So many feels. First and foremost I'm glad this happened before we told DD.
I'll hold you all in my heart! I wish you all happy and healthy pregnancies.
