How is everyone doing? Anyone crawling yet?? I feel like a bunch of Oct babies are right on the verge!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
L crawled backward this past week, so that was exciting! She also sprouted her first tooth yesterday. We are in Vermont for a long weekend trip so we are going to take her hiking and also take her into the hotel's pool to see if she likes it. She is sleeping now and we are drinking some wine and take out. Hope everyone is doing well!

Little Miss Miss is up and rocking. She kinda crawls backward. I don't think crawling is her thing though. She's way more into standing and pseudo walking.
squash / 13764 posts
@SleepyMonkey: wow teeth! and she's on the move, yay! Enjoy VT, I bet it's pretty up there. @katsupgirl: yeah, my LO loves to stand also...these kids are getting ahead of themselves!
Is my guy the only one without any teeth?? I thought that I saw something under his gum at 5 months...and 2 months later, still no teeth!

@hilsy85: A has two bottom teeth. I think it's pretty normal to not have teeth yet. People are usually surprised he has two already.
AJ is doing good. He's not really crawling but he can scoot himself around. He can pull up to a standing position. He's finally rolling both ways now. He has figured out how to get himself to a sitting position from laying down. Now he's working on standing up and only holding on with one hand. This kid is just going crazy working on physical milestones. No babbling yet. He's a little busy body.

@hilsy85: J doesn't have any teeth yet --- I thought I saw the white of a tooth coming through but it's been there for about 2 weeks and no teeth!! My mom said I didn't get any teeth until I was ONE!
He is moving around like a maniac - no crawling but very busy --- changing is impossible - he's constantly flipping around. He scoots a little and turns around - gets on all fours and rocks - but no crawling, and he definitely isn't pulling himself up I standing (wow @mrskc: !! I think you are going to have an early walker!)
J does a lot of babbling --- he has been saying mommmmm and mom and mama a lot, but it probably isn't for me (I like to think it is) he does it when he is tired or hungry! DH is trying to get him to say dada, no luck yet.
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: oh wow!! He is SO advanced on physical stuff!! @hellobeeboston: we get mamama too...I love it, even though I know it means nothing right now Just love hearing his little voice

@hilsy85: vt has been great so far. She likes the hike and sitting in her little backpack on daddy's back. She also liked the pool a lot. She was kicking around like she was trying to swim, it was really cute! I was dreading her teeth actually because I was afraid she was going to bite me while nursing but surprisingly she has bitten down less than she used to. One of our friends' daughter is 9 months and she still doesn't have teeth either!
@mrskc: wow! That's a ton of big milestones! go a! l is still sometimes wobbly when she sits up. She has just mastered rolling from back to front in the last week.
She is still not liking solids so much. Lots of spitting things out and gagging when I feed her bits of our food. She also has learned to push away my hand when she doesn't want it anymore.

@hilsy85: Awww! I know - I love it... He does 'ba' 'ra' sounds a lot too - he did da a few times but stopped --- and lately he has been making weird gurgle sounds into ra-ra-ra noises. It sounds like he is singing!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@hellobeeboston: @hilsy85: aw man! L says tons of da da da all day but no mamama! Boo. The other day she had a new syllable. Sounded like "zeeeyah" or something like that.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@SleepyMonkey: oh I was going to ask about the pool! Sounds fun!! Can't wait to try --- did you use a swim diaper? I need to find those.
squash / 13764 posts
@hellobeeboston: we've gotten ba, but no ra! Sounds like J is a chatty little fellow @SleepyMonkey: DH is dyyying for a da da, lol.

@hilsy85: @hellobeeboston: @SleepyMonkey: See we haven't had any sort of babbling out of A at all. That sounds really exciting.
@SleepyMonkey: Your trip sounds like fun!
@hellobeeboston: We ended up buying an Applecheeks washable swim diaper. We've only taken him swimming once, but so far, I love the reusable swim diaper. After I put it on him, it kind of made me wish we had cloth diapered.

@hellobeeboston: yup we used the pampers splashers and they did the job. At least I think they did. They're not supposed to hold pee, just poop. She didn't poop so I can't comment on how well it holds it!

