@avivoca: Aw, poor H! (And poor mama.) I have a croup-er, too (she gets it a couple times a year)--hope it doesn't get to that point!

@mfa_lady: I'm so ready, though. I'm over summer, I just want to skip to fall and get the show on the road. I have everything already and nothing going on between now and then. Gah, it is going to be a long 4 months.

I also found an ant colony living in my effing drill battery! What the hell! I'm just going to buy a new, better drill.

@mfa_lady: I sort of feel that way too. Mentally I don't think I've gotten past the pregnancy part to the having a newborn/2 kids part yet. Although last week when it occurred to me that we have 4 months left the Type A control freak side of me started thinking "I ONLY HAVE 4 MONTHS TO PREPARE?!?! AHHHHH!!!"
Curious for those that are 2nd time (or more) moms- what gear are you buying for this baby that you didn't have for the first one? Mine are:
-Carrier- I had the Moby but my son hated it. I'm thinking about getting the Lillebaby but I plan to try it out in the store first to make sure I like it because its fairly pricey
-Diaper pail- 1st time we thought we could just get away with a trash can- big mistake
-Baby Brezza Formula Pro- this didn't exist when I had my son but it is genius and I'm sure will be worth every penny

@dookie32: i got a solly wrap with DD2. I used it and the ergo all the time because I needed my hands free for DD1. I also got a swing, because we had a bigger house the second time around. Unfortunately, we got rid of it and now I need to get a new one. That's pretty much my only gear for DD3.

@avivoca: Poor little thing! I hope she's well again soon xx
@whiskers: I hear you! I want baby here (safely!) so the anxiety part of this pregnancy can settle down.
@dookie32: New pram, infant capsule (we skipped and went straight to convertible car seat last time) and ..... a swing, but we're borrowing that

@dookie32: The only thing new I've bought is a Baby Bjorn carrier. I have a Boba wrap and hate it. A friend sold me her old BB for $10, so I though I would try it out this time. Other than that, I don't forsee us buying anything new. However, our general philosophy is less stuff.

OMG. It's like this toddler sinus infection is getting me ready for newborn sleep
Deprivation. I have to go to work today and I'm falling asleep holding my phone right now. Help.
Why do all the tasty caffeinated things have sugar?????
watermelon / 14467 posts
@dookie32: I bought a few new newborn sleepers and I might buy a new infant car seat. It just depends on if I want to drive 4 hours one way to get mine, which has been marinating in my inlaw's smokey house, and then drive it back.

@jaguar: I really hate that I cannot hold her as much as she wants/needs because my back/belly can't take it. We need to get a new glider ASAP so I can at least rock her, but I don't know if one will even fit in their room.

Oh, I also need a new infant bathtub, an extra car mirror and some new bibs. Waiting for my amazon registry completion discount (we aren't having a sprinkle, I just registered for the welcome box and completion discount) to buy it all.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@whiskers: how much stuff do you have to register for? That's not a bad idea. We're not going to have a sprinkle either and don't need a lot but it might be nice to have a small list of stuff to maybe buy.
kiwi / 657 posts
@Maysprout: About 15 things. I probably won't get all of them, but I do need 5 of them for sure and they are the pricier items.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@dookie32: Ive bought a shirt and a sleeper (I have 2 girls and am having a boy) a cap and an elf Christmas hat
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@whiskers: oh nice. I just looked. It said you only need $10 of purchases to get the box, we can easily do that and then they give you a bunch of samples in the welcome box. I think I'll just have to put the registry in dh's name since its his account.
kiwi / 657 posts
@Maysprout: I will say, the welcome box was not that great. It mostly was just a bottle, prenatals, granola bar, travel size johnsons and johnsons shampoo and disposable breast pad packet with a few flyers/coupons for other products.
kiwi / 538 posts
@whiskers: That's a good idea- I'm probably going to get some smaller things like bottles once it gets closer as well. When do you get the completion discount and how much is it?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@jaguar: We tried that but she just can't settle. Poor thing slept until 8:00 this morning (she usually gets up at 6:30). Her cough is much better but her fever keeps coming back, so she's out of school again today. On the bright side, she told me she was hungry this morning, so that's a good sign.

