@hilsy85: That is a nice weight gain!! Go L! What did he weight in? I get giddy too when E starts to appear "bigger"

@LuLu Mom: He was 16lbs 9oz--I was super happy with that. Thinking of you and E this week, hope everything goes well!

@hilsy85: Nice! Thank you, the reality of the situation is hitting me today, so I have a feeling it's going to be a long day. I'm just ready for some answers & hopefully we will get some. We talked last night about our plan for all scenarios we can think of, we are packing bags to take in case we get transferred immediately to Children's Hospital, just preparing for the worst and obviously hoping for the best!

We had a huge scare last night, about 1:30 am LO starts SCREAMING like I've never heard before, we both jumped out of bed and ran into her room (didn't even check the monitor) and she had a leg stuck in the crib.
Once I removed it, she fell right abck asleep, I guess is scared her more than anything as there was no bruising/swelling this morning. Today I'm going to get a breathable bumper, I trust her rolling enough now at 8 months that I think I'm okay with a bumper on. Anyone else experience this? Are you using a bumper? I have never been more scared in my life hearing that scream!

@hilsy85: I missed this - yay L! that's awesome -- we have our weight check in 3 weeks and I hope he goes up!
@LuLu Mom: EEK -scary! i would hate to hear that ! J has gotten his leg stuck a few times - i did end up buying a breathable bumper.

Hi all, my LO was born Nov 1, so I'm crashing this thread! I put on a breathable bumper on at 5.5 months. The first night of sleep training he got his fat leg stuck in the slats. We were previously cosleeping so he wasn't used to the crib. I've seen him with his nose all up in the bumper (which is how he slept when we were cosleeping, nose in my armpit) and gone in to check him numerous times but hes been fine.

@MamaChin: welcome!! That was my daughters due date but she was born on the 27th.

@hilsy85: nice job on the weight gain!! L really packed on the pounds in the last few weeks
@LuLu Mom: aw poor thing! Glad she is ok! Haven't tried the breathable bumpers yet.

Hi everyone! After reading a recent thread on birthday twins I was sad that I haven't been active with the October group. M was born 9/29/12 but she was 4 weeks early (EDD was 10/27), so we are definitely more October than September. I'm having so much fun with her at 8 months and I'd love to hear about more kiddos her age!

@MrsF: Hi! I love this stage too. So much fun. Although my son has started crawling and cruising so this is a whole new ball game. He loves to crawl after our dog and crawl all over the house. Easy way to wear him out!
@LuLu Mom: eeeek! I think I would feel comfortable with a bumper at this age too. You can always do a breathable one if you're worried.
@MamaChin: Welcome! We haven't had any legs stuck in the crib yet. But we still cosleep most of the night so he's not in his crib very much.
How is everyone and their LOs doing?

@MrsF: @MamaChin: welcome!
We are doing pretty good...I don't know if you guys remember me saying we were buying a vacation house upstate but we closed on Friday! We are up here for the week trying to get things settled. Stressful and exciting! Lo is handling the change to his routine pretty well...he has been super smiley lately, everyone comments on it!

@mrskc: I can't imagine the crawling and cruising! I feel like M is so far away from that, but that's what I say about everything. I'm enjoying her being able to sit unassisted so she can see the world and play better but not being very mobile. Each stage brings joys and challenges, I suppose!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mrskc: I got a breathable one and only put 1/2 of it up (the front part of the crib since that is where she was getting stuck. She sleeps right up next to it, which I knew was going to happen, but so far so good!
@hilsy85: YAY on the vacation home, I must say I'm a little jealous! That sounds so amazing and relaxing and a great way to create memories as a family!!
@MrsF: Welcome! my LO is an Oct. 1st baby so we are very close!!!
@MamaChin: Welcome to you too!! Breathable bumper has defintely been a great addition for us too, no more stuck legs
I have a funny story, E now has a "I'm scared scream" I know it's horrible, but when she does it I laugh. My BFF brought over her dog so we could all go for a walk and my dog and her dog could play (they love each other.) Well every time E saw her black dog she would do this "scared scream" & then be fine, it took her about 30 minutes to warm up to him and then she was all about getting him. I felt awful for laughing but it was too funny because it wasn't crying just a scream and then done back to playing.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! It's a rainy day here in NY, the rain always makes me sleepy but does the opposite for little N! I've had to be pretty creative to keep him entertained! What's everyone doing this weekend?
nectarine / 2280 posts
@MamaChin: not doing much. Hanging out with Mee Maw trying to see if LO will crawl. She's much more interested in walking. I also keep thinking about cleaning so we'll be ready for Father's Day next week.

