@waiting4you: We are going to do everything we can to NOT learn the gender! I am going to be reminding EVERYONE who might let it slip.

@jaguar: Oh and my cousin had the same as you with Georgia. She was freaking out until the a/s (where she got good news) and then learned she could have done a NIPT. It was early days for NIPTs but I remembered her stress. Being 40, I have higher chances of them seeing something wonky on the scans (they're gonna be looking extra hard, I'm sure!), so there's no question that I want the Mat21 to back anything up...and hopefully close the loop on any wonkiness.

@Amorini: NIPTs were in their infancy when I was pregnant with G, and because of my age, we weren't even considered for one. Back then, they cost $1500 in Aussie dollars and had to be sent to the USA for testing. Now, they have labs that do them here, so it's a lot more common/affordable!

@Amorini: My insurance won't cover my NIPT either, even though I'm AMA, and my OB won't write a letter of explanation because it's not medically necessary. We're paying out of pocket ~$250. I'm annoyed that it won't count towards my out-of-pocket total. The 12w NT scan is covered however. My OB said they use it for signs of cardiac issues.

@BUNBUN: You're right -- that is the drawback (not having it count toward the OOP total). Where I am, the OB refers to the perinatalogist. Speaking with them today, they acted like they would do everything short of fraud to make insurance pay and said my age alone was enough reason. We'll see.

@jaguar: Crazy how fast things change! What will be the norm five years from now?! Glad it's more available and reasonable now for you. Do you have it covered under national healthcare?
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Amorini: Nope. Will be a fair bit out of pocket still, but hoping to get a little rebate on the scan itself.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@jaguar: Oh, shoot. Sorry I didn't reply about the fetal heart scan thing. Apparently there are recent findings that IVF babies have an increased 1.1% chance of congenital heart defects so they try to do a neonatal scan to make sure things are good with that. Sounds like from BUNBUN (who didn't do IVF, if I'm not mistaken), they might just do it normally here as part of the NT scan but the perinatalogy folks described it as something they do for AMA and IVF-ers.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Amorini: Oh, interesting! I'll ask the scan folks if/when we get to that point!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Amorini: I am doing the NIPT testing as well, between 10-12 weeks. I've always done the NT scan and it's been fine, but now I'm 35, 36 when this one comes. Also DS2 had a quasi downs marker at his anatomy scan and I wished I had done some more definitive testing. Everything was fine but I had to wait another week after just to be sure. My OB does a 12 week scan as a matter of course.

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is feeling well. I think I may have turned a corner...the last 2 days I've definitely been less nauseous and less tired. Even went to run errands and out to dinner in the same day (this is a huge improvement for me!). However, the list of things I'm willing/interested in eating is getting smaller and smaller to the point of not wanting to eat at all. I keep trying things but will take two bites and throw it away. Frustrating, and wasteful.
Starting to think about when to sign up/take the parenting classes and things. How early/close to the due date did some of you do this?
eggplant / 11861 posts
@jaguar: Man, you and that baby are some strong people
@waiting4you: Glad you are feeling better! I hear you in not wanting to eat, I am not interested in much!
I had a breakfast shake for dinner the other night

@Amorini: We most likely will not be doing any testing, we didnt do any with DD and during our IF journey we had genetic testing done so we learned a lot from that..... I say most likely because I do want to know the gender now!!!

@waiting4you: I'm in the same boat as you. Feeling better but don't want to eat anything. Fruit is about all I can stomach. And burritos. Lol. My doctor gave me a list of classes the hospital offers and I believe she said most people take them 8-10 weeks before their due date? I'll check when I have a chance to pull out the folder.

I had another trip to the ER last night. Had some bright red spotting yesterday so I called my doctors office. They said if it comes back with cramping, go to emergency. Then my 3 year old goddaughter spent the night jumping on me. Lol. Started cramping so I figured better safe than sorry. Everything's fine, but I got to see my little baby wiggle and dance on the ultrasound last night. I started sobbing.

