    @waiting4you: The cutest!!!!!

    @lollipop_sorbet: No advice but lots of commiserations, sounds awful

    @KrzyRiver: Yay for your upcoming scan! Mine is Saturday and I'm all sorts of anxious!

    For those with boys, or expecting a boy did any family ask about circumsizion?!
    It caught me off guard I think that is a personal descion, my mom asked but in a way that made it seem like our choice was wrong!
    "You're not going to circumsize him are you?!" I told her yes, and she just gave me her opinion and how it is wrong!
    OK, mom thanks but I didn't ask for your thoughts ....

    @FaithFertility: No one in my family asked me, but I realized the other day it's because everyone assumes we will if it's a boy. I guess no one knew that fewer and fewer people are doing it in the US. Lol. But we plan to if its a boy anyway, so at least I won't have to argue with anyone.

    @FaithFertility: we've been team green both times, so it was always a possibility of needing a circumcision. Last time I actually got into a bit of an argument with a friend of mine since she thinks its basically mutalation. But especially since I'm Jewish it isn't really negotiable to me.

  7. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

    @FaithFertility: no one asked me beforehand except my close girlfriend (who also had/was having a boy). actually, my sister might have asked because she was due with her first boy right around me. after the fact, my MIL said she was relieved we did not circumcise. my parents i don't think made any comment either way.

  8. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

    @Miss Ariel: Yes, I mean me and my husband obviously spoke about it and our choice!
    I just was odd since she has no sons and well I know she has an opinion about it, but to me at the end of the day it is made by the parents!

    @waiting4you: Ah, the feet, so cute! My scan is tomorrow and I keep flipping between being really excited and really anxious for it.

    @FaithFertility: I'm hoping circumcision discussions won't be a problem with our families if we do end up having a boy (we wouldn't have it done). I know my mother was very surprised that none of my cousins' sons are circumcised, but I don't think she'd think it was worth making a fuss over. If we were planning on circumcising, though, my FIL would probably go through the roof. Our problem will actually be whether or not our child is baptised... DH's family assumes it's just a given that we will have a baptism, whereas my family will be shocked if we do.

    Is anyone else feeling discouraged by weight gain? I feel like I've gained too much, too fast, and I can't seem to slow it down. I don't eat a ton of junk food and get a decent amount of exercise, but I still feel like I'm packing on too much! I just can't seem to go more than two or three hours without feeling absolutely starving and needing to eat snacks I know I need to just relax and make sure I'm staying healthy in general rather than fretting about a number on a scale, but I'm just having a really hard time with it at the moment.

    @cnidaria: I am this time, mainly because my husband is losing weight and for the first time ever, I weigh more than him. I gained six pounds in six weeks, but I try to remember that I actually lost weight in the first trimester so in reality, I'm only over by about five pounds. I'm trying to get my snacking under control and stop drinking soda (my caffeine of choice since I can't drink coffee and it's too hot for tea).

    @cnidaria: we were the first in our family not to baptize....my mother had a fit over it

    @cnidaria: I typically love how pregnancy gives me a pass on not being super skinny, but my love handles are out of control. I don't really care about the number on the scale, just not a fan of his this particular pregnancy is sitting on me.

  13. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

    Had my 16 week visit, nothing to report....good heartbeat even though I'm not really feeling him yet. Anatomy scan set for 20+3.....4 weeks from today! Also had my AFP screening for neural tube defects today.

    @cnidaria: I've gained 7 lbs! I usually gain 10 lbs by 20 weeks and I'm sure this time will be no different. I eat pretty well and exercise, so I know it's just what my body needs to do. I started out weighing less each pregnancy, so at least there's that.

    @FaithFertility: We're team green and nobody has asked me about circumcision, we are technically Jewish so everyone probably assumes we will do it. Unfortunately, while I definitely insist that we do it, DH is staunchly anti and it is a big source of contention for us. Apparently the subject came up with his mom and sister (I wasn't there) and they were both like "of course you have to circumcise if it's a boy." Normally I'd be annoyed at the meddling but since they are on my side, I don't mind, and hope that even more people pipe in, LOL. I don't think we're going to resolve it before the baby is born. Fingers crossed for a girl?

    We had our son circumcised. No family commented or asked about it before or after he was born and it's been a non-issue. When deciding whether to have it done, DH felt strongly about it but I didn't so I just went with the flow. I remember being surprised that at our hospital your OB is the one who performs the procedure.

  16. Amorini

    persimmon / 1132 posts

    @FaithFertility: We're TG but this one will be a non-issue for us, if we end up with a boy. DH is European and uncircumcised so we don't have much to toil over. DH actually can't believe most US guys are circumcised 'cause that's his norm.