@hilsy85: still no teeth for my LO either. I'm not rushing it though. I know she's going to be a biter.
honeydew / 7235 posts
ok - so we FINALLY went for LO's 6 month check up - at almost 7 months old.... he did great with the shots, screamed out, then i immediately nursed then he was happy as a clam.
our little guy is little though! He only weighs 15 lbs 11 oz! dr said he should definitely be getting more calories, so we're on Project Fatten Up... and we're doing a weight check in 4 weeks. He's still pretty long 28"....
She suggested dropping the night feeding too, that will be tough - he gets up once a night, usually around 3 to eat and goes immediately back down and sleeps till 7, so i guess this weekend we'll see if we can start dropping that.
I need to plan out how to fatten up. We have already introduced 1 bottle of formula when my DH picks him up at 6 since I can't make enough to satisfy him, then I nurse him to sleep. what have some other mama's done to get more calories in? here's what his day looks like:
3am nurse
7:30 nurse
11:00 pumped milk 5oz
some solids - 1oz maybe
2:00 pumped milk 5oz
some solids - 1oz
6:00 1 4-5oz bottle of formula
8:00 Nurse

Hey everyone, I've been MIA but wanted to drop in and say hi!
@mrskc: I'm going to have to look into this swim diaper, I would like to have something to make sure nothing sneaks out
We have a little chatter box on our hands, but nothing concrete, she says ba a lot, but no ma or da yet, we are working on it she just smiles really big when we pull those out, but doesn't repeat it. is E the only one not sitting up on her own yet? I know she can do it and will for 30 seconds and then she flings herself down to go for a toy, dog, ect. She's rolling everywhere, and up on all 4s but no crawling yet.
We go in for surgery 31st of this month, exploratory to see if they can find out what's wrong with her stomach. She will be completely under so she won't feel it, but it's going to be a rough day for mom and dad seeing our little girl go under surgery at such a young age. Thoughts and prayers are much appreciated

@hellobeeboston: C is a little peanut too -- only 15'4 at 6 1/2 months. The doc wasn't concerned as she is still in the percentile she always has been. She told me to drop the night feeding too. However, a few days later, I think she started going through a super growth spurt. Up twice at night to eat and barely satisfied during the day...was feeding her every 2 hours over the weekend during the day instead of every 3 1/2-4.
@LuLu Mom: C is also flinging herself around when she's sitting up. I have to have the boppy around her at all times, because when she's excited, she launches herself backwards...slamming her head onto our hardwood floors!
I have no idea if she is ready to crawl. She could roll at 4 months, but always preferred to just lay on her stomach, so she didn't do much of it. Within the last month, whenever we put her on her tummy, she rolls immediately onto her back, so she's not on her tummy long enough for us to see if she's making progress during crawling.
C is super super super clingy lately and it's really stressing me out. We're introducing formula, solids, she's working on getting a 3rd tooth through, and just getting over a bout of bronchiolitis and double ear infection. She is up most of the night and refuses to let us put her down, even to sit up and play with toys. It's so hard to figure out what is causing it. Could it just be a little bit of everything?