Ladies, when your LO pulls up to stand and walk, do they use both legs equally? N does not and it has me worried because he was born with a pretty noticeable hip click. The hip click has since seemed to go away but now he isn't using that leg the same as the other.
I am probably just paranoid. Any suggestions?
persimmon / 1408 posts
@LuLu Mom: we've been using the breathable bumper since around 6 months, once LO started rolling around at night. It's working well for us! LO has just started sitting up at night though and pulling on the bumper. We had to lower the crib to the bottom.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@MrsRcCar: did you end up getting any answers?? J does seem to favor one leg or the other when he's working on pulling up, but it's not consistent, i think its just whatever gives him a better angle to try to stand.
Ladies - I'm receiving an offer today for a new job! As long as everything comes in OK I will probably accept! WOO HOO. So excited to move into a job with a better work/life balance!!
bananas / 9357 posts
@MrsRcCar: I would talk to your ped if you're worried about it. I do notice that AJ will tend to favor one leg when pulling up. And he crawls kind of strange in that he uses the same leg to push himself and then drag the other one. But he's never had any clicking in his hips.
@hellobeeboston: Congratulations! Awesome news!!!

oh - and in baby news... how are you guys dealing with the bumps & spills for our mobile babies?? ugh - i'm not a fan of this stage, this morning he wiped out on the hardwood and hit his cheek, then when he was pulling up onto some pillows i put in the middle of the carpet, he fell and managed to roll over to the couch that has a sharp edge on the bottom, hit the side of his head & get a little egg it's so hard to keep them from falling all of the time --- i guess they just need to learn?
bananas / 9357 posts
@hellobeeboston: the falls and bumps are the worst! We are constantly having to be right at his side when he pulls up and is cruising. He is so not very careful and I don't want him to fall and crack his head open on the tile. Just the other day he was holding onto a box and completely let go with both hands and just gave me this big grin like he was saying, "look ma! No hands!" If I wasn't right there he would have completely fallen straight down and hit his head on the tile. Ugh! I mean I can't always catch him and he's fallen and gotten a little hurt, but I would like to at least try and avoid a cracked open head.
nectarine / 2280 posts
@MrsRcCar: I actually haven't noticed if she did that. I going to pay closer attention.
@hellobeeboston: congrats! I'm not a fan of this bumps and spills stage. We try to make the floor as soft as possible and I hover. Sigh.