@KrzyRiver: awww I am glad you and baby are OK, so scary at times!

@waiting4you: Ohhh I forgot to answer your question about the classes
We did the hospital tour/bringing baby home class I think 4 weeks before my due date?!
I think it was Nov 2nd and I was due Dec 14th
DH is a LEO so he is CPR certified so I crashed a class at his job

@FaithFertility: lol, love that! My hubby is a firefighter paramedic so I get to steal some of that info from him, though on the flip side he's gone for 24 hours every 3rd day so he won't be here to work his magic should something go awry. What area of FL are you in? We're in the southeast. Thank your husband for his service, and you for your support. It's a very tough world out there for LEO's now. My husband isn't a sheriff, but his uniform says it large on the front since he works with a sheriff's office. Worries me. Wish it said fire medic larger than sheriff's office!
Sorry for going off subject
I'll have to check with the hospital to see how far in advance they fill up and see what the OB suggests on Tuesday.
Also, you said that you did genetic testing during IVF so you skipped it during your last pregnancy. We did this too ($7,000 worth! Thank goodness for insurance!!) and it came back that we weren't carriers for anything. That being said, does that just about rule out needing testing during pregnancy or could something still be "off"? After going thru all this IF stuff and someone says "diagnostic test" and it's only $200 or so dollars, my brain automatically just says, oh better safe than sorry, what is $200?! Though at this point I'm kinda tired of spending so much money.

@waiting4you: Same to you and him! Those jobs are hard and definitely don't come with wonderful schedules!!!!
We are in south east as well I'd say
He is a Sheriff!!
We were about to go down the road of IVF and did the genetic testing and kryotype testing before and well got PG before we started the IVF road!
I think it covers a lot, but I am sure not all definitely something to ask at OB apt!
I plan on just doing everything I did the same with her and pray for a healthy babe!

Hey Ladies! I'm glad to see that you are doing well! Woog and I ran a 10k this morning. I'm really tired now, but I felt okay during the race.

@avivoca: you GO GIRL! I'm proud if I make it out of the house to go to the grocery store....you're over here running races! Very impressive!
apricot / 276 posts
@avivoca: That's awesome! Good for you!
@waiting4you: I didn't do IVF, but I did fertility testing. They checked hubby and I to see if we were carriers of anything. But they're still going to check the baby. But my doctor lets me skip any testing if I really want to, so you might be able to skip it if you want.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@avivoca: nice work . I'm still working out 4c a week but my workouts are lame, definitely no road races here!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@avivoca: I am tired just reading about that! Go you!
Woke up this morning with zero symptoms. ZERO. #messingwithmymind

I am so frigging nauseous today. Nothing is helping. This is my worst pregnancy so far. Girl???!!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@waiting4you: @KrzyRiver: @mfa_lady: @winniebee: @jaguar: Thanks ladies. I felt amazing when I was out there but I am paying the price right now. My entire lower half is so sore I haven't been running much but I paid $200 for these races right before I got my BFP and I'm determined to not let the money go to waste.

@winniebee: I'm so nauseous I can't handle it. 24/7 unless I am eating. I was never this nauseous with my first pregnancy so I'm wondering if maybe it's a girl too!!

Anyone have any feedback on taking a bath? I know it can't be too warm and hot tubs are a no-no but I'm kinda terrified to even take a bath. I keep dreaming of how good it would feel on my sore back though.
nectarine / 2210 posts
@waiting4you: I take baths all the time. I think as long as you don't get overheated you'll be fine. I normally bring a glass of water to drink throughout too.
apricot / 276 posts
@jaguar: how cool! I couldn't find mine yesterday. I think the extra weight I put on isn't helping. Lol
@waiting4you: you can take warm baths, just not hot ones. Nothing that raises your body temperature.
@winniebee: my mom would say you're definitely having a girl! Lol. I made her SO sick.

@jaguar: Olaf is not going to let you rest, huh? Hope things calm down soon!