@hellobeeboston: sounds like our guys have similar stats! L was 27.5 in and 14lbs15oz at 6 months exactly, so probably similar to what J was a few weeks ago! As you know, we've also struggled to fatten him up...I introduced a bottle of pumped milk after I nurse him at bedtime. I also try to space feeds a bit, similar to what @Beehive did--I find that he nurses better when he's hungrier. And we've been doing high calorie solids, like eggs, cheese, full fat yogurt, avocado, sweet potato and banana.
Did he make a huge drop in percentiles or anything like that? Our pedi was actually not really concerned about his weight...she said that since DH and I are both tall and thin, it's probably genetic. LO is also meeting all his milestones and is generally happy, so she said he's just built that way! We also go back for a weight check in June. I know how stresssful it is when it seems like something isn't going the way it should tho!
@LuLu Mom: It sounds liek she probably can sit but is too distracted to really do it! I hope her surgery goes well--is it that she's been spitting up more often lately? Or that her weight gain has slowed? Thinking of you guys!
squash / 13764 posts
@Tidybee: wow 3 teeth! I bet she's just got a lot going on...L goes through clingy days/phases too. I love the snuggles, but he doesn't let me sit down with him!
nectarine / 2834 posts
@hilsy85: Neither does C! I wish she liked to be rocked but she never has...always preferred to be held while standing. My back is killing me! I also secretly love it...except for 6:30am and I'm trying to get ready for work. I had to put on all of my makeup with 1 hand today!
honeydew / 7235 posts
@hilsy85: yes - they sound really similar! the doc wasn't too concerned - he did have a pretty big percentile drop though, he was 50% in weight last time, yikes.... but she said it's pretty normal - it just means his need for more solids is increasing. he is meeting all of his milestones for sure and is a really happy kid, he doesn't seem hungry!
good to know about what you're feeding him! we've mainly only been doing fruits and veggies and some oatmeal mixed in, but I can increase that... i haven't tried yogurt or eggs or cheese yet - i should! i only did avocado once, I should bring that back. do you give him scrambled egg whites, we're supposed to wait on yolks right? we're still just on puree's.... what kind of cheese??
@Tidybee: oh wow - poor C - a lot going on, 3 teeth? wow! and the sickness' - aww -- yeah, it sounds like just a lot going on at the same time which is making her clingy, hopefully things will get better soon!
@LuLu Mom: Good luck with the surgery - aww, yeah, it will be really hard for you & your husband! but hopefully it will provide some answers! keep us posted... and yeah, it sounds like she's just too busy to sit still long enough to sit up!
squash / 13764 posts
@hellobeeboston: yup that sounds like L--he was 40th at 2 months, 25th at 4 months, and 8th at 6 months. I think it's pretty normal for breastfed babies to gain weight really slowly from months 6-12 too!
We did egg yolk first, and then the whole egg (ok'd by our pedi). If you hard boil and egg and then puree it with some yogurt, it gets really smooth and easy to eat. We've done cheddar cheese and mozzarella and he likes it!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@Tidybee: same thing! And then she will slide down in the Bobby to "get away." The doctor says she's fine and that she has shown us she can sit, but man I feel like she's way behind on this milestone!
@hilsy85: Well we've graduated from spitting up to forcefully vomitting, she's weighing in at 14 lbs 4 oz, but they are very concerned with how it has gotten worse not better.
nectarine / 2054 posts
@hellobeeboston: The space between his feedings looks pretty similar to what we're doing (for solids we wait about an hour after his milk so he's a little hungry). I think one thing that might help, though, is giving him more pumped milk. We were told by our ped that J should be drinking 8 oz at this age, which sounded like a ton, but he will do it! Apparently they're supposed to get around 28-32 oz a day, so we end up making 7 oz bottles for J since he's still on 5 feedings a day. Do you think he might drink a couple more oz in each of his bottles?
honeydew / 7235 posts
@Beehive: wow, 8oz! I told the doc how much he was drinking and she didn't say much - but to see if we gave him a little more if he would take it. So, we will try. I'm barely making enough breast milk for him now so I guess I might need to add more formula and see how he does. Thanks! Will def try to up his milk!
nectarine / 2834 posts
@hellobeeboston: C was eating 5 oz/feeding because that's what I pumped and I figured that's right around what she would eat if I were home. As she started getting more active and spending more time awake, day care told me she still seemed hungry. I added a nighttime pump to give her 6 1/2-7oz bottles, and even that is not enough these days so I am giving 2 oz bottles of formula to the daycare as needed. Yesterday she needed both! I worry about them overfeeding her, but she is waking up hungry in the middle of the night (not comfort nursing at all - straight guzzling!) so I think she is just hungry.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@Tidybee: ok - thanks! and yes - that was exactly my thinking - i am doing 5oz because that's what I pump....