@MrsRcCar: LO isn't pulling up on his own yet, so I haven't noticed anything...did you end up talking to the pedi?@hellobeeboston: I am not looking forward to our first bumps and bruises, and I'm sure there will be plenty...I guess it's just a rite of passage? I do think it's just part of the process...
squash / 13764 posts
@hellobeeboston: also congrats on the new job!!!! same field or different?
grapefruit / 4712 posts
@hilsy85: @katsupgirl: @hellobeeboston: @mrskc: I took N to the doctor today and endless to say I am not pleased. I already don't care for this doctor. Anyway she said we will just continue to monitor his hips. However she didn't see a point in doing the ultrasound because she couldn't feel the click. Maybe in July I can see the other doctor in the practice.
bananas / 9357 posts
@MrsRcCar: I'm sorry. Maybe go to another doc and get a second opinion or wait to see the other doc in the practice. Does he have rolls on his legs? And are they even on each leg (like same amount, same spot and size)?
squash / 13764 posts
@MrsRcCar: I agree with getting a 2nd opinion! Sounds like she just brushed you off...
honeydew / 7235 posts
@MrsRcCar: I agree - second opinion can't hurt - but if she didn't react too much, maybe that's a good sign?
@hilsy85: yeah, rite of passage is probably right - so stressful & scary...... and, James just went down again... His dad looked away for a minute. ughhh... poor guy - i guess he has to learn.
The job is sort of the same field -- I'm going client side after working in an agency (advertising) for the last 6 years. Still doing graphic design/art direction. I'm psyched! way better work/life balance, great benefits, etc - it's a huge company so I think it will be great! YAY. Accepting tomorrow morning then giving 2 weeks notice! woo hoo!
honeydew / 7283 posts
Once again, I can't believe all these mobile babies! M is so far from being mobile. I'm excited for her to get moving and dreading it at the same time. I'm already worried about those bumps and bruises...
@MrsRcCar: it's so hard to have the dr. not listen to you! I would definitely try to see someone else next month and switch over if you're not a fan of your pedi. You need someone who's on your team!
@HellobeeBoston: Congrats on the job! So exciting!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@hilsy85: we have a diagnosis she has eosphiliac esophagitis, which is a condition of allergy cells damaging her esophagusZ. Right now we are waiting to find out what her "triggers" are and will hopefully be able to do an elimination diet. If it is several than it might be more drastic but I don't like to think about that :). Our appt with the pediatric allergist isn't until next month as now. We are hoping when her returns from vacation we can get in sooner. So we are playing a waiting game Again right now!

How's everyone's babies doing? AJ just started babbling a lot in the last couple of days. It's so cute to hear his voice and hear him trying to "talk". He is really crawling fast and constantly finding something to pull himself up. We think he's teething again. Lots and lots of drool for weeks now and he had a few nights where he was waking up crying really bad. That's exactly what he did before his bottom two teeth popped through. It could still be a couple more weeks or months... who knows.... Hope you all are doing well!
@LuLu Mom: So will it just be diet change for her? Or medication? Or you don't know yet?
nectarine / 2280 posts
@mrskc: how long did it take for the tooth to become fully visible?
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mrskc: It all depends on how many 'triggers" or allergies she has. In most cases it can be done with diet and medicine, but in some exterme cases it's a formula diet for the rest of her life (fed through a machine.) I think this is pretty extreme and hopefully pretty rare, but it is a possibility we unfortunately have in the back of our mind. She seems to be handlign most foods okay, I really regulate what I've been giving her, and keep track of EVERYTHING she is eating, as it appears to last up to 4 days after she eats a trigger. Right now I have elminated all milk based products from her diet, I gave her baby yogurt and organic yogurt bites, although she loved them, I'm pretty sure it caused her to get sick. I'm doign what I can now, but we won't know anything for sure until next month!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@LuLu Mom: That's so hard! It must be a relief to have a diagnosis, but it's tough to have the worse case scenario in the back of your head. Hopefully you'll have more answers soon and it won't be too restrictive.
@mrskc: It's so cute when they "talk"! M will be babbling a lot for a few days and then stop for a few. We were at a playgroup last week it she and another baby were making all the same noises at each other and having a little conversation! Cutest thing ever.
squash / 13764 posts
@LuLu Mom: I hope you get positive answers from the allergist! Besides dairy, have you spotted any other triggers yet?
@mrskc: L is babbling non stop as well!! He is so funny--he has "conversations" with us now where we'll go back and forth talking to each other. He also babbles with his baby friends--we caught it on video and it is adorable. We're getting lots of mamama, bababa, nana, nomnom (esp while eating which is funny), rara, wawa, duhduh...but no dada! Poor dh
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@hilsy85: Not yet, she seems to be good with wheat/gluten, and most fruits and veggies. I have given her chicken and turkey and we are good there, and we gave beef last night, so far so good. The hard part about fruits/veggies is one day she will be fine with apples and then 3 weeks later she will vomit them up, so I can't decide if its the apples or something else. So that's why I started tracking.
DH was really scared she would be allergic to animal protein, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case! (my husband wouldn't survive as a vegeterian!)