@whiskers: I did this, too. We won't have a shower of any kind (my work will likely do donuts and juice at a team meeting one morning, but that's it for the partying haha) so I registered via Amazon to save a couple bucks on stuff I needed. There are also a couple of people who've asked my mom if we need anything and it's a really practical list for them to choose from if they really want to help.

@dookie32:
Double stroller
Wrap to try as DD hated them
Infant tub
Another camera for monitor
Another glider
Crib
Blankets ( all ours are pink..lol)
Clothes
My mom mentioned wanting to have a small shower when we found out it was a boy, I'm not pushing one I feel bad as we had one 20 months ago...
We shall see!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@dookie32: Oh yeah, @faithfertility reminded me of some other things we need/got: double stroller (got a double jogger, but need an everyday stroller), a bigger car (SUV or van), and a new glider (ours broke). Other than that, I think we are set.
ETA: and a bath sponge (we don't do an infant tub).
apricot / 271 posts
@avivoca: I love how you casually slipped in a new car among those other items, LOL
watermelon / 14467 posts
@thepicklemonster: Yes. I'm normally all for reusing what I have, but dear Lord, that thing is at my inlaw's house, which is a four hour drive one way AND it's been marinating in cigarette smoke since Christmas. I just don't know if it's worth it at this point.
ETA: dude, you said car. HAHA. Yes, we need one, we drive a Versa and it's not big enough for us and our stuff when you add another kid to the mix.
kiwi / 657 posts
@avivoca: I would for sure get a new car seat if the other was in a smokey house - even if it was down the street. I meant to comment on that earlier and forgot. I am hoping my small SUV will last us for another two years, though I'd really love a 3rd row - just not worth the car payment at this point.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@whiskers: I'm thinking that way too, I just need to convince my husband. I really like my seat (and it's Snap-n-go stroller), but I don't want to drive that far or wash it and I don't trust them to package it properly to mail it.

@avivoca: I hope the sleep and some food means she's on the mend!
This weekend I am going back to tackling the spare room.. so much still to clean out before I can actually start assembling and moving around G's old nursery furniture!

@avivoca: Just so you know, your post has now made me do some car shopping. Still on the fence about if now is the right time.

Just had my anatomy scan and everything looked great. I guess I've constantly been waiting for a disaster that I haven't even been able to plan for this baby at all (even brainstorming what new stuff to buy for #2). I guess maybe it's finally time to start letting myself believe this is happening...

Well, friends, a super weird update over here. Because of some crazy transitions + oddly timed vacations + other general cluster-ness at my doctor's office, my OB accidentally slipped up this morning and told me the sex. DH wasn't even there! But, the good news is, SHE'S healthy as can be and looks (and sounds) great. Not how we wanted to find out, but thrilled for DD to have a sister!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mfa_lady: Wow! Congratulations! I'm sorry it was earlier than you wanted, but I'm excited for you.
Also...someone from the November 2013 group was team green, their doctor slipped and told them it was a girl, but it ended up being a boy!

@avivoca: Oh my lord. What an emotional roller coaster! Hahahaha. After hearing that, now I'm just like "Please don't make me go through this shock again."
watermelon / 14467 posts
@whiskers: Good luck! I sent my husband a curated list of cars (trying to keep it to vans and SUV's that we've rented before) and of the list, he told me he likes the Nissan Rogue, the Toyota Sienna, and the Mazda5 Microvan.
This from the man who has refused to consider a van prior to this. Hopefully I'm winning him to the dark side.

@avivoca: Nice, we looked at the Mazda5 2 years ago - but they didn't have enough crash testing done on it so we passed. The rouge was also our #1, but we went with a new commuter car for my husband instead since we were on the upper end of our housing budget. We closed on our house and bought our car on the same day
I am all over the board on what I want. Fitting 3 carseats with 3 under 4 is so tricky.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@whiskers: I'm kind of sad that they stopped making the Mazda5! I also love the Rogue, but I want to be able to take more people than just my family and it only seats five (4 with carseats), plus it has overlapping belts. So we'll see.