    When my sister had her little boy, she told me that she got an earful by the doctor in the day or so after she delivered. Apparently it was the hospital's window for the circumcision and she and her DH hadn't discussed circumcision and she wanted to have the conversation with him before anything happened. She felt pretty assaulted by the doctor shoving their opinion down her throat especially given her condition.

    @cnidaria: I kind of am discouraged but also trying to enjoy the extra bon bons. I was an extra 5 lbs after the hormonal onslaught of IVF and have now gained 10 lbs (in addition to the 5 lbs) at 20w. 10 lbs is right on track, but I hate those extra 5, you know?! But at the same time, I am enjoying and needing the extra excuse for snacks.

    Well, I got my test results back and I have gestational diabetes again. My glucose was 150 after an hour. Off to buy a lancet device, strips, and a new meter.

    @cnidaria: I'm right there with you on feeling discouraged about the weight gain. For me it's mostly because I know it's unnecessary. I still don't have much of an appetite, so I'm eating junk. Fast food, pizza, sweets... I can't stomach anything healthy.

    @avivoca: I'm so sorry. *Hugs* My mother had it when she was pregnant because she ate whatever she could stomach (mostly grape juice) so I'm assuming I'll have to deal with it too.

    I had my anatomy scan today and all went well. Although it took forever and we were in the ulateasound room for 45 mins. Then I had to wait for the dr who realized I never did my 1st trimester labs (because no one told me to), so I had to do that too. Basically I wound up spending 2 hours at the doctor.

    But again everything looked good and that's the important part.

    @avivoca: *hugs* You had it last time, right? I need to get on and get my early test done, but I think OB wanted it at 22 weeks. Blah.

    I'm not too fussed about the weight gain. I was bigger to start with & stayed the same first trimester, but this is the time I started gaining with G, so I guess I know what's coming!

    watermelon / 14467 posts

    @KrzyRiver: @jaguar: Thanks ladies. I'm not too fussed about it since I know what to do. Plus they won't induce me unless absolutely necessary (none of the "you may have a big baby because you have GD, so we will induce at 39 weeks" business).

    I have my 20 week ultrasound tomorrow and planning to go over to my parents for dinner. any super easy but fun ideas on how to tell them if we having a boy or girl? I baked a cake last time with pink frosting inside but I don't have time to bake a cake tomorrow...

    @Alexandra603: Since you are going over for dinner, perhaps do something associated with setting the table? Hide a pink or blue card inside the folded napkins, or under the plates? Or bring out drinks with pink/blue ice cubes/straws/etc...something along those lines?

    @Alexandra603: I considered wrapping up an outfit and letting my parents open it. Then my husband decided he wanted them to surprise us. So our moms are going to Build-a-Bear and making a boy or girl bear. Then we'll open it and that's how we'll find out. Either of those would be fun for your parents to open up at dinner.

    @Kitkat: Congrats!!!

    And.... I have caught a cold. Ugh! We are supposed to go to Maker Faire with friends tomorrow (been looking forward to it for months). I also have a ton of events next week that I have to attend as I am leading/hosting. I'm going to go take a hot shower to hopefully loosen up my congestion and drown myself in some tea and honey. I think the toddler is going to be watching a lot of tv today so I can rest.

    Had my appointment today. 16 weeks 2 days here. Baby sounded great and they are working on getting my progesterone shots run through my insurance so I can start them next week. We are going to do an elective ultrasound tomorrow because I can't handle not knowing for sure. It's killing me. I am almost 100% sure it's a boy but tomorrow we will know for sure.

    @Kitkat: Congratulations!

    @TFrances: Ugh sorry. I've had a raging sore throat for a week and had to throw a birthday party in there, so I feel ya. Tylenol and tea kind of helped, but it sucks to not be able to really take anything.

    What a bloody day!

    We turned up for our 10am appointment, and they told us they had record of our booking. Which is NUTS because I booked it at least 5 weeks ago - cue massive meltdown. I was anxious enough for this ultrasound, and to have to go home and wait and try and rebook somewhere else after Monday was enough to send me over the edge. I was 100% positive they'd stuffed up... sure enough, when we got home, we got a call asking could we come back? *sigh* They were sickening sweet second time around and very apologetic.

    Anyway.. little one seems ok! Still a girl, had her little legs crossed at the ankles and hands over her face a lot. Measurements seem great for 19 weeks, and heart rate nice and strong at 150.

    All in all, I'm relieved.. just worried about a short-ish cervix at 3.1cm, but have to chase that up with OB in a few weeks.

    She is the cutest little thing.