Hey Oct Mamas --- hope you had a nice long weekend (at least those celebrating memorial day).
Question for you guys about bath time. Tell me how you do your bath. What do you use?
I feel like we're in a weird in-between place and baths have been difficult because he's so squirmy. We had a little folding tub that we put away a month or so ago, so now we just put him in the big tub. I usually fill it with an inch or two of water, put a washcloth down for his head and lay him flat. But lately he keeps flipping over (while i'm holding him) - so I have him sit up, but he is so slippery he can't stay sitting up yet! I also get in and bathe with him which helps but i feel like there must be an easier way with a squirmer.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@hellobeeboston: We are in the same boat! I have actually just been bathing with her in the tub so I can have a good hold on her and don't have to risk her rolling over or flinging herself back. She loves to play and splash so having me in there helps prevent any accidents! I'm hoping in another month or so she will be able to do it by herself. Have you seen the clothing basket trick on Pinterest? Stick them in a plastic basket and it gives them something to lean against, keep toys close, & not as slick/sides to grab onto? Maybe give that a try.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@LuLu Mom: i have seen that actually -- yeah, maybe I will try that instead of buying some blow up thing that seems like a waste! you make a good point though, it probably won't be too long before they can sit up better in the tub, so maybe I'll just keep bathing with him until then.
bananas / 9357 posts
@hellobeeboston: We're still using our First Years tub. It has a slant on one side and a place to sit up on the other. He now sits on the side where he can sit up. Sometimes he tries to stand up in it though. I haven't tried putting him in the big part of the tub yet. I think I will try the laundry basket tip though.
Well... today is my first official day back at work full time. I was able to change my schedule to be 7-4 so I can at least get home by 5 everyday. This week is going to be rough. I was already up late stressing last night and sad thinking how I won't get to spend my afternoons with A anymore. It's like my first day back all over again. Still debating what I want to do with myself job-wise.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@mrskc: HUGS... going back full-time is hard! you're definitely lucky you got the extra time to be with him but I know that is zero consolation now that you're back. It definitely gets better. the first couple of weeks were a tough adjustment, but now everything just works. I also don't really want to be at the job i'm at so I have been working on finding something new, but in the meantime I know that providing for my family is just as important as being there for him, so I just deal. That is great that you can be home on the early side too!! I get the morning with him, so I drop him at 9/9:15, and get to work by 10, then I don't get home until 6:30/7 - but i get to see him for an hour at least. i LIVE for the weekends now more than ever. good luck!
bananas / 9357 posts
@hellobeeboston: Thank you. I'm a mess today. I didn't expect this since I've been working since Feb. I think my boss forgot I was supposed to start full time today b/c he mentioned something about me leaving at 12. Now I just want to leave at 12 and call next week my first week back full time since my DH will be starting his summer break then. I'll feel better knowing my DH is home taking care of him rather than the nanny and then my gma is supposed to go over there today at 1 to relieve her. So no luck on finding a new job yet?
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: we do the same thing for bathtime--still using the baby bath tub. I am way too nervous to have him just sit in the big tub, because it's really slippery and I don't know how to wash his hair with him sitting up! LO is also trying to stand up in it--I think we need to get a bath mat for the big tub.
Big hugs about going back to work! I hope the transition goes well--and that's great that next week your DH will be home with him, that must be a big relief even if you do like your nanny.
bananas / 9357 posts
@hilsy85: Yes. I feel so much better knowing DH will be home with him all summer. Our nanny is great, but I told my DH last night that the only people I trust 100% with him is him and I.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@mrskc: aww - yeah, can you push it off one more week? i would take advantage if i were you!
no luck yet Was interviewing for 2 different ones - didn't get one, and the other is still stringing me along, but it's a super slow process. so i've started looking - but I'm extremely particular, want something closer to home #1, and the type of job is harder to come by (want to make a bit of a switch) - so I'm just hoping to find something that feels right, trying to be patient!
squash / 13764 posts
We just got back from L's 7 month weight check. He went up to the 14th percentile from 8th! I know the percentiles don't mean much, but I was still really happy to see that he is doing well with weight gain, especially considering I'm always worried about his breastmilk intake.
Hope you all had a good memorial day wknd!
